hard showing as CD drive

I am running Windows 7. I have a Western Digital 2 TB hard drive that worked well for two years. The drive will now appear as a CD drive under devices with removable storage, so when I try to access the drive it asks me to insert a cd. The BIOS shows as a hard disk and the disk properties are as follows:

Description of the device = disk
Service = disk
CompatibleIds = Gendisk
Device class = hard disk
any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks in advance
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer these questions:

1. do you think the real CD in Windows Explorer drive?

2. the other USB device GET recognize by the computer successfully?

3 did you do changes on the computer before the show?

I suggest you to assign a drive letter for the external hard drive (Western Digital 2 TB) and see if this fits the Bill.

You must be log on as an administrator to perform these steps.

For instructions, see the article mentioned below:

Change, add, or remove a drive letter

  • All showing them Flash drives like HARD drive in vSAN 6 - Full vSAN Datastore

I built my vSAN6 lab and added the ESXi hosts nested to it.  the drives are displayed as Flash (SSD active and active flash capcacity) but when I add them to the cluster of vSAN and try to create groups of disks appear as disk HARD ordinary (screenshots)

How can I get vSAN to recognize disks like flash (SSD)

Since the beginning of the vsan sofware, we introduced the diskgroup concept

where a diskgroup consists of layers of flash and ability. level Flash was SSD and ability level HARD drive in the case of the hybrid

To prevent that coherent and simpler for all the flash, we have introduced the concept of additional promotion SSD at the level of the ability. but still the initial requirement to have 1 SSD assigned for the flash layer is a must

So what you have to do in your case is

keep 1 SSD for the layer flash without their promotion to the level of ability. You can delete the rule ATAS

use esxcli vsan storage tag to remove the capacityFlash for one of the SSD drive (as shown in the connection of cormac)

    that will fix your configuration

  • How to recover a W7 OS on the new HARD disk USB flash drive?

I have my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop friends. HARD drive have a lot of bad sectors, but it was fun to do:

    • a copy of the image of recovery dell USB flash drive via Dell Backup and Recovery Application
    • a copy of the very important files
    • and a copy of the 2 partitions to each image using Acronis True Image application file:
    1. FAT16 Pri 39, 19 MB FS: FAT16 Partition: 0xde (EISA configuration)
    2. Pri, Act 14.65 GB NTFS RECOVERY

RECOVERY partition have the same content, such as a usb flash drive with I used to do a recovery Dell image.

If she buys a new drive HARD this what should I do/use to recover Windows 7 from a USB?

PS. I have nothing to lose and I try to play with the hard drive has failed.
First of all I do partition of LBA 0 to 80 GB first where bad sectors and hide this partition.
Then I do these partitions 2 "dell" and the rest for system files.
Then I recover these partitions of 2 "dell" using Acronis True Image.
Then I use a usb flash drive to recover Windows 7, it retrieves for maybe 10 seconds and he said that, please restart.
When it shows BOOTMGR is missing, press ctrl + alt + delete and now I see only 2 partitions labeled OS ~ 298 GB and RECOVERY ~ 2 GB.

    The problem is resolved.

The best solution is to use ImageX 2.0 to extract file Factory.wim partition RECOVERY or USB flash drive. Just search on google. New installation of operating system is also an option - I know about it. Fortunately, this Dell factory contains no useless software.

    Thanks for all the help!

  • Satellite Pro C650 - 18 d - can I install any HARD SATA 2.5 drive "?

    The evening

I need to replace a drive HARD defective (250 GB 5400rpms) on my Toshiba Satellite Pro C650 - 18 d. My question is can I buy any make and model of a SATA 2.5 "HDD? A different brand/model would hold in the HARD drive caddy or there should be a Toshiba SATA?

    Thank you

    Hi haverer,

    > can I buy any make and model of a SATA 2.5 "HDD?
Yes, you can buy each HARD drive 2.5 SATA. There is no limitation to a certain brand or size, you can buy a HDD with 500 GB or more. Just make sure that it of a model with 9.5 mm in height, so you can install all models with this height.

    @tizzy, welcome to the forum.

Disc 1 is a lable that tells you what what is supposed to do, for example, the HP TOOLS?  If no, and you are sure there is nothing on what you need, the space will become all just a portion of the free space.

You can go in for this PC file Explorer / right click on the partition and select Properties.  This will tell you what is on it.

    Hello!

The external box is maybe defective, because you said that the HARD drive works in your laptop and the PS3 without problem.
You can test the HARD drive in another external case?

WD test unknown to me but I always use the Drive Fitness Test:
    http://www.HitachiGST.com/HDD/support/download.htm#DFT
With the Drive Fitness Test, you can test your HARD drive. Download the CD image, burn it to a CD and boot from it. You can then the HARD drive.

  • How to partition the HARD on Satellite L300 drive?

I'm crazy little go! I just bought a laptop L300 and I was totally reassured I was able to partition the drive. I have partitioned many readers in my life and know what I'm doing (for the most part)-, but this one - I can send it to the store.

It has a 250 GB hard drive - main drive c, d of smaller volume and 2 hidden volumes. I have 4 other volumes (personal, music, images and desktop). I used the Vista partition utility and it won't let me (it is said that it will create dynamic disks - I want just simple additional disk volumes) and the shop recommended Disk Director

Can someone tell me how to do this - it's a simple operation on all the other computers I bought

    Jennifer

    Hello

If you create the own Toshiba recovery disc then you're definitely on the safe side.
The use of the recovery disk would fix the laptop to the factory setting.
It also means that the HARD drive would be a format too.

The recovery disc formats the HARD whole disc first, erases all partitions, and then creates the partitions and installs the operating system with all the tools and drivers Toshiba.

  • Hard disk for HDD2183 drive?

    Hello

I have a Toshiba hard drive HDD2183 I want to delete the data. The laptop just does more work.

I bought a 2.5 "SATA drive enclosure, but the connectors do not match. Does anyone know of a product that I could use to connect the drive to my regular PC?

    Hello

It s logical that a 2.5 "IDE drive won´t onto a box 2.5" to the SATA drives. I would say, buy a USB enclosure for IDE 2.5 drives ", put the drive in this case, and you will be able to access your data.

    That's all

  • 250 GB drive external HARD asking to format drive

I have a 250 GB external hard drive that I had for a few years.
Recently, one of the folders on it ask format me so therefore I can't access the stuff in it.
There are about 50-60 GB of music in there.

Other files with movies and photos it seems to work ok, I don't really understand

This seems really not good man.
I personally didn t notice of similar questions on the external HARD drive, but who knows maybe the HARD drive contains bad sectors, and so you can access the external HARD disk
Is it possible to run chkdsk on this external HARD drive? If not, I don't see any great chances to access the HARD disk and save data from damage.

  • Intend to upgrade HARD + SSD Macbook Pro drive end 2011

Hope you guys can help me with this simple question (if any):

I plan go my Macbook Pro 13 inch end of 2011 this system of 'double disc' using the current HARD drive and a new SSD. I use OS X El Capitan.
My plan is to take all my important files on the current 500 GB external HARD Drive USB drive and delete EVERYTHING ELSE. There is no problem.

Then I open the computer, remove the HARD drive and the optical drive. I'll replace it with my new MAIN hard drive SSD HARD drive and put the HARD drive in courses where the optical drive was (with an adapter to fit) to be a 'secondary drive' where I store my photos, movies, videos, etc.

When everything is back in place, my question is: if I turn on my MBP with cmd + R pushed down, the normal OS X Utilities screen will appear and I would like to reinstall OS X for this new SSD?

Why not let the operating system installed on the HARD disk, since that will give you a backup of boot problems disk? As long as you clear the Macintosh HD partition and not the HARD whole, the volume of recovery disk should remain intact and usable.
