    Hello

I just hope someone can explain source of default icons on the start menu in windows 7. NOT all PROGRAMS MENU but just START :-)

I know that I can pin itmes him etc... purpose what I wondered, is how windows know which items to always be listed as soon as a user clicks start. Do not start and then all programs. I know that to get something else listed in the start menu, all programs, all I have to do is add the item in the menu c:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start but this isn't what I want. I want to use to display a specific item by simply clicking Start.

From now for all users when they click Start they see magnifying glass, paint, fax, scan, reminder, connect you to a projector and started my is so... where question not windows this information from and how do I add to it for all users and not only one. I know how to do for a single individual.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, it's only for an individual options on the start menu. I tried to see if the same options exist somewhere else to affect all users, but to no avail.

I think I have to be stuck with the update in the directory that I listed above and they will have to click on start, all programs instead of just starting.

But more ideas are appreciated :-)

  • Missing programs on the start menu in vista

One day, that all my files and programs have disappeared. I don't know how it happened. I have since went into Control Panel and not hidden my files. I also went to program files such as Microsoft Office and files from other programs and caught those as well, but do not reveal the program files. My programs appear under install or uninstall programs on the control panel. When I tried to reinstall a program that already existed it would not do because it already existed.

Needless to say, that I am at a standstill and I don't know where to go from here. A virus would do that? Both the start-up and administrative areas have said empty. I was able to install internet programs and my printer is now visible. Any ideas? My files such as word, excel, and PowerPoint open good however.

  • missing to stop options from the start menu

Can someone please tell me how to get all the options on the start menu to close it has changed over the past week and shows just the icon arrow where I can choose only log off or lock and locking. to stop, I have to wait for th computer to disconnect and then when the screen saver appears click on the close button.

When I use to close before that I would have the standby key who showed during updates would be installed before the computer turns off. This has disappeared and now I only have a lock icon and the arrow which only gives me the option to log on to the wide or lock. all other options have disappeared for some reason that I'm not able to choose to change username, stop hibernate sleep etc.

How can I get all the options back a place hostel instead of having to wait for the newspaper off the power, then clicking on stop because I forget to close it because I think it is soing it automatically?

  • By clicking on an elements of the taskbar (or on the Start Menu) ask me each time if I really want to open this file. How to stop this?

When I click on the item to taskbar Windows 7 to Firefox (or on the Start Menu, too), he asks me each time if I really want to open this file:

    ... \ick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Mozilla Firefox.lnk

I say YES and it opens... until next time, when he asks again.

But a double click on the shortcut of Firefox on my desktop doesn't only!

I tried unpin and re-pinnning program without success.

I tried to create the pinning of the original exe or shortcut on the desktop or the StartMenu option.

All have them!  And it has worked perfectly well for years, but I had to reinstall FF today and now it goes.

How can I stop this annoying feature?

I found a column that actually addressed this and he said to go to the CMD prompt and enter:

    ICACLS '%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start start\program' /Setintegritylevel (OI) (CI) Medium

    Tried without success.

Another site told me to uncheck the box that says "ask before opening" but there is no such box on the pop-up.

Maybe because it's a .lnk instead of a .exe?  I do not know.

Please do not suggest that I use IE or Chrome instead.  I use IE much... but there are some things that Firefox is just the right solution for.

    Thank you!

    Hi MiloInSanDiego

The response of the creation of a new user account was because after the steps mentioned by Babu, you said in the post on Jan 3 that you get this message 'Do you want to allow the following program to make changes on this computer' like this could be due to the virus.

By creating a new user account, if there is a corruption of the profile by a virus, it will be there in the new profile. This is the reason for the creation of a new user profile.

If you are facing problems with Firefox, I suggest you to post the question in this forum for better support.

  • After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty.

After installing a program, the program on the start menu folder is empty. Here is my problem for the last 3 months, I got a problem with the installation of programs on my newest PC is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. After Installation the problem is that when I go to start and all programs folder menus and switch to this folder the last installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the program shows as empty folder. I can't run anything in the menu start all programs. Other small programs that I installed, I was able to start the program to find the exe to start and worked with it by starting the program example start.exe start. When I start sqlservr.exe manually from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL server\MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\Binn it comes up with a black screen and a small window which I don't know that I do not get the appropriate permissions on the files it needs to run. C: Program Files and c: data files have corrupted permissions or other files are corrupt is there a way to reset these permissions back to their original condition or what else is happening here? • Customize the "Programs" list in the start menu which will be held in the way I want

On the Start Menu, under the "All programs" list, I want to be able to organize where shortcuts are stored and how they are organized.  I found out how switch to Classic view and do the old-fashioned way.  That took me so far. To illustrate, I don't want the set of displayed utilities kitchen sink.  This is absurd.  So I created folders that go something like this: Office-graphic tools, security tools, tools of money, Web tools, tools, etc.  Then the first time I put for example, Adobe Reader 8 under Web tools. I put Norton under Tools-security, etc.  This means that I don't have to sort through a Visual equivalent of a pile of linen on the floor to find what I need.  It is logically. (When I was finished, I went back in the menu "Classic start", in the Vista Start menu).  It was working fine.

But that is the problem.  Classics view let me do it once, but now that I've updated programs, like I did just for Adobe Reader 9, he puts the shortcut at the top of the list, and he won't let me not drag in the folder I want, or customize any other way.  (Why not?  Users should be able to easily organize their own computer screen. For me, customization is not just by clicking on a list about whether or not he should display something. "It is to logically organize the way you want).  When I return to the classic menu, it does not show the Adobe Reader 9, or some of the other utilties that have been added to the list of programs and to show up when I go to "All programs" but are not where when I return to the option of classic menu-customize-Advanced to customize folders.

Please advise me on how to customize the display, ideally in the version of Vista's Start Menu, instead of having to go back to the classic view, which now does not display the new shortcuts.  Thank you.

    Hi ibydesign,

I know what you mean. Everyone has their own way of organizing and you should be able to logically group things where you want. Whose computer is anyway? There IS a way to organize your own stuff in Vista. If you right click on the button to start, then click on explore all users, it will open Windows Explorer in the (hidden) program data folder. Under Microsoft\Windows\Start Démarrer\Programmes you should see all the files and programs that you want to work with.
