• Help recover lost memos in Palm OS by Access 6.4.0

  Hello

  I use Palm OS by Access 6.4.0 Desktop software. I used to use a Palm Zire handheld computer, but now to store all my notes and contacts on the desktop version. I opened the software Palm OS today to discover that all my memos are not displayed. When I look in the Palm Desktop under 'My Documents' file I see the following:

  MemoPad.bak that shows as a file BAK - modified 08/05/2012

  MemoPad.bak.back that shows as a file BAK - modified 08/05/2012

  Notebook (no extension file on this one) shows a file "Microsoft Access" - modified on 12/06/2014

  MemoPad.mdb.bak that shows as a BAK - modified file on 01/06/2014

  UiPrefs.dat which shows as a DAT file - modified on 13/06/2014

  The memo files were visible and functional the last time I recall to work with them, who were around June 1, 2014.

  Any suggestions on how I could do to get back my notes?

  OK, looking at my Palm Desktop memo files, I have the same files, but the size of the files is all the same!

  As you can see "Memo" in Palm Desktop, I would skip the first suggestion.

  First thing to do: copy the entire folder "Memo" somewhere else for safety.  Close to Palm Desktop, if it is still open.

  (BTW, you should ALWAYS close the program Palm Desktop 6.2.2 before turning off your computer!)  This version has a known bug in data loss if the execution of the program and the computer is turned off.)

  I use Windows 8.1, but I think that the file Explorer has the same appearance.  Open Explorer files on your computer, access the Memo file, then click on 'View' in the menu bar.   Look to the right of the option and see if the "file name Extensions" is selected.  If this is not the case, check it.

  Now, look at the files.  We will rename two of them.

  Change:

  MemoPad.mdb (the file without extension) to MemoPad.OLD

  MemoPad.bak to MemoPad.mdb

  Now re-open Palm Desktop and cross your fingers!    Let me know what happens.

  Just to start with a new company (I copied my files Palm OS Desktop of old computer system) and after installing Palm Desktop 6.2.2 by Access.  I copied on my copy of Palm OS Desktop File System info) and I could see my addresses however, my memo were there intermittently.  However sometimes I can launch Palm Desktop and my memos are present and othertimes they lack UGH.

  I copied my files and still nothing.  I reinstalled Palm Desktop and now the memos are still missing.

  I don't have the installation path for the instance of WIndows 7 is c:\pgm files x86\Palm and also noted information has been written for C:\users\me\OneDrive\MyDesktop\Palm OS Desktop

  File names and sizes are:

  Memopad.dat = 2836 KB

  notebook (without extension but watch to be associated w / MS Access) = 100KB

  Memopad.mdb.bak = 100 KB

  Memopad.mdb = 100 KB

  Uiprefs.dat = 1 KB

  After discovering the OneDrive info, I thought I could have the system shutdown event a replication and corrupt it however, I played a bit to rename the memopad.dat to .old and still nothing seems to me my pads.   I copied my files Palm OS Desktop system in the Office of OS C:\users\me\OneDrive\MyDesktop\Palm to see if that would help and it did not.

  I have data in Notepad format mid-90... really need my data!

  Is there another tool that I can use to open these categories memopad and pads?

  The installation directory is strange - I agree that could be the source of the problem.

  On the laptop ready Win8.1, I have the HP (for my participation in the Forums), the directory is:

  C:\Users\ < I > \Documents\PalmOS Desktop

  I backup the user data, uninstall Palm Desktop, and then reinstall and pay attention to where she has choices.

  A clean uninstallation may be necessary:

  These instructions are for Vista, but should work for Win7.
  
  You first need to you a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by clicking on start-> Documents-> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop user name and right click and copy. Then go to the desktop of your PC, click on a blank spot block and select.
  
  If this is the first time, you install Palm desktop and encounter a problem, go to the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this stage, go to the next step.
  
  Now, you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove anything that has to do with Palm Desktop on your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. [C:\Program Files\Palm or C:\Users\[Vista Palm connection name] \appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name] \appdata * note you may need to show hidden folders to join appdata. To do than to go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
  
  When you use Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the folder Office of PalmOS. It is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.
  
  Once this is done, you will need to remove certain keys in the registry of your PC operating system.
  
  Word of warning, go here and removing the wrong thing can cause your PC to start, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel that you are not sure of yourself, see if you have a friend who can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to remove. To make sure that we have a good copy of the current registry, we make a backup of the registry.
  
  Go to start on your PC in the search box type "regedit.exe" without the quotes.
  
  Point peak COMPUTER, go to file-> Export. Should appear with a save as box. Current place of residence is fine, must be within My Documents, or save to a location that you will remember. In the name of the file in low type "backup [todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Then, the most difficult part.
  
  The best way to ensure that your work with the right key, select the key that is installation quick palm and press delete on your keyboard. You will be asked, you of course. Say Yes. Do the same for all the keys below.
  
  If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
  
  The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of the theses reg keys will not be here, but if they remove them)
  
  * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * Robotics\Pilot Desktop HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
  
  Then, restart your computer.
  
  Then, reinstall your Palm desktop and do a hotsync. If request you a user name, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right of the screen to hotsync.

• Help! Lost all the data and contacts while Hotsync-ing

  OK - I'm a fool.  I have a Treo 650 and have had problems of synchronization - lying there.  Today, I had the brilliant idea to delete all my contacts and calendar on my computer and starting over.  I put the phone hotsync and after a few minutes received an error message saying that the sync-ing process was interrupted.  Then I discovered that all the data of contacts and the calendar on my palm has been eliminated.  I thought that I had made a backup, but, just, did a search on my computer (XP Home) and couldn't find any file with .aba.

  I had hotsynced.  There seems not to be problems with the settings on the computer, but the hard reset was eliminated my cable/dock setting.  I've recreated in this regard, hit hotsync on the 650, and he ran through the whole process.  Data on 650 and PC.  Now, to re - create my calendar

  She has updated his phone, then on iTunes, but then they were not compatible with each other, so following the advice here, I managed to restore the drivers and his phone has been recognized. She wanted to transfer his vacation photos on his computer (Windows 10) so I plugged his phone in and said yes it's jeannebinghams iPhone (because the other question was about it being a new iPhone), and then he changed his phone, she had which was last used in December 2015. So now all his photos are back latter upwards. Nothing new has disappeared.

  ICloud is the obvious answer, but she had that and she had not saved her phone at all since she got the 6.

  Are the photos since the two last weeks of his vacation here somewhere to hide? Or should we try to find a phone specialist who might be able to help, before make worse us it!

  Sorry, these photos have disappeared.

  You have restored his phone to an old backup - those removing all current data.

  Since she does not back up on iTunes or icloud nor it has imported his photos to his computer, then there is nothing to restore from.

  There is no hard drive on the iphone to a computer, no specialist or 3rd party program will bring these pictures back then do not waste your money.

• 'MOVE AND REPLACE' HELP! Lost photos!

  I downloaded photos on my pc dell of my camera and then transferred to another series after that. When trasferring the second batch of photos in the same folder as the first was in I 'moved & replaced' them and now they are lost. Is there a way I can recover those that have been replaced without removing those which the replaced? Thank you

  Looks like the second batch file names were the same
  as the first batch (this happens if the camera is not set to number
  files consecutively)

  This means that the first group of files has been crushed and they
  not be recoverable from your hard drive.

  However... There is a small chance that you are able to recover
  files to the memory card by using the following free software:

  (FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)

  I have Windows Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit upgraged. I can manually create restore points, but they are deleted when I restart the system. Can someone please help?

  1. have you installed any third-party backup tool?
  Method 1.
  a. Click Start, type services.msc in the start search bar and press ENTER.
  b. Locate the Volume Shadow Copy service.
  c. click cliché instant volume, then select restart.
  d. now cliché clickVolume-right and select Properties.
  e., under Startup type, select automatic.
  Method 2.
  Please check the use of disk space for the protection of the system by the following steps:
  a. go to start, right click on computer and then click Properties.
  (b) in the left pane, click system protection.
  c. check the Protection status of the drive that you want to use the system restore on.
  d. Select the drive, and then click Configure.
  e. move the slider of the use of Max to the right to increase the disk space for the protection of the system.
  f. click OK.
  Create a restore point and reboot and check.
   
  If the problem persists, check the System event log and see if there is any error concerning the restoration of the system, VSS or VolSnap, at the point where you saw last deleted restore points. If so, please reply here.
