Hide media, WMV files

I have 6 WMV files in my catalog with each an approx. 500 000 KB.  I recently moved my media cache files in Photoshop elements 14 (in preferences) to be stored on an external hard drive.  When I did this, it creates several files of each of the wmv files, now for a total of 154 GB.  Can someone help me with this please?

Yes, it worked.  My cache regenerated only when I clicked on the video on and does not duplicate itself.  Thank you!

  • Drive Windows Media (.wmv file) stored in the Temp folder

When I download a wmv file, I gives me the opportunity to open the file with Windows Media Player or save the file.  Lately, I've been open files in the player, assuming that, once they play, they are stored in my 'Temp' folder and empty when I delete the folder.  I was also unpin the link in the drop down WMP.  So it was quite a surprise when my hard drive available space began to decline at an alarming rate. When I went to my folder 'Users', it was 43GB and the single folder with any real content was music with 17 GB file. Do a search for wmv files have no results, so I can only assume that there are 26 GB of 'Phantom' wmv files take place, but without any specific place in the folder "users". Given that the "Users" folder is recreated at startup, I deleted all the content, the following prompts to keep files essential and lean record for its actual content to 17.5 GB.  Now I just save the file, manage downloads and delete the files when they are needed.  Is this standard protocol used for the Media Player or is it possible to change the settings of the player?  Thanks for the help.

First of all - the C:\Users folder should not be deleted like this - several functions of the operating system back up here and you will cause a corruption of just trying to delete it all like that.

Second - temporary storage of videos open depends on what browser you use. If you are using Internet Explorer, they are stored under C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache

    Chrome stores somewhere else.

To safely clean the files, use the built-in cleaning system program.  Press Windows + R to display the run box, type cleanmgr and click OK to start the cleaning Manager.

I suggest you to check if the hardware acceleration of the display device setting is too high.
    a. Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl and then click OK.

    b. click on the settings tab and then click Advanced.

    c. click the Troubleshooting tab, and then move the hardware acceleration to none.

    d. click on apply and then click OK twice.

    e. If the problem is resolved after you move the slider hardware acceleration to none, contact the manufacturer of the graphics adapter driver to determine if there is an update that resolves this specific problem.

    Method 2
The required codec is missing or damaged. If the problem occurs when you use a .wmv file, download or reinstall the latest version of Windows Media Player. If you use an earlier version of Windows Media Player, upgrade to the current version of Windows Media Player for your operating system.

  • Why my slow vista 11 load wmv files media player

It takes about 3-5 minites to load files. He plays very well once loaded.

even wmv files that I published with wmp take forever to load.

    Hello Lorraine.

I'd suggest a SFC scan to check for problems running:
"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"
Since Windows Media Player is a part of the operating system and cannot be uninstalled or re-installed, it's a good option to try.
  • Windows media player plays is not the wmv files

I installed a new version of AMD Catalyst Software Suite V 12.2.00 08/03/11 and immediately pinned the problem of not being able to run the MWV Media Player files.  The media player will turn green and the audio works well.  I guess that my old (2008) Dell Studio 540 Intel Core Quad 2.66 Hz machine is too slow for all graphical applications included in the CCC again.  I uninstalled the entire update and installed the driver more AMD V 8.950.0.0.  Rebooted and tried to execute a file on Media Player WMV.  The same problem.  I went back to a restore point, until the day before the installation of the new version of the Suite software Catalyst.  Then I rolled back to the previous driver V 8.920.0.0.  Does not solve the problem.

I finally ended up at this place where someone posted the same problem.  I went if the three methods that have been listed.
Method 1: Go to the Play-year-audio or video file FAQ
    Result: Nothing useful there.

Method 2: Re-save the file and check, it is that it works.
    Result: Panel received
    DllRegisterServer in successful wmvdecod.dll OK

Method 3: Change screen Resolution.  My procedure was different from that used by anyone trying to help the first user.  I'm running Windows Vista 64 - bit SP2.  I had to go through the display settings, advanced settings.  Click on change settings and I received the message: your current display driver does not allow changes need to be made to hardware acceleration settings.  I then clicked on the Troubleshooting tab and received the following panel;  Catalyst Control Center cannot be started.  Currently, there are no settings that can be configured using Catalyst Control Center.     No big surprise that I had uninstalled the CCC.  Should I reinstall again?

Having listed all the codecs on my machine, I have no idea what to do with them.  The only one that seems to apply is WMVideo Decoder DMO.

    My profile is:
Dell Studio 540 Intel Core Quad 9400 Hz 2.66 6 GB memory
    Vist Windows 64 - bit SP2
Dell E207WFR ATI Radeon HD 3400 Series

    Hello Nrbolton1,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers Forum.
    Try disabling UAC.
If the problem handles Disabling UAC uninstall all third-party plugins or codecs, sounds like a WMP plant where he has no administrator rights.

    How to turn off UAC?
Click Start > Control Panel > accounts user and family safety > user accounts > select your username > then click on change user account control settings and uncheck the box. Restart your computer for this setting to take effect.

Please post back with the results.

  • Windows Media Player 12 will not play mp4, mp3, wmv files through IIS hosted local site when the PC is disconnected from the Internet

I have an IIS Web site 6.1 on local 32-bit Windows 7 machine that serves HTML and MP4 videos via Internet Explorer on the local computer.  An internet connection is not necessary because it is all local storage and local accommodations through IIS.  IIS is configured to serve the MP4 videos in the form of downloadable files, don't not streaming somehow.  I have the right MIME type ".mp4" with the installation of "video/mp4" in the IIS server, so I don't think that's the problem.

When the machine is connected to the internet, by clicking on a video link MP4 in any HTML page served by the local IIS server results in Windows Media Player opening and playing the video in its own window.  However, when the Ethernet cable is unplugged, by clicking on the same results of video link MP4 in Windows Media Player by opening its own window, and then display this error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file.  If the file is on the Internet, connect to the Internet.  If the file is on a removable storage card, insert the storage card.

It's almost as if Windows Media Player has a bug and since it accesses this media file via a URL, but the machine is not connected to a network, he thinks that this file is unplayable.

When the Ethernet cable is disconnected, the local IIS server is still all the HTML code and ActiveX content except for media files.  I also tried to access MP3 and WMV files via the IIS server to see if Windows Media Player will open those when the computer is disconnected from the Internet.  These caused also Windows Media Player files display the same error message.

I tried the VLC (VideoLAN) Player after changing the property file in VLC of WMP for .mp4 files extension.  With VLC installed and the extension changed to VLS property, I can download/open the MP4 video using the link in the web page served by IIS all when they are disconnected from the internet.  The only thing I can't do is get VLC player to open and play the video simply by clicking on the link in Internet Explore web pages served by the local IIS server.

I would like to make use of Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player with this IIS server that serves the MP4 videos rather than using VLC player.

    Thank you

    Michael Rayman

I finally found the answer to my problem:

When they are disconnected from the internet, mysteriously, Windows Media Player 12 requires that you check a checkbox in tools > Options... > zone settings tab player called "Internet connection (ignore the other commands).  Once this box is checked and the settings saved on APPLY, then Windows Media Player 12 will play videos served by the local IIS server on the same machine, while disconnected from the Internet.

  • Player Windows media play wmv file

Whenever I try to play a wmv file it comes up with the error

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the required video codec is not installed on your computer"

It only happens with a certain file, and other files that are playing wmv files

    Why I get this error?

This specific file is may be damaged or it may be coded in slightly different ways that others were.

If you want, try to download and install a good codec pack which I use myself. It can help to solve your problem. Codecs are not exactly the nicest thing to tinker with, but this one I use myself and is very nice.

It is the link, download and install it if you want to and let us know what happens.
