hard drive keeps running

After cleaning the virus on my desktop pc, I installed windows xp service Pack 3. During the installation process, it was a part near the end where he cleanes, it's self. It ran for more than 4 hours but no progress what so ever. I stop and restarted the pc. Now the hard drive is constantly running. Any suggestions short of 'knuking' it and start again?

Thanks in advance.

I found the problem (s). Not enough memory to sp3 and windows issues fixed with discscan. I'll keep sp2 until I get more memory.

Thanks for the replies.

You must specify a linker flag this option in the header of the image of fs9.exe because FS9 is a 32-bit application and use 2 GB of virtual address space.
With the indicator largeaddressaware under your 64 bit OS, it is possible for FS9 to use up to 4 GB of address space.
Get the SBB Explorer (http://ntcore.com/exsuite.php) open fs9.exe, header to open the file then click on 'Click here' and mark "App can handle > 2 GB addresset", save and close fs9.exe.

  • Hard drive is running for 1.5 minutes every 3-4 minutes

Hard drive works very often. Why?

It is very difficult to answer.  It depends a lot on what programs you have running (ones you started and those included in the menu to launch at startup).  Is this something again or he did this for a while, or even since you bought the machine?  Have you installed any hardware of new programs or drivers since it began, or in recent weeks - if so, what?  What antivirus do you use (name and version)?  What programs are you running so that this happening (those you have open)?  Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and get the Autoruns (which is well above msconfig that comes with Vista) and what programs/processes are defined to run at start-up and post here the document.  Right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar at the bottom and click on task manager and then go to the process and to use CPU and click the header to sort by category.  Post here all the processes that are never more than 10% of your CPU (especially when the hard drive turn).

I look forward to your reply with additional information.  We can then try to track down what is causing the hard drive to run as it is.

    Thanks and good luck!

  • disk hard drive keeps filling

I got a new computer a few months back, and lately the hard drive has been fill up very quickly for no reason that I can see. I loaded a few games on and that's it, but it keeps fill in at a pace of about 5-10 GB per week. I tried ccleaner and that had no effect. It's a hard drive 1 TB and up to present its used 350 GB even if when I open the files on the c drive and highlight everything and go into propertys the total amount that I can see in there are about 74 GB.

its an inspiron 3847 running windows 7 pro

  • HP Compaq DC7800: Seagate 1 TB hard drive would run smoothly on my pc?

I use desktop core 2 duo Hp Compaq DC7800 with 2 GB of ram.
Now, I intend to improve 320 GB to 1 TB of hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 7200 RPM ST1000DM003 / MIN 64 MB Cache SATA 6.0 GB/s 3.5).
-It would run smoothly on the system?
-Is a good choice or 512?
-This particular model of hard drive of another company?

    Hello:

It is not the size of the hard drive.  In this model, you can go up to 2 TB.

It is the speed of the drive that may conflict with the dc7800.

Disks SATA 6.0 GB/s can have the problem that is described in the above-mentioned document, which mine had.

If you don't want to take the risk of what happens, you have to get a SATA II (3.0 Gbps) drive, and they can be hard to find these days.

  • External hard drive keeps restarting by itself!

    Hello

I have an iomega RPHD - U 250 GB hard drive plugged into my pc and I keep it this way because I need to work on organizing my files. However, it keeps restarting itself as a minute after that I opened the case, whenever I plug in my charger (has something to do with the charger?) or at random times. It's really annoying and I have no idea why this is happening. How can I solve this problem and how to avoid that this happens in the future?

Ah.  Well that seems to me something of the chain is a failure.  The drive itself, the cable, connector, it is plugged into USB port or something on the motherboard.  I start to exchange of components or entrust it to another computer and see if it happens there.

If not, try another drive on the computer of 'problem' and see if it works.

Both of these can narrow down what is causing the problem. But you can also try a clean boot of the computer too. See How to perform a boot in Windows, allowing to tell if it's a software problem on the computer that is really the cause.

  • Remove computer hard drive virtual running

I'm trying to remove a hard drive from a virtual computer running and get an error... an invalid configuration for device 0. I try to avoid closing it is low as VM it critical missin. Any idea hot to remove this hot disc? The data store is mounting NFS, does make a difference? Execution of vSphere 4.1 and try to do this through vCenter.Thx!

    Hello

Have you tried to remove it all first inside the BONE? I would recommend not disconnected while the VM is running as this can possibly casue undesirable results.

I recommend organizing a maintenance window and close and delete this way

  • Hard drive keeps asking for password

There is probably a no-brainer for her but I can't seem to find it: I have configured previously time machine to encrypt a volume on my mac for backup, but I stopped to use it as a backup volume and want to use it as a normal volume. However whenever I start the iMac hard drive ask me a password. Is there a way to remove it?

    Thank you

Anyone? I don't want to have to reformat the data into car and transfer out and back again... Hope that there is an easy way to remove the password?

  • My external hard drive keeps giving me an i/o error, everytime I try the Explorer.

I have a Maxtor One Touch 200 GB of external hard drive connected via a USB cable from my computer using Windows XP Professional.  It was working fine until one day when I went to go and received an i/o error.  Troubleshooting was no help at all.  I expected to be able to mirror, but could not be sent, because of illegal hacking material. Any other information is not replaceable. Drive external hard does this buzzing feeling when turned on and I can hear the hard drive spining. Does anyone know how to get the info on my C drive.

    PizzaDude272

Connect the drive to another computer. It is accessible? If so, copy the data and then test the drive. If no, then remove the Maxtor case USB and put it in another USB box or use a USB adapter. Now, try and connect. If you can not access the drive, he's dead. If the data is critical, send the drive to a professional data recovery company. It's expensive, but only you can determine the value of your data. I use a Drive Savers for my clients. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • USB ext hard drive keeps stalling, error message, and then re - appears

the maxtor drive is sometimes considered, sometimes not.  This change while the pc is turned on.  I get different errors, not installed correctly, problem with hard drive 2.  I have recently upgraded to windows 7 vista teacher, the problem was the same in vista.

    Hello

To me, this looks like a problem with your maxtor drive.

Were you able to do a health check on it? It works on other computers (if you have others to try)

Try to other usb ports on your computer.

You have a cable extra-long usb, sometimes long usb cables can drop the unit.
If not, maybe it could be a hardware problem with your usb port or the maxtor drive.

    Kind regards

  • will not start up not according to any hard drive test run and it says replace was 1 he did no road noise

Compaq presario cq 70 note book pc does not start test and say no disc replacement hard drive 1

He started toward the top of loadede windows stopped it itself turned off then would not start have to take the battery out to turn it off now

Looks like your hard drive has failed. Remove the hard drive and attach it to your desktop as a 2nd hard drive and see if the bios can recognize the disc and if the disc is rotating.  If the bios does not recognize he or she does not turn, the drive has failed.  If the bios recognizes, he turns, a check disk can restore if you start.

    Hi George,.

You must run CHKDSK with the f switch... Click Start-> Run & Type-> chkdsk c: /f -> ok. Type y to the schedule disk check, reboot your computer. Your computer will be checked to find errors before you get the login prompt.

    I hope this helps.
