  • Windows Movie Maker project disappeared, need help!

I was recently working on the 3rd video of the year for my daughter using Windows Movie Maker. I worked on it for a few months now. I save every 10 minutes or more. I was almost finished and clicked on save, and I got a popup that I was 'Out of Memory' that happens from time to time. Then I tried to save it under a different name, and then I got a new popup that says "unknown error." I decided to close Windows Movie Maker, and then restart the computer. I then noticed that the icon/file for my project was no longer visible. I checked the trash and he wasn't there. I did many searches for it on my computer with the file name and the file extension, nothing and also restored my computer to a few days earlier and the project file does not re - appeared. Just some thoughts...

This happens usually when the source files are
not totally compatible and also may be linked
    transitions.

In Movie Maker, you could try to go into tools.
Options / Compatibility tab and disable all
    the filters.

Also you can try to convert your source files
    to different formats.

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

    Photos - bmp
Video - wmv or dv - avi
    Music - wma, wav, wmv

And you can try to remove the transitions.

    2. don't you import music files separately from the photos and video files?

The point being: there are only a few audio formats that are supported by Windows Movie Maker.
Supported by WMM audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma

File format is represented by the letters lsat 3 of the audio file.

If your audio file format is not on the list above, you need to google for a FREE audio converter and change your audio file.
