Hardware recommendations for make closed?

Hello

What would you recommend for a small firm rendering for mixed AE projects (for most HD content, with only a few seconds and the layers and the biggest short-projects with multiple layers of HD and up to 15 min or more)

is it better to have more hearts (servers AMD opteron with 48 cores for example) or of performance more by heart but less cores (Intel Xeon servers)?

And how much memory would be optimal?

What can you recommend for the network connection to share stored, how fast it will be?

I like the analogy of evil better than mine. A cow of price vs 20 ordinary cows. The imagery is very clear. In a production environment, where volume counts, more is better then a single top notch one. A single cow can produce so much mik per day, no matter how extraordinary it is.  But 20 can theoretically produce 20 times more (in practice, perhaps from 17 to 18). Quantity, not quality. I'm not saying that you should get shitty material. All good material, not high-performance ones.

As you know, it's not because you buy a computer that costs twice as much, you will get twice the processing power. First of all, forget the dual CPU computers for a render farm, it's not worth. Get a quad core regular. You compare the price vs performance (make a graph), download the CPU which gives you the best bang for the book (just before the curve of Monte price).

Personally, I think 32 GB is overkill in a rendering farm environment. 16GB is more then enough. Remember that you do not have a RAM Preview closes (if such a thing exists), but rather, to split the process of rendering on different computers. 16 GB is good, 2GB is not. But 8 GB can be a good compromise. Remember, you are trying to lower the cost of a computer, you can buy many computers. But the RAM is cheap, so the best bang for the buck, 16GB may be possible. Here again, it depends on other global factors to reduce the price of the computer.

The speed of the network. Yes, you could get 10GB network adapters and a 10GB switch. But who can drive the price considerably. If you can get a good price, great. If this isn't the case, stick to 1 GB. Get a motherboard with 2 x 1 GB NIC onboard, so you can aggregate the network connections for 2GB. You can optionally add a 1 GB PCIe card four on the road. The computer that has the assets of the project must have a fellow quad (or several) card NIC inside. You want to be able to push the media as quickly as possible to the render farm.

Other things to consider... or rather, no. Graphics card is a problem not on a farm. AE is all about CPU. Some mobos come with embedded graphics. Usually, it is cheaper and consumes less energy. You also want to drive down energy costs when you multiply by X number of computers. Just get a KVM solution that will be able to handle X computers. You don't need a RAID on render farm computers. Going to a normal hard disk. I would go even with a green disc that uses less energy.

And according to the number of computers you have, to reduce the footprint, you can get half-height rackmount boxes and put them in a rack.  Also, consider to put in his own room, because it's going to be very noisy!

  • What is the recommended for El Capitan recovery process?

What is the recommended for El Capitan recovery process?

I just upgraded directly from Mountain Lion, and I see that my recovery disc has disappeared.  My recovery disk wizard is only good for Lion and Mountain Lion.  I searched Apple.com and found a complicated process by which I could use the Console and create a bootdisk with the option reinstall, but I can't believe that this is the recommended option for a common user?

So is time machine bygones?  I noticed that it is dimmed in the Menu bar?

Certainly, you can restore El Capitan as you would with any other version of OS X - using the HD Recovery. I have no idea why your Recovery HD disappeared. Usually this would cause by user error. However, you can create a standalone install OS X on a USB FlashDrive for emergency use. This has been an option because at least Mavericks:

Do your own installation of El Capitan using the El Capitan tool flash drive:

You can create an installer of flash of El Capitan via the Terminal drive. El Capitan has its own manufacturer Installer integrated that you use via the Terminal:

You'll need a freshly partitioned and formatted at least 8GBs. USB flash drive leave the name of the flash drive on the system by default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Wait as the full process that will take some time.

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy and paste the following line in its entirety in the Terminal window.

    sudo/Applications/Install\ OS\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia--volume/Volumes/Untitled--applicationpath X\ "/ Applications/install OS X El Capitan.app.

Press RETURN, enter the admin password (will not resonate to the window) then press RETURN again.

You must have setup in your Applications folder or change the paths in the command line above.

You can do the same thing for Yosemite by making the appropriate substitute for the installer in the above command line:

Make your own Yosemite flash Installer drive using the tool of Yosemite:

You can create an installer of the Yosemite via the Terminal flash drive. Yosemite has its own manufacturer Installer integrated that you use via the Terminal:

You'll need a freshly partitioned and formatted at least 8GBs. USB flash drive leave the name of the flash drive on the system by default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Wait as the full process that will take some time.

Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy and paste the following line in its entirety in the Terminal window.

    sudo/Applications/Install\ OS\ Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia--volume/Volumes/Untitled--applicationpath/Applications/Install\ OS\ Yosemite.app X\ X\

Press RETURN, enter the admin password (will not resonate to the window) then press RETURN again.

You must have setup in your Applications folder or change the paths in the command line above.

In addition, to Yosemite and earlier you can try using DiskMaker X.

  • Digital electronics FPGA Board Hardware Driver for Windows 10

My son just made me aware that his school has a dozen of National Instruments Digital Electronics FPGA boards, but they have never been able to get them to work or actually use them in the curriculum. It seems that he has left his instructor know that I worked with FPGA Xilinx for more than 10 years and now everyone counting on me to get these maps work. The issue seems to be the USB driver. According to the manual, I tried DEFB2012_5_2.exe which simply refused to run on this machine Win 10 x 64. DEFB_4_3.exe ran, but complained that LabView components have not been installed and that it would not continue. Could someone tell me please how to install USB driver ONLY so that we can download files of bits with IMPACT? In terms of a school budget, the investment they have in these maps is not negligible. Thank you.

    Hello Dave and TGregor,

I hope I can clear some things here. I'm sorry that you run in so many questions with your boards OF FPGA.

    First of all, direct responses:

The LabVIEW FPGA 2015 driver should install the components needed to use the Board with Xilinx tools on WINDOWS 7, it will not work on any system more recent that the pilot has been developed before the release of Windows 8 and 10.

    http://www.NI.com/download/NI-Digital-Electronics-FPGA-Board-driver-software-2015/5857/en/

My recommendation for Windows 8 or 10 is rather install Xilinx ISE you find on Xilinx website or on the downloads page OR:

    https://www.Xilinx.com/products/design-tools/ISE-design-suite.html

    http://www.NI.com/download/LabVIEW-FPGA-Module-2016/6231/en/

The difficulty that you face here is that tool Xilinx ISE is officially supported only on Windows 7 and below. So even though I think it will work (and it will move to the difference in the link of the above driver OF FPGA) for Windows 8 and 10, you can continue to deal with certain issues.

Now you are all looking to program the FPGA using an HDL, Multisim and LabVIEW? If you just use an HDL, you should be all set to go and in the dev environment, you had planned using the program. Circuit design of Multisim 'S simulation tool which includes a complete library of graphic digital components. A digital circuit can be built using the graphical logic gates in Multisim then downloaded directly on the FPGA without first having to learn VHDL or Verilog. It is quite popular among the logical classes digital introduction and we can help you by establishes that as well if you are interested.

For anyone else who might stumble upon this page, I want to make sure you are all aware that, while the Board of Directors OF FPGA is still supported and sold, it has been developed a number of years and has recently been replaced by the Council for development of the digital system (DSDB)that uses a 7020 architecting and has much periphrials more to the program than the FPGA OF. So I know that it is not useful for the current issue, but anyone looking for if they would like to buy more OF FPGA boards, I recommend watching the DSDB instead.

    Thank you!

  • Optimal hardware recommendations

Time for me to upgrade my laptop. I see the minimum hardware requirements, but if the main use of my new laptop will run Photoshop CS6 (and perhaps CC), what are the recommendations for a really good laptop (CPU processor, graphics processor, HD, RAM, etc.), not only the minimum?  I know that maybe it's not a particular brand laptop & model, but some tips on what is worth paying for, and what is beyond what Photoshop use anyway.  There may be a white paper of compiling recommendations out there?

  • Recommendation for installation of small business

I have a small remote site that is running two physical servers.  No server is too active and both were installed in 2002 and need to be retired.  I'll migrate physical servers and put them on VMware.  I think it makes sense to have two servers low range and replcation backward them.  I'm looking for recommendations for setting this up as economically as possible.

On another similar site, here's what I did: have two servers, both with a quad core processor each and both with

internal readers 10 SATA RAID. Both running ESX 3.5 Foundation. I have

Veeam Backup and replication to replicate back between the

two servers. That is, four total VM = will execute two on each server and

replicate back. If a server fails, the other server will be

Run all four VMs.  I did all of this for about $9 k.

Is there another approach in this ball park which makes more sense?  Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hello

I set up an office in a box and use one of the tools of Veeam backup, vRanger connection, PhD virtual and remote to the local office backup desktop every night. This way if there is a problem all that send you them is a new box with all their data restored. Or restore you it if necessary. For only 2 virtual machines, replication between two hosts at the remote office looks like a bit more to kill.

If the host dies you have them replicated to the local office and people can use a VPN to access the data in an emergency. 1 host with a NAS for local backup also sounds pretty good.

It's more a problem of backup/DR/business continuity and you can watch from the perspective of these tools.
