Hide the Finder sidebar permanently

How do permanently hide you the sidebar Finder so that it does not appear in any Finder window? I'd be happy to be able to show when I want it, but not every time I opened a window.

Like many Mac users (and pros in particular) I constantly work with several windows open simultaneously and having several identical side bars, taking up real estate is certainly not desirable. Frankly, have to hit command-option-s, everytime I open a window is a hack.

When I press Command + Option + S to hide the sidebar, and I open a new Finder window, the sidebar is always hidden.  He returned in a new window until I chose to display it.  As far as I know however, there is no way to remove it permanently.  You can hide only, just like you can hide the sidebar in Safari.

  • The Finder sidebar does not match selected preferences.

I have a MacBook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.5, and lately the side bar of the Finder is not consistent with the selected preferences.  The sidebar lists only MacBook Pro, Macintosh HD and remote disc, even though I checked all the boxes available in the preferences.  The Finder is version 10.10.5.  Is it possible to download another copy of Finder?

Looks like a wobbly preference in Preferences, only not to be redundant.

Go to your 'Go' menu entry Finder ~ / library. Then go to the preferences and trash folder these files:

    com Apple.Finder.plist

    com Apple.sidebarlists.plist

Then, restart or log in and again.

(You will have to reset some finder prefs the way you like them).

  • How to hide the sidebar with other files of Notes?

    OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

I am trying to read a PDF Acrobat Pro and take notes with Notes in my mac, side by side.

I would like to know how to hide the sidebar on the left of Notes, where are the names of the other file.

I don't want the files, I already went to 'View' and you click "hide files".

I can just see the writing of the Notes area while sharing the screen with the document I read in Acrobat Pro.

Looks like a basic feature which Apple or Adobe Acrobat Pro should have, but I can't seem to find it.

Looked for other solutions to the App Store, but what I've found is a bit expensive.

    I appreciate any assistance.

I asked that your thread moved to the El Capitan forum.
