HELP: How to 'restore' a via vddk vmdk file?

Hi all

After "backup" a vmdk via VixDiskLib_Read() + write all sectors recovered in a local file, how can I 'restore' that particular vmdk?

I know that to have an existing vmdk file (even if it's a blank disc), I can use VixDiskLib_Write() to write again all the bytes to disk (in hosted mode).  But my question is what do I do if I do not have this file vmdk beforehand?  The document 'design the backup solution for vsphere' seems to suggest that I have to create the vmdk file myself (for example to create a virtual disk empty).

But how can I create with proper DiskType?  (by clean I mean the disktype is the same as the original disk)  I can't find any API (vix, vddk and vsphere web service) that provides the type of disk of a given vmdk file.

(I suppose a vmdk 'restored' must be identical to the original, "size' to 'type of card'"disk type"at"HW version", etc.)

Thanks in advance!

py

Hi Py,

The solution is not intuitive enough - when you restore, you create a virtual machine with the same hardware configuration as the original virtual machine. This creates discs. Now you can open each of these discs and write to them with the saved content. There is documentation that explains this, but he talks about the VI api which you should be able to extrapolate on the api web services server.

Hope that helps and thanks for using VDDK,

Annick

How to restore control of the trace file file?

say I have a file of trace control file and I've lost all control file copies. The only backup of control file is the control file record.

What are the steps to follow.

    Version: 10.2.0.4
    OS: Solaris 10

    SQL > alter database backup controlfile to trace;

After giving this statement, oracle will write the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement in a trace file. The trace file will be randomly
called something like ORA23212. TRC and it is created in the USER_DUMP_DEST directory.

    2. go in the USER_DUMP_DEST directory and open the last trace file in the text editor. This file will contain the CREATE CONTROLFILE
statement. It will be two sets of instruction with RESETLOGS and one without option RESETLOGS RESETLOGS.use of the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement.
Now, copy and paste the statement into a file. Whether c.sql

  • How to shrink a virtual disk (vmdk file)

    I use VMware Workstation 12.1 Pro on Windows 7 x 64.

I have a virtual drive of 140 GB that I converted to stretch of prealloue (with excellent yesterday using continuum here).

First, in Windows Disk Manager, I lowered the score of 140 GB GB 70, leaving the end 70 GB unallocated (unused). So I thought it would be easy to reduce the 140 GB vmdk file to 70 GB.

I ran the vmware - vdiskmanager.exe command line with the-k option on the file vmdk from the host with the virtual machine off. Then in the virtual machine powered on, the command prompt, I ran VMwareToolboxCmd.exe fret C:\.

These two options gave me a disc that was essentially the same size than what I started with. Looks like there should be an easy way to drop that last unused 70 GB, but I can't. Which offer a suggestion?

    Thank you!

    Joe

To effectively reduce a vmdk extensible, you must be able to write to these locations with the trash.
You resized the partition - which means that the trash is outside the accessible area in writing.
    Options:
create a partition at the end of the disc, wipe it by filling it with zeros, when the partition is completely filled with zeros - shrink again and remove the fake wall when done. I suggest this order:
    Start: preallocated 140 GB vmdk
1 defragment the partition from inside the guest
    2. resize the partition to 70 GB
    3. turn off the virtual machine completely and simply cut the flat.vmdk to 71 GB with a dd command
    4. adjust the description of the measure in descriptorfile

result: a vmdk préallouée 70 GB

I don't know if I fully understand your question, but when you open a secure channel in GPShell, the rest of the session (until you doing something that ends the secure session), the APDU is sent by using appropriate encryption and kidnapped, according to the security level.

-Security parameter give the level of security required for the secure session. This is described in the README file.

    -x 0 security: clear, 1: MAC, 3: MAC + ENC

  • How to retrieve a large vmdk file in ESXi?

    Hello

I desperately need help. I have a server with ESXi. One of the virtual machines in this server had a top serving our customers mail server. We had to move this mail server to a different location. When I tried to re - create the virtual machine with the same e-mail server (for testing purposes) all of a sudden, the big vmdk file disappeared. Of course, when I try to load the machine now, it gives an error "file not found".

I read on other pages on how to recreate the vmdk file, but they were all on ESX and has not worked for me. The best method was present.

Please can someone help me on how I can get the big vmdk file?

    Thanks in advance.

    OK... explaining:

A VMDK file is the union between a VMNAME.vmdk header file and a file VMNAME - flat hard. The datastore browser, when you have both, they appear as one, as on the second screenshot.

The virtual machine always point to the VMNAME.vmdk file, which points to the VMNAME - flat hard, which really contains the data. You will never see the dish once that these two files are located on the data store, but sometimes people delete it and I was suggesting that it may have happened to you.

Hard 00000files are instant. They are the changes on the original flat file logs, but if you don't have it you can't rebuild since the change to connect because you do not have the original data map.

You may need to call a company to recover files from disks, or look for some tools which does this in VMFS volumes - I don't know everything, since VMFS is too simple and not to keep track of deleted files unless you take a snapshot of the file system in some time.

If you do not have backups and can produce the VMDK or the flar. VMDK no matter where, there is nothing more I can do to help you. Sorry about that

You will find this bookmarking a page (by clicking the star next to the address, or to go in bookmarks > bookmark this page is precisely what we must remember the pages.) This is a feature common in web browsers, and it's very very useful in many situations, including the memory of the location of the pages that you want to see later, allowing access to the pages that you use frequently and other things too.

If you want to know about session restore, there is a helpful support article here which I think also has information on version 3.0. However, I invite you, once more, update, since older versions (including 3.0) are is more sustained and have known security flaws. In addition, you will not lose any no matter what functionality at all (unless you use modules that are no longer usable by the newer versions, in which case you must contact the authors of Add-ons for support and ask them to update their software), is free and very easy to do.

If you need other help at all, whatever it is, tips, troubleshooting, step-by-step procedures, feel free to ask here.
