Help Im not an administrator

Help!

When I opened that need access to administrator. I can't click 'Yes' on my UAC. Now, I can not install anything, even 'manage' the 'Workstation' :(

Please answer quickly.

Hi Zia,

The first time you set up Windows, you have created a user account. This account is automatically an administrator account, so that you can complete the configuration of your PC and install any programs that you want to use. When you add other accounts to your PC, however, they will usually be standard accounts. Standard accounts are best for everyday use. The Windows login screen shows which accounts are set up on this PC. Please check and let us know how many user accounts is configured on your computer.

Sign in with an administrator account. You can make changes if you are using an administrator account. From your post, I see that you have not logged as an administrator you're not able to make changes.

I have a laptop hp windows xp opportunity and I would like to format it but I can't because I'm not the administrator. How do I format it without admin access?

You probably mean you want to re - install Windows.  How you do it depends of what laptop you have and whether you have any recovery/reinstallation CDs, but in any case, you do NOT start with "formatting" of the computer.

I cannot perform certain functions because he says that I'm not an administrator, but it's my computer and I'm the only person who uses this computer

What are the functions? More global changes (changes to the system, software installation) require an elevation in Vista/Windows 7.

Changes to the built-in Vista administrator account

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=942956

User - recommended configuration (Vista and Win7) accounts

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all other Windows 7, Vista, and modern operating systems are operating systems multi-user with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want account only one user with administrator privileges on Vista and Windows 7 because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it may require more work you want to do. Better not to get into a bad situation at first.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Program runs in the hidden administrator account, but not the administrator account

I have been using Altium Designer for about 5 months. One day, I tried Eun and got the error "dxp.exe has stopped working.  So, after trying a re-boot.  I have reinstalled the software.  At the end of installation, I get the message "the system administrator has set policies that prevent this facility." The installation then said that the installation has been completed successfully. I tried: unlock all files in the installation directory, run the installation as an administrator, the installation running on the hidden administrator account. Turn off UAC.

The installation leaves me with a program which runs in hidden administrator but not nromal administrator.  Even if the install ation was made as normal anministrator.

I am running Windows 7 Home premium, so the control of local security is not available.

Thank you for your help ITKnowledge24.  Your post helped me to find parts of the program that I would never know that existed.

It turns out that my problem was in two parts.  First what killed the software is primarily a print unrelated dirver.  (go figure)  Installation errors were caused because I downloaded the version recient most of the manufacturer's Web site.  When I reinstalled using the old version, the installation was without error.  The software starts to run correctly when the printer driver has been removed.  It seems that windows security was only a Kipper.

I am trying to download the latest version of adobe flash player from their site. When I try to download it, it will tell me I have not sufficient permissions to do so and I am downloading to an administrative account, and it still does not work.

    Hi Antonlew,

    1. are you able to install/download other programs without any problem?

    2. did you of recent changes on the system?

    3. you receive the error message when download or install Flash player?

If you run the installation files, you can try using administrator privileges and check if that helps:

Right click on the program installation files and then click run as administrator.

  • Computer Dell laptop, they put as administrator with password created now says access denied need to log on as an administrator. But I did not log Administrator icon

I've had my laptop by dell. on their return, I was signing the administrator with password created. It was working fine until I got the blue screen of death, and then in the mist to restart on the desktop, the windows 7 installation began as I receive it. Well, I got a few documents and photos that I had and they are no longer under one account I created. Also, now I can't print it said access denied need to log on as an administrator. But I did not log Administrator icon more. Help, please!

    I could do this:

    • Reference Dell request the logon credentials.
    • Plan in advance and create, test and document a spare, even admin account that you have a spare House key. Relying on a single unique administrator account is far too risky!
  • Cannot update Windows 8.1 - shop says I'm not an administrator

I'm having a problem where when I try to download/install the free update for Windows 8.1 of the store Windows I get an error message saying that the update can be installed by an administrator account and you identify with such an account and try again. The only problem is that I'm the only user on the PC account and I already checked the settings and I am registered as an administrator by default. So, I am confused as to how the PC might think that I'm not an administrator there is no other user account on the system. I'm not having problems to access specific programs or update of all other components and the UAC settings seem to work well. At this stage this error seems specifically related to the Windows store and trying to download the update to 8.1. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Lenny,

I am pleased that the issue is resolved.

  • Let me export bookmarks as html, say you that I am not the administrator, but I'm

I'm interested in dual-boot for Linux. However, I need to export my favorites. I was always able to export my favorites to an html element, but now say you that I can't because I'm not the administrator? I am the only user and run as administrator. This is not sensible.

You cannot export the Favorites to an HTML on the desktop?

You can make Firefox create an automatic HTML (bookmarks.html) backup when you exit Firefox, if you set the pref to true on the subject browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML: config page.

The backup is created by default in the profile folder bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and the path through the pref browser.bookmarks.file on the topic: config page.

The pref browser.bookmarks.file does not exist by default and you must create a new pref to string with the name browser.bookmarks.file and set the value to the full path of the file backup bookmarks.

Note: an HTML backup preserves tags and annotations, to lose them if you need to import the backup HTML.

  • missing a few previously purchased songs (!)  and i-tunes helper does not

I keep getting errors during a new playlist, saying "file not found".      So I tried the recommended - diagnostic tests that shows "I-tune helper does not ' is the two partners?   How can I find the missing music and recover my account?

I don't think the two are connected. I'm really not sure what the role of iTunes Helper, but a proposal that's what launches iTunes when you connect your devices, if you have this option enabled.

The "missing file" error occurs if the file is no longer where iTunes is expected to find. Causes possible is that you or a third-party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the reader, he feeds has been a change to the drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from waiting for the files in the presentation of pre-iTunes 9 post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice versa, and so looking for a bit in the wrong place.

Select a track with an exclamation point, use Ctrl - I to get the information, and then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Because of a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say no twice!) Look under the Summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks that the file should be. Now look around your hard drive. I hope you can locate the track in question. If a part of your library has just been moved, renamed a folder or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse actions. If the difference between the two railroads is an additional music directory in a path, then it is a problem of layout. I can explain more if this is the case. If everything is where it is supposed to be trying to fix the security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

In some cases, iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info, but this time, click on search and browse the lost track. He peut then offers to try to automatically correct the other broken links. Although he said something like 'use the same location' I think he expects to find the titles in the same layout artist & album that they were before, with a systematic change to the path.

If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it difficult to restore media on the precise way that iTunes is expected. In this case, as long as the missing files somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script for reconnecting to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

If you want me to try to provide specific advice, please post back the following details:

    1. The location of the media file under Edit > Preferences > advanced
    2. The location of a sample of missing follow indicated under Get Info > file > location which begins file://localhost/
    3. The real path to the file which you gave 2 details.
