Harddirve 451 G, bought with only C drive, tried to reduce it, and only 221G narrowed more, why?

I read the help document "Reducing a Basic Volume" on the window that displays the total size before shrink, size available, etc.
It is said in this document we can open this file to see what no movable file blocks here. But I could not open this file! Whenever I have poussin to open this file in the "Tun", a window background black flashed and disappeared!
Can someone tell me what to do? My C is still 229G now, and it took me more than an hour for the regular error checking!

Use Easeus Partition Master 9.0, its free, quick and easy. I used it yesterday evening at a partition configuration for Windows Developer Preview, worked without a hitch.

  • The upgrade of my good old Compaq nx9420 with a hybrid drive (Seagate Momentus XT SSHD) and the RAM system

    Hello

I plan to upgrade my good old notebook with a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive. I wonder if I have to worry about compatibility issues.

AFAIK, the original HDD in my nx9420 is a SATA 1.5 Gb/s drive, a SATA 3 drive works too, but on a lower transfer rates, I'm right?

Another issue is on the RAM. I know that the 9420 can handle up to 4 GB of RAM to 667 Mhz. I wonder if the nx9420 can handle a 4 GB DDR2 module in a slot, or what I need to 'split' and to use 2 x 2 GB modules?

    Thank you!

    (Sorry for my English)

Seagate hybrid drive works perfectly. You are right, it will be limited to speed SATA 1.5 but it makes little difference in the daily operation. It is limited to the size of the single module memory 2 GB.

  • It's a complete hard drive after reinstalling XP Home and all updates are done, why?

Do a XP Home reinstall on a desktop HP clocked at 1.6 ghz with 1 GB of ram and a 10 GB hard drive (about 9.8 GB usable after format). Booted from the disc, has made a full format of the hard drive, responsible for XP home without any problems, registered with Microsoft online, loaded all updates including SP3. Now, the system shows only about 170 MB of hard disk space. Is it possible that XP Home with updates can use much more space or can I have another problem? I thought that she should only use about 1.5 GB?

I could indeed take up that much space. But, you have a more serious problem. Your drive is too small... you have lucky, Windows is still stable. Where to install your programs?

  • After worsening in the last month that I finally drop with Firefox - 2 hours trying to get today and still not satisfactory - what happens?

It is impossible for me to put in operation these days and get an instant response. The faster this last month has been an hour - after will disappear and return at intervals. It seems to go better after 08:00 but that it no good for one early don't like me - I should be able to connect at any time, but I can't. As I'm not technically mind I pay someone to come and fix this - and they seem to do it but then it would be when they visit later in the day - but as soon as they are out of the door he's back. I was recommended to use Firefox as it is no longer compatible for my use and served for three years, but now I'm going back to what I've already used on the need, of despair and frustration. Shockwave flash may be busy... plugins does not respond. I am happy to see the back of all this, but such a shame really.

You seem to be using a very old Firefox profile folder.

For example, your system details list shows security.enable_ssl2: True and SSL2 did not had been in charge for a while now (Firefox 8 +), so it might be a good reason (opportunity) to start with a fresh profile, through a refresh or through the Profile Manager.

Reset is not too difficult and requires to open help > troubleshooting information page.
This page has a reset button to reset Firefox and create a new profile.

Another possibility is to hold down the SHIFT key pressed when Firefox starts with a double click on the shortcut on the desktop.

This gives the Safe Boot Mode dialog box that also has a button Reset Firefox.

When you reset Firefox and a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, data form) are automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved on the desktop to a folder "Old data Firefox".

Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, Pref.) that you have made are lost and must be redone.

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be always careful not to copy the files corrupted to avoid transporting on the problem.

  • I just bought a refurbished with Windows 7 computer. I did a test drive of Works 9.0, and lacked features that I found.

I just bought a refurbished with Windows 7 computer.  On my old XP computer, I used to use Word 97 and later also used a version of works that might have been 2004 (?).  (Usually I only used word processing and Excel.)

I took a test drive of Works 9.0, and found features that I liked were missing, specifically:

    • Previously with Word I could draw snazzy borders on the table cells, which some had graduated shading that looked almost like a real 3-d picture frame.  These borders changed to something else (rather ugly) when I took an old Word 97 and load in Works 9.0 word processing document.
    • With a table created in Word 97, it was easy to summarize a bunch of numbers that were all stacked in a column (or do other types of math).  Could not do with the Works 9.0 word processor.

(These features were absent from Open Office as well, or at best have been tedious to use.)

Word usually has features more and better than the works (such as those mentioned above)?

Any suggestions on what I should use for word processing? Should not be the latest version, but should be compatible with Windows 7.

Office 2007 and later nothing will work on Windows 7 but do not expect the full set of features in Office 97. Office 2007 and beyond have their own sets of complete functionality... :-)

The problem is the purchase of older versions of Office. Microsoft does not provide them and you won't get one of them cheap.

Corel has always produced WordPerfect... http://www.WordPerfect.com/us/product/Office-suite/?sso_test=true

You say that you have started from the XP CD, but something is wrong with that
you do. Just boot from the CD and follow the prompts for a
clean install. A new installation by formatting the

  • Boots system to black screen with only the mouse pointer, ChkDsk finds the same mistakes every time, but does not drive.

My system has the latest updates installed, but it has not restarted when a power failure occurred.  System ran file check at startup and started to only black screen with the mouse.  Sticky Keys dialog box and file sharing is just what works.  System Restore find restore points, but fails with errors.  System repair find anything wrong.  ChkDsk /f and / r always produce the same result with about 30 files deleted from the index, and then these same files recovered orphans.

I cloned the drive to another and get the same results.

All modes of security also start to black screen.  CTRL-ALT-DELETE, CTRL-SHIFT-ESC, WIN-E, etc.  do not work.  Only 5xSHIFT brings a dialog of the keys sticky.

Via a command prompt I can read and write files & folders on the boot partition as if nothing is wrong.  Same thing with shared files on the network.

I asked about this on the forum to update and have no solutions.  Could someone please help?

    Thanks in advance.

    BestPartyBand,
I'm sorry to hear that none of the solutions that we offered was able to solve your problem.  I know how very it can be frustrating to have to start all over again with a clean system, especially with the amount of work you have put in get your network configuration.  I have not found anything that could solve your problem without reformatting, unfortunately.  I didn't want to point to one of the articles I sent you a link to (when you start a Windows Vista-based computer, the system may stop responding (hang) at a black screen.)
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/946532 this article talks about the corruption of system files in the $Txf directory. This corruption causes a situation of deadlock between the Transactional NTFS (TxF) and the automatic verification process.  I think that is what has happened on your drive hard when the crash occurred.  Here is a good article about this in detail that you might find interesting technically: transactional Ntfs and loss of data

  • USB works only with different HARD drive...

Both are Acer Aspire laptops. We have AMD, another, intel. AMD, one died, leaving behind my harddrive perfectly well with all my stuff on this subject. The intel we get my hard drive (from AMD). This works. Only problem: USB ports do not work. Not at all. If I look in Device Manager... There is a label of warning exclaimation on my video display (error code 12. Yet there are a lot of free resources)... and a crapload of all listed Universal Serial Bus ports, with this warning symbol but error code 37. I've exhausted all options on how to 'fix' my problem... but a little problem... I have not met my problem as a whole. Everyone elses problems comes from everywhere to connect to a device USB so he can stop working until an update of windows did. There should be no problem, but it is a. Oh yes, windows 7 x 64 is the operating system. I downloaded and installed all the drivers Acer, except amd... hmm... looking up for this portable body and mind (hdd) that he is supposed to have... idea k. In the meantime, someone knows what to do?

My old acer aspire has a 5538 (AMD)... new is a 5734z (intel).
    both win7 x 64 OS.
Other than the display device supposed to do not have enough resources,
and the multitude of usb drivers failed (there are only 2 ports usb, btw),
and the former stop cash, while this one is black... they are the same. Same amount of GB, operating system, bios, you name it.
Guess I'll go back to acer.com and download drivers for the old laptop, see if windows will then expose to correct things.
It's a good time to go to College and be stuck with buying what they have on campus, huh? Yes, the USB ports are quite necessary for...
Thank you all for taking the time to listen. Surely someone who reads this has such an experience?

    Hello

    Your post is confusing.

You trying to start in and use the hard disk and the operating system out of the device in a more recent machine broken?

If so, you cannot legally install and boot into hard drives and their operating systems that have been transferred to another machine, unless you are licensed by the retail, which would require a reinstall anyway for the reasons listed below in my response.

The two Acers have preinstalled OEM licenses of operating system on them and these licenses are tied to the original machine and are not transferable.

    .

And the hard drive that came out the breakage of the machine has drivers for the motherboard, etc of the broken machine, not the newer machine.

So you will be naturally enough have problems of recognition of hardware, including USB controllers, etc.

And don't you can't change drivers in the old hard drive and the old operating system.

I suggest that you save your data from the old hard drive and then use it to store data in the newer machine.

    See you soon.

The person who took my hard drive works perfectly on my old laptop and put it in my new body of laptop is a licensed computer technology. He thought that it should not be a problem even if the chip inside the new case was a pentium from intel.

He installed all the drivers for the new motherboard laptop on my hard drive. But, the 'graphics card' intel (R) 4 series express chipset family had an error code 12 'lack of resources to operate this view"in Device Manager. And my USB ports do not work, gives error 37 and not all record as that of operation. So I could not use my USB stick for school work done. I got in touch with him. He took my hard drive out and placed a hard drive for acer with processor intel pentium. If it was not so urgent for me to need my computer... I would expect it 3.5 more weeks for an amd processor chipset 'inside' body (case of the motherboard).

So... now my 'problem' is 'solved' regarding my question went.

Yes. Find LR catalog file in Edit/settings/general catalogue. Close LR and go to this place. The catalog file is one that ends by .lrcat - move it where you want. Beside the .lrcat file is a subfolder called Previews.lrdata. You can move, but if you don't not LR will generate new insights. Double-click the .lrcat file in her new home and LR will open with this catalogue. Set preferences in more recent catalogue.
