Hard drive makes a THUMP on my laptop! Help!

Hello

I've owned my hp envy 17 laptop for almost 2 years now. Recently, my computer makes a noise very loud and it seems that it is working much harder it must be. I suspect the fan or the hard drive is the culprit, but I convinced myself that it's the hard drive.

When I start my computer the noise starts almost immediately after the start. This noise sounds like the computer works hard as he possibly can, almost making a grinding noise. Even though the computer has booted, this noise continues for another minute or two before it stops, then my laptop gets quiet. What intrigues me and leads me to believe that it's the hard drive, are the fact that my computer become excessively hot when the noise occurs; He never used to do that before.

This is not what confuses and annoys me the most, is the sound to reproduce again. This is something that I never heard before. My laptop for some reason, when it is moved or moved, even the slightest, begin to "rev" and the hard drive roared; It does this for about five minutes. It is also when the laptop is closed and "sleep" mode the slightest bump it allows off as a baby. I suspect that there is a switch, Rabat, or a thread which is not fixed correctly and when moved it off the hard drive.

I found a few small solutions to this problem. The main thing I do when the sound occurs is I close the lid of the laptop that puts it in standby mode and turns off the hard disk, it silenced for the moment. This solution, I stumbled on by chance; I turned my laptop on the side when the noise occurs and the sound stops until I put the laptop in a vertical position again (the laptop is open).

I would like to know your opinion on it, a solution you could of met or any explanation of the cause; also explain all costs. Partially, I opened my laptop and it seems in order to me with the dust to a minimum. I would rather check online for a solution first before importing it to a computer repair shop which I'm ready to do as a last resort.

Sincerely,

Greg

Remove the Panel in the shape of T a great service. With the battery down to you, the hard drive on the left is a second HDD for storage only. Follow the instructions. Be careful with the place where the cable connects. Remove the drive (on the left). Leave the main drive on the right. Replace the cover of the service on. Start the laptop and run and see if the noise is gone.

Hello everyone. I have a brand new (3 days) Hp Envy curved 34-A010 A10 PC. I transferred games, etc from my old computer and now the hard drive makes a grinding sound. Anyone know why and what I can do to prevent it? Thank you!!

    Stella, welcome to the forum.

What a great computer!  I'm jealous.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem.  I suggest you to contact the vendor for assistance.  They should fix it without any problem.  If you bought through HP Store, you must contact the HP Customer Service.  You should not have problems with a 3 day old computer.  It will only get worse.

Almost certainly an indication that a disc is a failure and should be
    replaced as soon as POSSIBLE.

    1. open the case and disconnect the power cables of all readers but
C:, then run the computer for awhile. If we click, it is C: this is
    dying.

    2. then plug the power cable into a different drive and run it
computer for a while. If you click on, it's that you reconnected
    who is dying.

  • Tecra A2: HARD drive makes noises funny laptop crash

Today, I turned on my laptop, got into windows, started working when my laptop makes a funny sound, like a noise a little whoosh, n thn froze my pc! I rebooted, but is the same this time on the log of windows on the screen, I kept restarting trying to operate... until he has not start n now it sits right on the toshiba screen before starting.

The HD LED lights up and I'm stuck in the menu. I opened my laptop n watched the hardrive (tho not touched cos I didn't break!) n its not loose or anything... but now I can not get it started, I tried the recovery cd which I can sometimes get into tho it doesn't seem to work!

Please can soemone tell me how to solve this problem, preferabley without send it to Toshiba.

    Hi Paul,.

It seems that if your hard drive has failed. Check in your BIOS during the initial POST to see if the drive is correctly recognized.

You can try to restore the hard disk from the recovery CD (just boot from the recovery CD and follow the prompts on the screen) but this will erase all your personal data and programs that you can have installed and restore your laptop to its State.

If you still have problems then I think you need to replace the hard drive and reinstall your system.

  • Qosmio E10 is slow and HARD drive makes noise constantly

    Hi people

I also have a toshiba qosmio e10 notebook. I had problems with it as well lately.

First it started with a slow start, and then at some point I started having error messeges.
When I called the toshiba Helpline advises him to do a check disk. I did this and the problem is still involved.

Now also the hard drive constantly makes noise, but once the computer was successfully loaded its usually very well, it's just starting. A similar thing experience?
What is the best thing to do?

I'm thinking of replacin the hard drive.
Any help will be appreciated. thanx

    Hello

The check disk (HARD drive) will not solve all problems, but this tool report some errors and problems with the HARD disk.

  • Toshiba 320 GB external HARD drive make my very slow computer

    Hello.

I bought this product a few weeks ago now, and every time I use it, it makes my computer go tp so slow to the point where I can't actually do something on this subject, due to the fact that everything becomes inadmissible. Also, the rate at which I transfer files to it is also very slow. Any ideas why and what I can do to speed things up a bit?

    Thank you.

    Hello

You suggested that the laptop becomes slowly during the use of the external HARD drive.
I guess that transfer you a data from the HARD drive internal to the external USB HDD.
I think that it s not very rare, that the laptop runs slowly during the transmission of the data.
It depands on the program that runs in the context of the operating system.

I put t know which interface you use USB2 or USB only, but data transfer depends on the interface.

Looks like you're not able to boot into the operating system of your laptop

Please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and give you the

  • Editing photos on an external hard drive using two different computers - a laptop computer and a desktop computer

Hi, I have all my photos on an external drive. I want to change my photos on my desktop at home and then to be able to work on my laptop when on mobile. My catalog is stored on my external hard drive. But the changes that I did for the photos on my laptop do not seem to have been recorded on my external hard drive when I watched tonight on lightroom on my desk.

The file that I watched tonight is a native import of original photography don't not presenting the any fixtures that I made earlier today.

Any suggestions on where I'm wrong.

    Hi juliew,

The adjustments you make in Lightroom are stored in the catalog itself. It makes no changes directly with the original files.

For example, you won't find any changes on the original images.

If you are not able to see editing in Lightroom itself, please make sure that you opened the same catalog from the external hard drive on both computers.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hard drive makes a weird cracking / Satellite A500

    Hello

I have a fairly new Toshiba Satellite A500 (2 months) and for about 2 weeks, it is difficult to start making a cracking noise (a kind of click hear you when the player load something)... He had never done before. Many drive hard making the sound of crackling, I know, but what I find strange is that sometimes both...

I did a lot of testing with different software, defragmentation, clean, SMART analysis, space remaining... and everything is OK. I'm really not see the problem.
May be an indication, noise appeared shortly after I installed GTA 4.

I would like to know if you also had this problem, or if you know how to solve. The hard drive still works fine, there is only this new sound that starts to irritate me...

    Thank you

PS: I'm French, I hope that I didn't too many mistakes...
my hard drive is a Toshiba 500 GB mk5055gsx.

    Hi Renan

In front of me, I have Satellite A500-157. I don't know which is HARD drive inside (manufacturer), but HARD DRIVE works alone and without some strange noises.
On this path, it is not easy to say with certainty if the HARD disk is defective, but you can at any time you want the closest contact Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can check the HARD disk and discuss with you what may be the problem.

From my experience, I know when HDD makes some clicking noisy it can be the end of the HARD drive.
Maybe you should back up all your data. ;)
Just to be sure... you know what I mean.

  • hard drive failure and replacement of the laptop pavilion dv6-1000

It seems that the hard drive has failed in the laptop.  When I run a test gives me a message 3f0 and hard drive does not exist.  Tried to start the repair system and the operating system not found.  Would fix with the image of the system.  No found boot device.  Conclusion: new hard drive required.  The laptop drive is a seagate momentus 320 GB 5400,6.    Do I have to replace it with a new seagate or can I use a Western Digital with the same 320 GB, 5400 rpm?  Thank you in advance.

    Hello:

WD should be fine and if you want to use a disc 7 200 RPM faster seek time (at a small cost of battery life between charges) you can go with this too.

  • What is the largest hard drive that will work in dv6324us laptop computer?

What is the largest hard drive that will work in a HP Pavilion dv6324us laptop?

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c01035677.PDF

Support for HARD drives and capacities are listed in Chapter 3, page 3-25.

Personally, I think you could install a SATA II 320 GB to your laptop.  Maybe even a 500 GB.

You could also probably install a drive of 7 200 rpm for better performance or if the battery life between charges is more important for you, then stick with a disk of 5 400 rpm.

If its SATA you need SATA drivers to install. Since the XP CD doesn't have the SATA drivers on it

Unless you disable the AHCI in the BIOS. Or their wake.

Or get the SATA drivers. Check out them on diskette, press F6 during installation and then add them.
