  • How clearup unsuccessful installing oracle 11g R2 on redhat linux 5

    Hello world

Try to install oracle 11g R2 on the test server Red Hat linux 5 (according to the quick installation guide), I did the following tests:

trial (1): failed by giving the file not found error. I discovered that I need to I have unzipped the source files in a dir.
    (2) trial: failed because there is no static IP address
trial (3): failed because that/etc/hosts was not set correctly.

the installation was supposed to be in default dir/home/oracle/app
the problem is that before every test I just renamed app app_old and once again the new installation with the default settings.

I have now to clearup this whole mess, I know this isn't simply deleting the directory created, because I need to free the RAM memory reserved for the crteated of databases in all previous installations.

    Help please,
    Thanks for your time

    Best regards

You will need to find consulting companies in your area to do it. If you always use CentOS, they recommend most likely you are using a supported operating system version

You can install in any desired point of installation/directory. Oracle does not give a flying fig this topic. Just put it somewhere that makes sense.

Thank you for helping me with the link to be honest, I had looked into it long back...

Yes, the software worked just yesterday, I had installed on XP(different machine).

I've added my PC to the domain, logged in as administrator & double clicked, even... no response.

Finally, I used "command prompt" and it worked!   don't know how or why... but worked.

Now my database is created successfully

Yes would like to know why this happened... and how things worked via the command prompt & not by double clicking... would be very happy if someone can help me on this.

  • Install Oracle 11g R2 on RHEL 6

    Hello

I'm trying to install Oracle 11 g R2 on RHEL6 using VM Ware workstation. I went through all the controls preinstallion and now want to create directories to hold the oracle software.

My UNIX box has only one primary partition which is the root partition (/).

Now the Oracle documentation on installing LInux say the following commands must be executed.

    # Pei mkdir /mount_point/app/

    # chown r oracle: oinstall /mount_point/app/

    # chmod 775 r /mount_point/app/

    For example:

    # mkdir -p /u01/app/
    # chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01/app/
    # chmod -R 775 /u01/app/

I want to know is the following, which one should I get about this

    (a) create a new partition, make a new file system and then mount it on the directory/U01

    or

    (b) create a/U01 directory in the root (/) directory using mkdir and just go ahead with the installation without any additional partition or file system.

    Thank you.

    Hello

as you use this machine in a virtual machine, you can simply create the folder with mkdir. The need for the mounting points on the various devices becomes relevant for productive environments due to performance reasons.
