Help with the consolidation of NETWORK cards

I have a box blade with several blades attached to the switch blade.  Read the doc and experimentation, it seems that with the parameter 'link status only' blades will never be aware of the problems of network beyond the connection between the blade and the local switch.

For example, I have install NIC teaming with:

Nic0 = active

NIC1 = standby

By causing a failure on the way to nic0 (beyond the switch), I lost the connection and the day before not to enter in action.

Question 1:

When you never use (is an auxiliary card not almost useless)?

Question 2: (I really need an answer for this one)

Assuming that you use Active/active instead of the active / standby * and *.

You have a network outage where esxi is not aware of the outage * and *.

Everything which load balancing option you are using happens to try to send down the wrong path...

The load balancer alogrythm keep trying this wrong way forever and never try the other path?

NB - I know hadou "beacon probing" option but most ay docs to not use it.

Thank you

Hello

What blade case are you help and who past did they? Various switches have a function for example Cisco Monitoring of State of the link that allows to disable contactors blade interfaces internal fail all the external interfaces. This means that you should never get into a position whereby the upstream link failure will go unnoticed.

    Hello

    We recently had to our file VMware Server after a bit nasty failure of his original material.  Since we moved, it mostly worked OK, but we don't get the occational network shares paw when large files are thrown on.

    ESXi host, sure it works use 5Gbit ethernet adapters on the same Virtual Switch.  Looking at the traffic it would seem that all traffic flows in just a single NETWORK adapter and it is not much at all through the others.  Is something that I need to set it up so that it can better load balance between network cards?  Or is it a document anywhere who recommended settings for multiple network cards?

    I found a vDS topic but we have not undertaken more liciencing on most of our servers.

    We run VSphere 4.1 via the Vcentre server.

    Thanks for the help.

    What you say makes a little more sense on what I see.  There is very little traffic flowing through other NETWORK cards, but is perhaps because there isn't any real traffic goes to them.  I thought that VMware may use multiple NICs, if it was required that is why I thought I'd see more data on the other.

    Curiosity is anyway that I can combine NICs for more flow using VMware?

    The load balancing, you can achieve with VMware is not a "real" load balancing, this is more a static distribution of traffic in accordance with the policy, you have chosen.

    You use means that according to the virtual switch port ID the vNIC to the host is connected to a specific bear is chosen. This unique vNIC traffic will use this bear as long as this bear does not fail. In this case the guests more with vNIC, you have the better are used Teddy.

    Other policies can be better for other scenarios. For example, 'Hash IP' uses the source IP address and target to choose a teddy bear. It is a good policy for a server with a vNIC single file and many different communication partners. The 'Source Port' policy route all traffic through a teddy bear so that 'Hash IP' policy would use many Teddy as not what ID port is used, but the communications partners. And a file server must have many of them, more than it has of vNIC.

  • Switches Cisco stackable, 500 and the consolidation of NETWORK cards

    Am looking using the stacking and NIC teaming to create redunancy for user access to servers. What I think is becoming 2 switches SG500-28 and set them up in a stack which appears as a logical switch. Now on the servers I have re 2 network cards to be a team so that they appear as a logical interface 1, perferably in an active/active configuration using LACP. In this team NIC take 1 member of the team to either switch B, so that each Member of the team is on separate switches.

    Givent the scenario:

    (1) who will work with the switches of the 500 series? The switches is that their price point is perfect for my client.

    (2) in addition, the connection of the battery will be there also needs to be a GAP between the switches or the connection of the battery is also data traffic?

    Hi Robert,.

    (1) I don't see any reason that this would not work as desired. There are the requirements by doing a SHIFT but being on the same physical switch isn't a.

    (2) with the switch of SG500 line, you have a few options for up/down the link between the switches to the battery, it depends on the model. Each of them supports 1 G up and down links with copper. The switches are then divided and support 5G or 10G mini-gbic down links. There is not currently an options trolling battery links.

    Let me know if that answers your questions!

  • core VM and the consolidation of NETWORK cards

    Hello

    By default, VM network ports group is associated with two vmnic and the management ports group is connected to one vmnic. Is there a reason for this?

    This isn't really a default configuration.

    By default would be vmk0-> vSwitch0-> vmnic0 - just an uplink to the default vSwitch.

    It seems that someone is gone, has added the vmnic1 to your vSwitch0 and configured the active adapters / Eve / unused. To clear the reason for this, you have to love the person responsible for this change.

    Could also be a config after installation automatically, depends on how you installed your ESXi host.

  • Need help with the upgrade of the WLAN on Satellite Pro 6100 minipci card

    Hello everyone, I desperately tried to update my WIRELESS card on my laptop SP6100, since it was delivered with a card minipci wifi-b, which is not fast enough today. s standards.

    Each piece of the Toshiba official documentation mention the SP6100 has a mini-PCI type 3a slot, so can accommodate two minipci card a type 3a and 3B wifi.
    But unfortunately for me, I discovered the hard way that it is absolutely NOT the case - I was put back by a fortune by buying costs for a type3 intel minipci wifi card, which does NOT at all on the laptop.

    I spent an hour in unnecessary calls to the customer service from Toshiba, that I had to convince PCMCIA certainly isn't the same as miniPCI, and Mini - PCI cards ARE CERTAINLY replaceable by the user. She insisted that she could not be changed by the user of the system, but by toshiba themselves.

    Could someone please please advise me on the type of wifi card that are built with the SP6100 laptops? I think is it AGERE brand, in the form of WLAN minipci card. I know that it IS certainly NOT miniPCI type 3.

    Help, please! Thank you.
    And besides, every place that I tried so far appears only sell type3 miniPCI cards,
    Other types of Mini-PCI cards are available to retail customers?

    Infinite thanks!

    Hello

    You must understand that your model of laptop is quite old and right now the market wasn't available standard b. I'm pretty skeptical that you will be able to use the standard WLAN with G maps due to compatibility issues. On this forum, I founded several threads that people write about the problems of upgrading older models of laptops with the new wireless network cards.

    In my opinion the best solution for you is to use a PCMCIA WLAN card. The installation should be easy and you can use the wireless network with faster data transfer adapter.

  • Need help with the data storage store, local array and network connections

    Need help with my ESXi 4.1 installation

    My hardware:

    I built a server with an Asus P6T whitebox, i7 920, 12 Gig RAM, NIC, Intel Pro1000 PT Quad, 3ware 9650SE-12ML with 8 1.5 TB SATA green in a raid 6 array gives me about 8 + TB with a spare drive all housed within a NORCO RPC-4220 4U Rackmount Server chassis.  I also have a 500 GB SATA drive which will hold the ESXi and virtual machines.

    The network includes a firewall, Netgear Prosafe FVS336G, GS724Tv of Netgear ProSafe 24 port Gigabit Managed Switch on a dhcp cable modem internet service provider.

    I also have 2 old NetGear SC101T NAS disks (4to) I want to connect to the system how some - at a later date have... data on them and want to transfer to the new storage array. I always looking into the question of whether they will work with ESXi 4.1, or I might have to only access it through Windows XP.

    My Situation:

    I have already installed ESXi 4.1 and vsphere client with no problems and it is connected to a dhcp cable internet service.  I've set up host via a dynamic DNS service name give me a static hostname on the internet.  I installed three machines to virtual OS successfully at the moment and now want to first start by creating a multimedia storage server which will use some of this new 8 TB array, then separate data storage for use with a web server small overhead storage and a backup.  It is a domestic installation.

    Help with the data store and network:

    I was doing some reading, because I'm new to this, and it looks like I'll probably want to set up my table via ESXi as a nfs disk format.  Now, the data store is usually in another physical box from what I understand, but I put my readers and ESXi all in the same box.  I'm not sure that the best way to put in place with grouped network cards, but I want to make this work.

    I understand that in ESXi 4.1 using iSCSi LUN must be less than 2 TB, but nfs - I should be able to add a bigger partition then 2 TB (for my multimedia) in nfs, right? or should I still add it separately as a separate 2 TB drives and then extend them to get the biggest space.

    Any suggestions or direct resources showing examples on how to actually add some parts of the table as data warehouses separate nfs.  I know that to go to the configuration tab, and then select Add to storage, and then select nfs. I have not my picture, but it's here that I don't know what to do because ESXi 4.1 system already has an address, should I put the same thing to the new data store array also (will it work?), and what should I use for the name of the folder and the store of data... just do something to the top.  I thought to later install Openfiler (for a multimedia storage using this table server) as a virtual machine, use the table with esxi so that I can access the same storage space with widows and linux-based systems.

    I also know I have to find a way to better use my quad nic card... put in place of virtual switches, grouping, etc HELP?

    Any direction, assistance, similar facilities to sample, suggestions or resources that would help would be great. I did a lot of hunting, but still a little confused on how to best to put in place.

    You must think of VMDK files of large databases with records of random size guest go read some data (a DLL or an INI file), maybe write some data back, then go read other data. Some files are tiny, but certain DLLs are several megabytes. It's random i/o all and heavy on the search time. IO Opsys is small random operations that are often sequential (go read data, write data, go read other data,...) so that deadlines are critical to the overall performance. That's why people say OPS are / s of reference and forget the MBs flow. The only time where you bulk transfers are when you read media (ISO files).

    Well, now forget all this. Actually the disk activity will depend on the specific applications (database? mail server? machines compiler?), but the above is true for boots, and whenever applications are idle. You should see the profile to know.

    RAID 10 is faster (and often more reliable) than RAID 5 or RAID-6 except in certain specific cases. In General RAID 10 is ideal for many random writes, since the calculation of parity for RAID-5 and - 6 adds to the overall latency between command and response - latency is cumulative if a little slow here and a little slow it adds up to a lot of overall slow synchronous especially with e/s on a network. OTOH RAID-5 and -6 can produce faster readings due to the number of heads, so you can use it for virtual machines that transfer bulk. Test. You may find that you need several different types subdashboards for best results.

    You said 3ware, they have some good grades on their site, but don't believe it. With my 9650 that I found myself with only a couple of their recommendations-, I put the (simple) table for allocation size 256 k, nr_requests at 2 x the queue_depth and use the planner date limit. I had the habit for the Ext4 file system formatted with stride and stripe-width synced to the table and used the options large_files with fewer inodes (do not use the huge_files option unless you plan to have single VMDK files in the terabyte range). Use a cache of great reading in advance.

    Virtual machines use VMDK files in all cases except raw iSCSI LUN that they treat native disks. VMDK is easier to manage - you can make a backup by copying the file, you can move it to a PC and load it into another flavour of VMware, etc. There could be some features iSCSI to your San as a transparent migration but nothing for me. NFS has less chatter of Protocol if latency lower times to complete an operation. NFS is good to read and write a block of data, that's all it boils down to.

    UPS is good, but it won't help if something inside the machine explodes (UPS does nothing if the PC power supply goes down). If the RAID card has an option for a battery backup module, so it can contain some writings in memory and may end up the disk i/o after replacing the power supply. 3ware also limits the types of caching available if help is not installed, and you get just the right numbers with the module.

  • How to list all the vm with more than one network card?

    Hello

    Is it possible to only list all my s vm in my environment with more than one network card?

    I tried using the Get-NetowrkAdapter cmdlet, but could not get the desired results.

    Get - VM | Get-NetworkAdapter | Select-Object Name. ConvertTo-HTML-head $a - body "Virtual Machines < H2 > < / H2 > ' | Out-file D:\vms.htm

    Thank you

    Hello, AGFlora-

    Of course, you can do this with the standard as cmdlets:

    ## using standard cmdletsGet-VM | Select Name, @{n="NumNICs"; e={(Get-NetworkAdapter -VM $_ | Measure-Object).Count}} | ?{$_.NumNICs -gt 1}

    Or, if you want to get the results a little (or a lot) more quickly, you can use the cmdlet Get-view as:

    ## fast-like, using Get-ViewGet-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Name,Config.Hardware.Device | Select Name,@{n="NumNICs"; e={($_.Config.Hardware.Device | ?{$_ -is [VMware.Vim.VirtualEthernetCard]} | Measure-Object).Count}} | ?{$_.NumNICs -gt 1}

    Those are both by selecting the names of virtual machines and their number of network cards.  Then you can direct this output to Export-Csv, ConvertTo-HTML, what you like.  What to do for you?

    Hello

    The link below is a guige to install a video card in your Pc.  In particular, it seems that you will have to perhaps specify the location of the new card in the bios and save this change before you install the new card - see step 4 in the guide on the link below.  If your new card fits into the PCI Express x 16 slot, you will need to define PCI Express in the bios and save the changes.

  • Need help with the decision of the laptop

    I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I really need help. I am buying a laptop and what should be a very exciting perspective (my first laptop purchase) turns into a nightmare that had me pretty much in tears over the weekend.

    My budget is not big - absolute maximum of 600 pounds, but I'd rather spend a little less than that.

    I mainly work of office (Word, Excel, database and PowerPoint) and also some Photoshop work. I also play a strategy game called Caesar 3. I want to charge my copy of XP on the computer or replace Vista or as a partition.

    Looking through the available templates in my price range and rising benchmarks, I found the following:

    Most have processors such as the Intel T5250 or T5450 or AMD TL 58, which are all rated as ok, but not very well. Some have the AMD TL 60, which is a little better and one or two have the T7200 Intel which is even better.

    On most of the machines graphics cards are the ATI Radeon Xpress X 1200 or the Intel GMA X 3100. These two are calibrated as not terrible and the review says that they cannot manage strategy games. Some of the models have the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 and HD 2400XT and one or two have the HD 2600.

    The problem is that the models that have the best processor have the lower rated graphics card and those who do not have XP drivers, I see.

    Don't mind a 15.4 screen "(although the 17.1" would be very nice to have) and want a pretty big hard drive (160 +). I get 2 GB of RAM.

    I'm at my wits end. I don't want to buy a computer that will eventually take a minute or more to refresh a screen when you have more than two things open, or you will have to keep rebooting to make it work. I want to be able to play my one and only (Caesar III) game which is a strategy game and I want to be able to work in Photoshop and maybe one or two other things open at the same time, as a website perhaps.

    Help me please, anyone. I asking the impossible? I can't get my hands on an email address for Toshiba try to get clarity on their part on the issue of drivers and they will be available in the future.

    Then there is of course the issue detailing as each stock only a limited number of models, and we must choose between those detailing.

    I hope someone can help me!

    Hello

    The problem is you want to buy a laptop all over the place but don t want to spend a lot of money.

    In addition, you want to change the XP operating system and have XP drivers.

    Well it's boyfriend very difficult decision ;)

    A laptop for gaming with the graphics power full card cost slightly more than £ 600
    If you need to make a decision; You want to buy a gaming laptop and to spend more than £ 600 or you will have a notebook that is ideal for everyday use, like watching DVDs, in collaboration with the office software, etc.

    The Caesar game is unknown to me, but I assume that it doesn t need a graphics card high performance and it should work on a normal phone too.

    I think that a Satellite a200 is not bad choice for you, because some A200 laptop computers were shipped with the Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor and an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card.

    And very important is that all the XP drivers were already released ;)

  • Help with the purchase of a microSDHC

    I recently filled my Fuze, upgraded to the latest firmware and I'm ready to increase its capacity. I thought to buy a 8 GB Sandisk from amazon, but I'm not if I need a SD adapter so I can connect it to my computer. If I keep it plugged the "rocket" I will be able to access the card through the device, or it will appear as a separate storage device? Any help with the purchase of a microSDHC will be greatly appreciated.

    The 8 GB SanDisk microcard works perfectly, and you can plug just the "rocket" and most likely to leave it there. When you connect to your computer the microcard will appear as a separate... drive for example, on mine, the "rocket" is the J: drive and the card is drive K:

    Anything on the card will be perfectly integrated into the memory of the "rocket" when using it.

  • Need help with the API Explorer

    Hi all

    I am creating a workflow to automate certain tasks of P2V and I want to disconnect the NETWORK adapter prior to anyting on virtual machines. When everything is done, I want reconnect you this NIC I play with vCO for a few months now and I need to get help with the part of the script. I always managed to find a code but this time I did not find anything!

    So I need to script this part! I think I found a way to change the connection settings of the VMXNET3 NETWORK adapter with this part of the code:

    System.getModule("com.vmware.library.vc.vm.spec.config.device").getVirtualVmxnet3(backing,connectable,controllerKey,deviceInfo,key,unitNumber,addressType,macAddress,wakeOnLanEnabled)
    var connectset = new VcVirtualDeviceConnectInfo();
    connectset.connected = false;
    connectset.startConnected = false;

    Now, I need to find the way to set these parameters to a VM VMXNET3 adapter?

    How to off the virtual machine to these settings?

    Thanks for your help!

    If you are connected to a distributed switch, they canned for this com.vmware.library.vc.networking.connectVmNicNumberToVirtualDistributedPortgroup action.  If this isn't a vds connect you to, then you need to change then it will have to be slightly modified to use normal NIC instead of vds support.  You will also need to add these lines to the device configuration section:

    devicespec. Device.connectable = new VcVirtualDeviceConnectInfo();

    devicespec. Device.connectable.Connected = true;

    devicespec.device.connectable.startConnected = true;

    I copied this action and added these 3 lines to achieve what it looks like you are trying to do.  We don't really use standard switches in our environment.
