Hard drive or SATA connector?

A few days ago I received the dreaded stop sign on the start screen, fearing that my hard drive has failed Finally I quickly bought a compatible. The next day, my drive hard original was 'work' again, slowly but surely she came back to life. Happened to my new hard drive, I decided it was time for an upgrade anyway. I created a bootable usb key, and with my new hard drive (1 TB of seagate Alpha) connected internally, I was ready to breathe new life into my old mac. As I was formatting the seagate OSX journaled with GUID I kept getting installation errors, and disk errors. After several attempts, I decided to give up. I then connected the seagate through a SATA to a USB (external) and voila! He was able to put in the form of OS X journaled with GUID card (it means the drive is well?). So, I have connected the seagate in-house and represented the boot drive. Everything was successful until the very last moment, where I got the dreaded

"OSX could not be installed on your computer file system check or repair a failure. Quit Setup or restart your computer and try again.

So I tried again and the results were the same.

What continues? Is there a problem with the seagate or is it an internal problem with the connections?

Both are pretty easy to fix the parts are readily available, or it could be something else?

Ask if you need more details, I believe that it is a fairly common problem.

I forgot to take pictures of all the error screens as well

Thank you

Hi Yangw29:

You said that your new work drive connected to your computer through SATA to a USB cable.

Try it will be your old hard drive.

Remove it from the computer and connect it via SATA to a USB cable.

To test if the problem is your hard disk or the SATA cable:

You can remove your Mac hard drive and install in case external OWC external box or by using a USB to SATA adapter SATA USB adapter and connect it to your MBP via USB. And then try to boot from by using the Boot Manager. This will help determine if your hard drive or SATA cable are at fault. If she starts the MBP, will very probably be the problem the SATA cable drive needs to be replaced.

Start from the disc using the Boot Manager: How to choose a disk to boot your Mac.

  • XPS8500 mSATA iii, HARD drive disk SATA port?

I have a XPS8500 Office with 2 SATA iii HARD drive currently as the only player to. I bought a 1 to Samsun Evo 850 to replace the HARD drive (the HARD drive has only about 600 GB used, so it should migrate completely without problem). Ports SATA 4 deep 1 SATA ii and SATA 0 and mSATA ports are the only SATA iii ports, I would move the existing 2 TB HDD in a location empty in the cage with the SSD drive in the location of the SATA 0 port. Ideally I would drive the HARD drive using the port mSATA to keep capacity SATA iii. Is there an adapter that will allow you to it? In other words: an adapter to change the architecture of the port mSATA connector to allow a normal SATA cable connect the port for a SATA drive.

There are adapters to convert a port mSATA on the motherboard in a standard SATA 3 port to a HARD drive. If you google around you can find them, for example this one.

Remember that I do not specifically recommend (or not) this map or this provider. So shop around to find what fits your needs and your budget.

Also, I have no idea how that these adapters are working (or not).

  • Connect a second hard drive to SATA

    Hi all

I have a Dell Inspiron 620, and I try to install a new Seagate 1 TB hard drive...

I'm new to SATA and I need to buy a second SATA data cable, but I don't know what to order. The drive installed by Dell uses a blue cable, but this means that it transfers data to 6 GB per second? SATA data cables are color? Can I use a cable red, blue or black, or my Board does support 6 GB per second transfer rate?

In addition, my hard drives are installed upside down, and that means I need a cable with left angle from what I can tell.

I can post a label service if required (if it is not against the rules of the forum).

    Thank you very much.

    Rusty.07

    SATA cables are not chromocodes.

No, blue does not mean a 6 gb / s, transfer, only Dell promotes the blue color as a symbol.

    Note: The Inspiron 620 is sata2 ports (3.0 GB/s).

Yes, you will need a SATA cable with a 90 * connector at one end. Unfortunately Dell isn't all documentation to install an additional hard drive in the Inspiron available 620

  • Problem with Toshiba Stor.E D10, 1 of 5 TB external HARD drive and eSata connector

    Hello

I have a problem with eSata HARD drive. I have a toshiba Stor.E D10, 1, 5 to external HDD. When I plug it into the connector back eSata, Windows 7 recognize this and I can read it, but when I try to write about it, it freezes and I have to unplug it. When I connect the Toshiba Stor.E D10 with the USB cable, everything works fine. The problem is when I use the eSata connector. I have updated the BIOS to the latest without any improvement. In the BIOS, I tried esata IDE and AHCI controller without success.

My system: Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate, card mother Gygabyte GA-X58A-UD3R(rev. 2.0)

    Any help is happy.
    Thank you

    Javier,

    Hello

Did you check and test the drive external DRIVE with other computers that provide the eSATA interface?
I think that this should be done because theoretically the problem might be related to the laptop s / s computer eSATA port.

  • Copy of the hard drive. Where can I get an "edge" 44 HARD drive to a connector 44 flat plug adapter round pins?

Hello. Anyone know how to copy the contents of a hard drive of 80 GB MK8026GAX Toshiba HDD2191 d ZK01 T to a computer? This record came from a laptop Dell Insipiron PP12L defective 6000. The HARD drive has a 44 pins connector flat male edge. I can't find any adapter that will connect this edge connector 44 flat pins at all normally used 2.5 "or 3.5" round connector pins. I have a new technology USB 3.0 Universal Drive Adapter kit, but it requires 44 pin round connector.

If you know an adapter that can connect edge connector 44 pine flat female to connector 44-pin round, please let me know.

My approach to copy HDD content is incorrect. Maybe you have a suggestion for a way to copy the contents of the HARD drive above?

    Thank you in advance,

    AdamWie

    Hi Osprey4,

Thank you for your response. I found an adapter that transforms the connector 44 flat pins female connector 44 round pins. The only thing to do now is to get 44 male connector 44 round pins round pin connector cable or adapter, but this should be easy. Thank you for helping me to solve my problem of HARD drive.

    Kind regards

  • Update hard drive - PATA, SATA

    Hello

I want to improve my computer hardrive laptop (HP Pavilion 8140US). I think that the existing hard drive is a PATA drive. I want to know if I can improve it with a SATA drive. If yes then that all I have to do. Let me know. Thank you.

You can not. You have to go back to a PATA hard drive.

  • Satellite Pro L870 - 17 X and 2 hard drives

Is it possible to install 2 HDD SATELLITE PRO L870-17 x?

If there is second location of HARD drive with SATA connector, it should be possible.
    Have you checked it already?

  • Second hard drive on Satellite P200

I have a Satellite P200-1IE with a 200 GB hard drive. And the case has "Colocation", another hard drive, but SATA connectors are not here :(
I wonder if it is possible to insert the connector to attach the second HD.

Thanks in advance for the help

    I agree with Joey.
Toshiba designs and provides models of different laptops with different material specifications.
All Satellite P200 mobile phones are equipped with a second HARD-drive Bay, but not all supports the interface and the second HARD disk controller.

It of a bit confusing, but despite a second Bay HARD drive you will not be able to use a second HDD due to a missing on the motherboard disk controller.

  • Windows problem with hard drive changed from IDE to SATA connection.

After a full rebuild (new MB, CPU, graphics and RAM) and install the new copy of Windows 7 Home, everything is great, until I try to connect an additional internal HDD. The boot and then crashes to the windows logo. Additional HARD drive is SATA, but it has already been used on an IDE connection.

The bios recognizes the drive, but obviously, there's some kind of conflict in Windows (I think the reader can contain a backup of the previous generation system).

    System;

    MB ASUS M5A97 R2.0

    CPU AMD FX6

    Gskill 8 GB of RAM.

Any ideas on how to fix the problem please?

    Thanks, Chris

Usually means a player has failed/problematic

You say sata drive but used on a connector IDE does that mean you are using a cable converter, because the type of interface is completely different, or do you just mean the parameter for the connection of the bios?

  • Can Equium L40 - I change hard drive SATA to AHCI Mode?

    Hello

Anyone know if it is possible to change the hard drive to SATA AHCI (or same IDE) mode in the BIOS?

I see the hard drive in the BIOS but I can't select to make changes as long as it is "gray".

I installed the latest version of the BIOS, but that made no difference.
    Thank you very much.

I put t have this model of laptop, but usually the controller SATA in BIOS mode options are AHCI or compatibility.
I presume that it is set to AHCI.

Your laptop's SATA HDD so I put t understand why you want to change anything. Using the AHCI mode HARD drive can operate at full speed.

  • Windows Vista will not complete installation on SATA hard drive

I tried to install Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a new desktop computer Acer X 1200 (less than 1 year).  Vista recognizes the drive, format and copy all the files on the disk installation.  Then restarts, is preparing to launch for the first time and get to the part where it says installation finished and hangs there.  The green progress bar does not move and it hangs indefinitely.  The hard drive is SATA and I put a new disc in hard, but exactly the same thing happened.  The motherboard has no IDE port on it and there is no option in the BIOS for the IDE emulation.  At this point I think the motherboard is bad, but I am working also on a laptop HP 1 year with SATA hard drive that does exactly the same thing.  The two systems are pre-installed with Vista Home Premium.  The two systems see the hard drive, but will not complete installation.  I even tried to run the WD Tools Data Lifeguard before installation with no luck at all.  There is no error message or error code, just of hangs and end no installation.  You have any suggestions for this?  Thank you.

What was my problem I bought the equipment... like motherboard, memory, cpu, and video

Vista would not be install.would blow on the end of the installation so I tried to put it natively and it worked!
