HD upgrade: Inspiron 9300 w/SATA?

I have an Inspiron 9300 with a SATA drive (I think). I understand that other 9300's often have an EIDE drive and the BIOS limited HD size to 100 GB or 120 GB. I'm not sure that fully understand if the limit applies to these systems that have the SATA drives as well, or if there is a limit to these bodies. I'm a little fuzzy on the question if the system fully supports a SATA too. Consider the screenshot below of HD Tune... It seems to reference both 1 SATA and ATA-100. (I thought ATA-100 EIDE)

Thanks for your help to clear up my confusion. I would switch to 250 GB or more.

  • The upgrade of Inspiron 9300 Hard Drive not recognized

I bought an upgrade of my Inspiron 9300 laptop hard drive:

Old hard drive: TG754 Hard Drive, 60G, 9.5 MM, 7.2 K Hitachi, Moraga, unleaded

New hard drive: 250 GB SATA 3 Gb s hard drive 16 MB 7200 RPM 2.5 IN. w o free fall Scorpio black

    TG754 Hard drive, 60G, 9.5 MM, Hitachi 7.2 K, Moraga, unleaded

I don't know I installed it correct (just slide in and screw it) but my problem is that my laptop does not recognize the new drive.  When starting it complains that no hard drive is, and when I boot my Windows XP it also said that no hard drive is located.

I followed the upgrade recommended Dell so I do not know why it does not work.  I read that the SATA drives require additional drivers, but I'm sure that my old drive was already a SATA drive, so I don't understand why he is not recognized.

    Help, please.  Thank you.

The 9300 has been performed in two versions - the vast majority were EIDE.  The last execution of production used SATA.  Yours is EIDE.

Readers are physically the same size and made the same carrier - but does not connect the SATA version to the motherboard (check the back both discs and you'll see why).

The EIDE version has a limit of 120G BIOS - it means not that you can not use this drive of 160 G, but the results can be unpredictable, sudden loss of all data.  Keep backups if you try a 160 - it is much safer to use a 120G.

No, a 5400 all else equal will be slower than a 7200 - but you don't have a choice, because all manufacturers have stopped making 7200 RPM EIDE (PATA) computer laptop some time ago.

  • upgrade to Windows 7 on a dell inspiron 9300 with windows xp

I have a dell inspiron 9300 and I just upgraded from windows xp to windows 7 Ultimate edition 32 bit. I can't install the drivers of my resource cd.

Win 7 will automatically detect the NETWORK card drivers but not the drivers for the wifi card. The easiest way is to connect the network cable to your computer and run windows update. This will update your display drivers (I have geforce go6800 and it worked) and the drivers for your wireless card. So now you have a proper and internet wireless display. Now, you can go to the dell website and download the drivers for sound card for i9300 (xp version). Run the drivers in compatibility mode for win xp and you have sound on your computer.

  • Sony DVD on Inspiron 9300

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 9300 running Windows XP Media. The laptop no longer recognizes the CD. It's in the Manager for devices with an exclamation point. The error indicates that the driver is missing or damaged. I went on the Dell driver download site and downloaded the driver/firmware for it (R104295), but which has NOT corrected the situation. It's a Sony DVD +-RW DW - D56A drive. Anyone can shed light on how to get it running again? Thank you!

  • Change the hard drive of my Inspiron 9300

    Hello!

This is my first post on this forum.

    Since July 2005, I have a Dell Inspiron 9300.

As it is now out of warranty, I would change the hard drive in it.

So I have a few questions, I'm looking for answers to if possible.

I will present my questions in two different parts, the first is on the material, the disc itself and then the software thing.

    (A) material:

    (1) should what equipment I expect? I know it's a hard disk IDE, so I guess I have to get the same kind, in parallel ATA works?

    (2) I read here and there that the BIOS is limited to hard drives 120 GB, because more is not supported by the latter. You know a way to expand this capacity? (Only a medium chest!)

    (3) what kind of drives advise you? (Brand, speed, etc...)

    (4) I read on description hard drive 'IDE ATA 100' or ' IDE ATA 133 "in online shops, you know what it is?

    (B) software:

    (1) I would like to be sure that I will install the same things as when I do "Ctrl + F11", for the utility norton Ghost (want to keep this option!), which reinstall the entire computer with factory settings. I will get this during the installation with the recovery CD? Or you have a way to get this? (I want the same computer I have today, except a different HDD only!)

    (2) do you know how to create a D: partition, so that I have a part for programs and a part for the storage of the files?

    (3) how to install, is it: replace drive HARD; start the computer while starting on the recovery CD, Partition the disk HARD C: and D: (with the D: partitioned within the C: drive, I guess) and complete the installation of windows with the included Dell factory settings?

I hope that I won't bore you with my questions, and you'll be able to answer. It would be nice, because I'm not a pro from the computer, only an amateur.

    Thank you very much

    Vincent

  • 7200 RPM HD available for Inspiron 9300?

Bought an Inspiron 9300 @ the end of December 2005.  A year ago the 80 GB 5400 RPM HD starts giving errors failed constantly.  Tried to watch a disc that spins at 7200 RPM to replace, but the support.dell.com site is pretty vague.

Ive found a 100 GB disk at 5400 RPM which is a replacement for $135 - see the Scorpion 160GBfor $99, but do not know which will take place in this laptop.

so my dilemma: pay more for the 100 GB disk that has been "recommended" by the search engine, try the Scorpion and hope, it fits, or find a 7200 RPM drive on another place and try that.

    any tips?

    Thank you

  • Inspiron 9300 screen turns off after the Windows Logo screen

Inspiron 9300 my wife became severely infected.  I thought I had some weird things start popping up of the problem decided to wipe the hard drive and start over.  Unfortunately, I don't have to restore disks when I bought the computer.  I install windows xp pro service pack 2 full retail version.

Installation was not a problem until I installed the driver ATI Mobility x 300.  I followed directions for installation from the website, do the installation of xp followed of the dell system software update followed of chipset followed video driver.  After that whenever I put on, the screen turns off after the Windows Logo.  The computer is still running and if I plug an external monitor everythng is fine.

I tried all the troubleshooting tips I've seen in this forum.  I did a full install twice. made of safety boots (all right), started in VGA mode (works fine), I ran diagnostics from fn on startup, including express, extended and video tests and they pass all the controls.  I'm sure it's a software problem, but have been unable to solve.  I've updated the ATI bios although when I run it says already installed and done one installs x 300 driver on 6 ttimes own.

I know it must be something simple that I'm missing. My system is the Inspiron 9300 with 2 GB of ram and the mobility x 300 card.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • PC desktop Inspiron 535 s - SATA Slots

I had a question on the number of slots available on the Inspiron 535 s SATA

I opened the case yesterday to try to add a new disk HARD SATA from Toshiba. Then I realized that the motherboard has 4 numbered slots from 0 to 3. The SATA adapter is only 2 slots (0 and 1). A credit card on affecting the older HARD drive 0 adapter black on 1 which goes to the DVD player.

The numbering is a little weird that it is ranked 0,2,1,3 on the motherboard

There is a power cable spare hung under the HARD drive power cable.

So essentially, it left me behind.

    (a) I have to go and get the pins of connector SATA enabled on 0 and 2 on the motherboard

    (b) or change the HARD disk, put in the most recent HARD disk and reinstall the top OS. That would leave the old drive of 300 GB unused.

I am inclined to (b) just so that I can recover the investment on the new Toshiba 1 TB drive

Someone has better thoughts on the situation?

    Rgds,

    Sridhar

Gee, looks like faulty moltherrboard for me...  I had let someone solder on the motherboard.

  • Satellite Pro L830 - 11G - upgrade to SSD, 2 SATA or SATA 3 connector?

    Hi all

I recently bought a L830 - 11G, I would like to upgrade the SSD HARD, I can not find anywhere if this laptop is SATA 2 (3 Gb/s) or SATA 3 (6 Gb/s).

The information is not in the online form.

Can someone tell me what version it is?

    Hello

I think that its SATA II (3Gbs)
But if you know to check it out, I recommend you to install the software of SiSoft Sandra lite to get all the details of the hardware on your laptop.

  • The upgrade of the internal SATA HARD drive for HP Pavilion dm4

    Hello

I have the HP dm4 - 1150 bought ea I think in December 2004.  It has intel core i5 and 500 GB of HARD drive.

It works very well.  I ben hae wanting to upgrade the HARD disk but hard drives SATA 2.5 inches for this ability were not available.

drives internal SATA 2.5-inch 2 TB for laptops are now available.  The OEM version seems to be available for about £80 in the United Kingdom.  Has anyone successfully updated your laptop HARD drive?  Does anyone know if I buy and install the new 2 TB SATA HDD if it works.  If not why?

Would appreciate a response from anyone who has tried this on dm4 or similar computers HP laptop

    Thank you

If it's the original drive it is SATA-II as SATA-III was not then invented. Confirmed here:

    http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/Eng/2879-701275.PDF

You can replace it with a SATA-III disc without any problems. They are perfectly backwards compatible. Your motherboard is a SATA-II at best and could even be SATA - I have but I do not.

I avoid the biggest current disks because drive manufacturers must invent new technological tricks to squeeze more and more zeros and ones in the same size box and it takes time to work on the kinks. Right now, 1 TB is the sweet spot for the readers of the laptop and 2 TB or 3 for desktop drives. Stay with a 1 TB drive 7200 rpm or still a hybrid drive of 1 TB would not a bit of extra money.

  • Hard drive upgrade from IDE to SATA for Precision 360

    Hi all

I need help.  I have a Dell Precision 360 with two hard 40 GB IDE disks.  I would like to move to a WD Caviar 640 GB hard drive and throw the other two.  The WD hard drive is a SATA connection.  I'm sure I need to purchase a controller card, but I don't know what kind to get.

I've read other messages concerning an upper limit of 137 GB, but I think that referred to as prior to Windows XP Sp2.  I also read that do not mix disks hard IDE and SATA hard drives, DVD IDE burners mix with SATA drives?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated for this kind of upgrade.
