Hello SRP527W and multicast

Hello

We have recently installed a SRP527W on our House (and [10 computers - 6 of which are Apple] Home Office) network and have updated to the latest firmware:

Model: SRP527W, ADSL2 + annexed, 802.11n ETSI, 2FXS/1FXO
Version ID: V01
Hardware version: 4.0.0
Version of boot: 1.1.17 (January 4, 2010 - 21:15:46)
Firmware version: 1.01.11 (004) June 22, 2010

It seems that we are now (there was no problem with the Siemens router we used previously) problems with a Hello related applications (Please note I guess that I am not mistaken, that the symptoms point to a problem with Hello, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong):

  • Hi printers are not detected (Apple OSX Server running Hello print server).
  • Remote iTunes on iPhone is slow to find iTunes servers (two {mini mac} media centers we have running), and that is if he can find them at all - sometimes it is there, saying looking for the just library and does nothing;
  • Remote speakers connected through several different Airport express (AirTunes / AirPlay) speakers stall Dungeon and having failed to reconnect - they then, of course, disappear from the iTunes GUI as well as the Remote GUI iTunes on the iPhone.

Installation program:

  • Mac OS x server with Hello Print Server running (among other services) - connected by ethernet to RPS
  • 12 wireless clients are all on the same SSID - x 6 Mac incl. 2 x machines mac mini media center, 3 units express airport with remote speakers connected, others are PCs.
  • V.2 IGMP enabled with proxy and leave immediately activated.
  • InterVLAN routing active
  • RIP disabled

Yet I found no solution to the problem of the printer.

Regarding speakers and remote control go, the wireless (Airport) bicycle off the coast and back to on, appears to allow iTunes to discover (Discover) Airport Express intervene again and a remote application on iPhones to iTunes on computer media that comes with having the airport turned off center and turn it back on.

Problem is that this happens every hour or so... and it became boring. I have read many other forums where people have similar problems, but it seems always to come to a multicast broadcast... that is the problem - how to set up the RPS for Hello mulitcast?

I note Andrew Hickman precise in another previous discussion on the SRP527W series, that Hello was not substantiated - that was back in June of this year (2010). He also said that he was on the road map for a future version of the firmware SRP5XX (the version of the firmware in this discussion was 1.01.01 (006) January 22, 2010, that we are now up to 1.01.11...can, I guess that Hello is now supported?)

My questions:

1 are still Hello and multicast supported?

(a) if so, do, he needed to set it up for Hello?
AA) from my reading, I think I am experiencing is due to a problem with the way which multicast is managed on the routers of PRS... is that correct?

(b) if there is not yet any load Hello, when will it support? Networking features of Apple products depend so much on Hello, and there are SO many Apple devices, this problem seems crazy!

Everything / all help is very appreciated! If you want additional information about the Setup program, please let me know... I just want to make this work I've been hitting my head on a brick wall for the last 4/5 days... reading the forums, try everything... with no luck yet.

See you soon,.

Vaughn.

  • Death in unicast and multicast mode detection algorithm

    Hello

    Today, I tried to check - how does detection of death in multicast and unicast. To my understanding - that, in two modes, consistency has following algorithm:

    1. All members in unicast cluster heartbeat messages send with 2 other members, using the TCP connection via the port UDP cluster.
    2. Senior member (senior for that service?) send heartbeat broadcast messages.

    In both modes (Unicast and Multicast) - consistency is using TcpRing mode, am I right?

    My questions are:

    1. How each Member of the cluster detects - so that others of 2 nodes, it must send the message of heartbeat?
    2. If the node 1 is down - how nodes, which sent the message drive to this node change heartbeat for message impulse unicast address? And how long will it take?
    3. If the node that declined-joins the cluster - node will send heartbeat messages to this node and works with her consistency?
    4. How can I see in the newspapers, the heart beats (I changed the level of logging at 9, but it does not show the heartbeat messages)?
    5. What is a full role of the upper limb in multicast (perhaps new members connect to the upper limbs, and then it sends the notification to all members via broadcast/multicast or something else?)? And what is the difference between the WKA and senior member unicast? What is a member additional features WKA performs?

    Thank you!

    There is only one difference between unicast and multicast dead detection variants so we will cover only the first.  In a multicast are grouped the cluster senior (member of the cluster of longer life) emits a blink of an eye a multicast times per second.  That heartbeat contains the IDS of all the cluster members.  A non-superieur member receives the multicast heartbeat if heart rate is its main known, and does not contain the Member of reception in all of the known members of the recipient will deduct that it was for a reason any declared as dead and so now does not not to be part of the cluster.  At this point, the receiving Member stops his grouping and wait for an external stimulus to try to join the cluster.  This stimulus would be basically any user code that attempted to use a cluster resource.  Note that this is not exactly detection of death, but rather of detection that you have been declared dead.  In a cluster of unicast only the realization even happen by non primary member by train to learn that other members refuse to ack, any of her communications.  It should be noted that in both cases, we take on a undead member of learning that he was falsely declared dead and this is an extremely rare event.

    Next move common aspects of the detection of death which are used by multicast and unicast based clusters.  All other forms use only unicast i.e. point to point networks.  In fact, we have three separate death detection mechanisms:

    The first is TcpRing, which monitors deaths in the form of suspension of processing of other members.  Basically, we create a 'ring' of TCP connections which includes all members of the cluster, for example 3-> 2-> 1-> 3.  On the side of the destination of the connection will never close the connection, so the side origin knows that if the connection is closed, it means that the Remote OS kernel has detected that the process is dead and this nucleus has cleaned the connection and to inform the other side that it is closed.  This form of detection of death is deterministic, that there is essentially no such thing as a false positive, and that if the connection is detected as closed the remote member must be dead.  One of the advantages of this is that it allows a very fast detection because it involves no waiting times, only the time that necessary for the nucleus remote to send a packet to the original machine, so we don't talk detection of millisecond under processes completed that.  Most of the deaths are detected through this mechanism.  Unfortunately, this mechanism is not infallible because it is based on a working network connection between the origin of the Member and the machine target.  Thus, it cannot detect a failed computer or network.

    This is where IpMon comes.  IpMon is a component within coherence where each Member once a second "pings" one machine in the cluster.  If the ping fails he follows it with additional pings (two by default).  If none of these pings work and there had been no acknowledgements of all members on the target during the ping cycle machine failed the remote machine is considered be failed and all the members who were running on it are reported as dead.  Note that the pings are not against members remote but the remote machines and therefore should succeed even if the remote member was temporarily unavailable due to a GC.  Time-out based means it is not deterministic, and we must set a relatively high time and try the County to try to avoid false positives.  The default value is three five second ping attempts.  So basically if you put a machine out of service or disconnect it from the IpMon network must withdraw all its members fifteen seconds approximately.  It is quite a long time from the time of detection under "millisecond" of TcpRing, but it is still fast enough.  Failure also produces far less often then suspension of treatment so it ends not accounting for most of the detections, but it does not fill in the void left by TcpRing.

    The final mechanism used is a delay of delivery of packets.  Each packet by coherence should get ack was within a few hundred milliseconds.  If it's not it gets broadcast automatically every few hundred milliseconds.  If this condition persists for an extended period (five minutes by default) then a fault is declared and one on both sides of the operation in the end must be removed from the cluster.  The original Member will consult with the other two members of the cluster and at least another agrees that the Member does not meet the destination member is declared as dead.  If both consulted members indicate that the destination seems to work very well then the author assumes local failure and ends.  In addition to the traffic normal cluster consistency will automatically send a heartbeat from point to point to a few other members once per second with an algorithm that ensures that every Member will be issued a heartbeat or some other communication within 2/3 of the timeout that is 2/3, 5 m.  And even in an inactive cluster sure us we would still have minimum transmissions both detect the inability of the acknowledgement, and also to have enough current stats to answer another Member of query asking if some third-party member building.  This type of detection of death only comes into play for a strange type of death.  The faulty Member machine and the process are detected as living, but the Member is inadmissible.  Basically it watches just for bugs in the transport of coherence itself.  It can also be caused by the target process receives no time CPU for a long time, I.E. CTRL-Z, GC, or Exchange and as such almost never occurs because failure would need to last five minutes.

    Regarding forestry, we do not have an option to save the package-level operations, but there will be if a member is declared as death and why he stated as being deceased.

    I hope that answers your questions.

    Thank you

    Blocking music works very well when I disable multicast on media from the regions resources group (I currenlty have 4 configured regions) but when I activate the use multi-cast for the Audio of the Ministry of HEALTH (if at least one resource MOH multicast is available) option on each resource media, then between parts group works one-way MOH and vice versa (TOH) waiting. Hi Karthik,

    Thanks for your update.

    Meets the lower needs too but its not working.

    • All members of the NLB cluster must be running on the same ESX and ESXi host.
    • All members of the NLB cluster must be connected to a single portgroup on the virtual switch.
    • Security policy forged pass on the Portgroup is set to Accept.

    SG

    These apply to unicast. It is quite bearable to have a NLB cluster in different hosts.

    I would recommend starting by moving to multicasting, which will be a much more bearable environment. Then check which configuration of switch, you have in place.

  • UCS and multicast

    I'm looking for some direction on two questions of the ucs as it relates to the multicast and 6200 fabric interconnects.

    1 - Igmp v3 and igmp snooping configuration

    2 - Configuration of modules e/s and fabric goes to support the follow-up to link such that if a channel of uplink port of the IOM from uplink FI or FI runs aground, it would the vswitch uplink bear appropriate in the low not of 'black hole' packages.

  • Version number and multicast

    Hi all:

    As far as I KNOW, the group address and port of a cluster are associated with the version of coherence. For example, to treat 224.3.6.0 =, port = 36000 implies that the NVA is 3.6.0.

    Now, my question is, if we have two nodes of consistency from different subnets, but with the same version of consistency, they will be in the same cluster?

    Also, do we have to create our own alternative xml descriptor to define the custom multicast address / port?

    Thank you

    No, the group address and port of a cluster has nothing to do with the version of coherence. But, by default, the Oracle coherence followed this convention. You can keep any port available multicast and address to your cluster using the override or - Dtangosol.coherence.clusteraddress and - Dtangosol.coherence.clusterport of the system properties file.

    Now, my question is, if we have two nodes of consistency from different subnets, but with the same version of consistency, they will be in the same cluster?

    It is not recommended to cross a bunch of consistency across subnets because of the possibility of failure of the connection between subnets and the data flow limited by the speed of link members. But with the right value-Dtangosol.coherence.ttl, you can do a cluster unique consistency on subnets. Generally, a value of 4 will allow consistency to the subnet of your nodes to form a single cluster.

    Also, do we have to create our own alternative xml descriptor to define the custom multicast address / port?

  • UCS and L2 multicast issues

    Hello

    I have 2 data centers connected through a tissue of spine / sheet using BGP EVPN. In a domain controller, I UCS and other legacy Dell ESX servers connected to catalyst switches. These are shared resources via a VPC local 9 k leafs to interconnect with the fabric. Some of VLANS have L2 multicast running. All the VLANS relevant are bridged through the fabric and presented to UCS/ESXi. When virtual machines have been vmotioned overall everything has worked well except the multicast broke. I created a policy of multicast in UCS and activated the interrogator with an IP address in one of VLAN relevant from the cisco documentation what UCS will not pass traffic unless there is a mrouter/interrogator. Then, I joined politics to the Vlan relevant under the section of LAN. However still does not. I don't see any questioning on the directly connected switches information upstream is. Should applicant IGMP allowed on switches?

  • Question of multicast and Microsoft NLB

    Hello

    I just set up our first server of Microsoft using multicast NLB cluster.

    The entry door of the VLAN is a 5540 Cisco and servers are connected on a pile of Cisco 3750.

    In order to let the ASA before executives for this multicast group I put static arp resolution in this cluster's multicast MAC address.

    No static MAC entry on our switches.

    All work purposes and multicast works but...

    (1) using the wireshark on our NLB nodes I found that frames are intended for machine unicast mac address. IF I ping from the ASA to the Cluster IP, ICMP is sent just for ALL NLB nodes.

    (2) all images are nodes NBL has the MAC address (physical) of unicast.

    (2) other hosts in the same VLAN do not receive all the emissions associated with this group (multicast works)

    (3) on our Cisco 3750 stack, multicast MAC address is not in the cam.

    Since only the NLB nodes receive this traffic, my question is:

    HOW the multicast can work only if the switch doesn't know anything about this group?

    Thank you

    Paolo

    Paolo,

    I really thought that you were using the IGMP option because of your statement:

    "(2) other hosts in the same VLAN do not receive all the emissions associated with this group (multicast works).

    Without the IGMP option, NETWORK load balancing uses a locally administered multicast MAC address with the format 03:BF:. Thus, this isn't an IANA-assingend (01-00-5E) multicast MAC address, IGMP Snooping can avoid flooding of these frameworks throughout the entire VLAN, which is the only way a switch can manage these frameworks. The recommendation to avoid/container this flood is the configuration of the static entries from MAC because the MAC of Cluster multicast (linking exclusively for the required ports). These static entries then also appear in the output of "show the mac address table.

    With the option IGMP, you can make use of the IGMP snooping to prevent flooding, so the static MAC entries are not required in this case and cluster multicast THAT MAC can be dynamically learned by IGMP snooping. It should then be listed in the output of 'show mac address-table multicast '.

  • SRP527W setting DHCP address and source firewall rules

    In my quest to find a decent ADSL router for VoIP, I found the SRP527W and so far it has been the best performer of a range of boxes from netgear, thomson, and zyxel.  However, I have two questions:

    (1) how to troubleshoot DHCP leases on the LAN address

    (2) how to specify source ip in the firewall rule

    Note:

    I currently have 1 computer on the LAN, VLAN1 interface

    * 192.168.15.100

    and

    2 IP phones on the LAN, VLAN100 interface

    * 192.168.100.100

    * 192.168.100.101

    Address three assigned by the DHCP server lease times with approximately 20 days.

    I would like to repair the three devices DHCP leases, for example if some port forwarding rules can be made with confidence that the rules will not point to another device in the future.

    from PVC0-> 192.168.15.100, Port 3389 for remote desktop

    of PVC0-> 192.168.100.100 ex.port 5881 to int.port 80 for voip phone web-gui

    from PVC0-> 192.168.100.101 ex.port 5882 to int.port 80 for voip phone web-gui

    Ideally, I would like the rules to act like that, limiting myself only to access these ports (from my remote site)

    PVC0 interface where the source is ip 12.34.56.78-> 192.168.15.100, Port 3389 for remote desktop

    PVC0 interface where the source is ip 12.34.56.78-> 192.168.100.100 ex.port 5881 to int.port 80 for voip phone web-gui

    PVC0 interface where the source is ip 12.34.56.78-> 192.168.100.101 ex.port 5882 to int.port 80 for voip phone web-gui

    I hope that makes sense, I appreicate any help you can give.

    Hi Paul,.

    Thank you for using the Cisco support community.

    With regard to two questions:

    1. Yes - it is possible to configure static DHCP assignments.  Use the DHCP Server rule configuration page and click the 'Show DHCP booking' button to assign.

    2. Unfortunately, it is not possible to configure rules to address source for the SRP520 list.  (This is possible on the SRP540 for further reading).

  • Multicast address and port number number

    Hi, I set up a cluster with the multicast address and the multicast port number. But unfortunately, there is another cluster in another domain with the same multicast address and the same port number. Now I need to find the other area that is having this multicast address and multicast port. But I'm not able to do. Is it possible for that?

    Its weblogic.cluster.MulticastMonitor
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E13222_01/WLS/docs100/cluster/multicast_configuration.html

    You could restrict that to the IP address by using this utility.
    If you have a large number of areas on this machine as well, then I think you can use netstat to understand the exact field.
    You may even consider the above debugging flags.

  • BT Vision (UK IPTV / Internet)-+ Multicast Unicast on same port wired?

    Hello

    I recently bought a Nighthawk R8000 to replace my BT Home Hub 4. Everything goes fine until I checked the BT Vision service I have. This box uses the internet standard and multicast for television services.

    The problem I have is that I can only have one or the other work at any time. So if I set up IPTV to cable port 4 bridge mode I get TV multicast channels but lose the standard Internet features.

    If I then disable bridge IPTV mode I get internet services normal but lose the multicast channels.

    Is there a mode / setting etc. that supports two IPTV multicast and unicast traffic to the same cable port?

    It feels like this should be possible, I'm not sure what method to achieve this.
