  • Office sync with two Macs leads to duplicate the files/folders

    Hi all

I m using MacOS Sierra sync with desktop (and documents). Logged into my account, are two Macs (Air and a MB Pro). No I find in my iCloud drive a documents folder (it's good and the documents of the MB Air folder) and in this case a "Dokumente - MacBook Pro mg" folder which is the folder documents of my MB Pro (this is not so good). This isn't what I expected, I expected to have a documents folder which is identical on both machines. Does anyone know what I need to adjust to get things clear?

    Greetings from the Germany

    Mike

I posted an article that explains all this to http://www.quecheesoftware.com/iCloud.html . This is a downloadable PDF file.

Basically, you add to the folder Documents after activation of the synchronization of the files will be synchronized as you expect. But the files that were in your Documents on several Mac folders when you switch on for the first time on the synchronization will be placed in specific subfolders to your new folder of Documents iCloud Drive device. Apple apparently felt that he could not predict how each user would want their old files organized in the folder of Documents Drive iCloud, so Apple left to each user to reorganize the file later.

I have now moved all my own files on the first level of my folder of Documents Drive iCloud and trashed the duplicate of the other device-specific folder. Now, everything syncs between computers, as expected. I left the two subfolders of specific to the device in place, either two empty for now, in case in the future that I might want to keep some files associated with one of the devices - for example, the alias files do not work on the other Mac. They will always sync in another subfolder, but at least I know to use it only on their own device.

Apple certainly could have documented it better.

  • Move the apps into folders with the new IOS

I installed the latest IOS update on my iPhone 6s and I can't organize my apps in folders more. The old method after pressing applications until it stirs seems not longer apply. When I want the app for a x-amount of time it gives me the option to 'share', not move it to the folder I created in advance (with former IOS) for it.

How can I move my new apps into existing folders?

  • IMac, how to stop the white icon files when creating new folders?

Whenever I create a new folder, the folder contains these white icon files that end up getting deleted. Is there a way to prevent this?

    Thank you

If you create a new folder with the Finder, there is no hierarchy, you get a single empty, empty folder icon, if you create a new folder in the Terminal with the following syntax blue, there is hierarchy.

    # Do the new folder has with B folder it contains. And C in B and D in C files.

    $ mkdir Pei A, B, C, D

    # Just make folder a.

    $ mkdir A

Are you using a utility Finder replacement, or creating folders from an application or a script?

  • Could someone tell me how to stop the folders and icons rearrange themselves

Before I updated to El Capitan I could arrange the files on my desktop or in any folder in the finder, in order that, I opened I wanted and they would REMAIN THAT of the WAY. Now, folders and icons in the folders reorganize themselves, usually in alphabetical order, each time that I add, delete, or move something in a folder. This causes a serious pain for me and make my extremely inefficient workflow.

I managed to stop the folders on my desk of reorganization by going to view > options > sort by selecting: None (thanks Mac forum) and I can do this in a folder if I want to rearrange things myself, but I seem to need to do this individually for every single folder and there is no guarantee that the next time I turn on my computer it will be always in that order. El Capitan before I could move my files manually on my desk and in a folder and if things got a little messy, or I wanted to start, I simply chose sort > by name and everything would be perfectly back to alphabetical, as a grid, on the right side of my screen, or in a grid at the top of a file. AND... If I wanted to manually move a folder or icon after sorting by name, I could still do it, without having to go to tri: No. Now, if I say sort: None, which seems to be the only way to manually sort the icons or folders, all of a sudden my own grid of files are everywhere in my office or mixed into a folder, unlike before where they would simply stay in a grid in alphabetical order, making it much easier to find things when manually reorganize. In my workflow, I need to be able to fix things and make them stay there, then, how do it works as before. Is could someone please tell me if there is a simple way to get things to work like they used to, when the only time where my files or icons arranged themselves was when I SAID to THEM, keeping in mind I'm not that computer, so if it's code, or go beyond the preferences or settings , you've lost me.

Click on the desktop, command J > sort by none

  • iCloud Desktop Drive and Documents folders

Just updated to Sierra and thought, it would be a nice feature to be able to back up desktop and Documents folders to iCloud. However, this isn't really what he does... Instead it moves to your desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive. Using your desktop and Documents folders disappear favorites. Likely, it erases the hard disk space, but this isn't what I wanted. I wanted to work on my files on my hard drive and for these to be synchronized / mirror in iCloud. As I don't do real work on the files in these folders on any other device than my MacBook Pro, having these files available by other devices was not important to me.

    Now my questions are:

    (1) Will Time still Machine back up these two folders which are now in the cloud?

    (2) if I want to recover these files on my hard drive (my computer > users > user My > Documents/Desktop), what is the best way to proceed?

    (3) is there a clever way to use iCloud in the way I intended?

    Hello tormod v.,

Thank you for your question about iCloud Drive and Sierra here in Apple Support communities. I understand how iCloud is important, and how the features can sometimes confusing, especially when things like the new macOS Sierra and iCloud combing Drive.

The first thing we want to make sure is that all your data is safe. You can perform a backup using Time Machine and an external hard drive. Some people recommend an external hard drive twice the size of your internal hard drive, because finally he fills with the backups, but as long as you have a car large enough to store all the data currently on your Mac that will suffice. Use this article to help make a backup of your Mac: use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac. To answer your first question, now that these files and folders are in iCloud drive, those who will be saved differently and separate Time machine. To do this, please open this help article: Archive or make copies of your data to iCloud under the first section, titled 'the Documents and files of the iCloud drive '. You will need to download them to the computer again and then make a Time Machine backup, display instructions.

To get these files on your desktop, go ahead and disable the function of the iCloud drive option in system preferences. Then, after the warning, go ahead and drag and drop your iCloud Drive, return to your computers local documents files and/or folders of office. Move this disk to iCloud files and put them on your computer.

You last question has been answered by yourself and the article I post above to make an archive or copies of your data to iCloud. iCloud and iCloud drive aren't backups. Yes, you can make backups of iOS and save them in iCloud, but to perform a live backup of all your files and folders, they must be located on the internal hard drive or external hard drive connected to your Mac, and that external hard drive is not excluded from backups in the preferences of Time Machine.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

  • Where is my photo folders?

My photo folders are gone, as is the 'images' option in the Finder.  How can I get my files back and held in their records?  The photos can be found under "My files" in the Finder, but they are all grouped together without all records.  When I click on one of them, their folder name and location developed along a section at the bottom of the interface of the Finder.  For me, which indicates that the information is still there.

    Can anyone help?

Have you opened your pictures folder and checked there?

  • I've just backed up with an external hard drive for the first time, but my profile with my folders for photos, documents, and movies are not there

    Hello

So, I finally got an external hard drive. I formatted for Mac (the device has been verified as being correct), and then he started to do a backup, which stated that a full backup would take 95GB. However, it only supported 19GB.  When I have my 'open' backup drive, I saw that only 'Macintosh HD' received support upward, not my user profile with all my folders containing documents, photos, movies, etc...

I'm quite confused, because I thought that it would save.  I plan on Snow Leopard update to El Capitan, but if something is wrong or I don't like, I'm afraid that I won't be able to restore all my personal files - but only the applications that are on my Macintosh HD.

Should I delete everything in my backup disk and try again?

This is an image of what's inside my external hard drive:

You have not indicated how you have saved, if you've used Time Machine then you do things the hard way and you'll find very difficult TM. Please use the Time Machine interface to locate your saved data. You can benefit from the research on:

  • Update of the absent or invisible e-mails in personal folders from Sierra

My emails have disappeared from personal folders in Mail since macOS Sierra update from the previous version of El Capitan, indeed personal files themselves seem to be absent or invisible.

New e-mails that arrived later, for which I put rules in place to move the email to a subfolder in my personal files seem to re-create or reveal part of the hierarchy of folder necessary to reveal or recreate the destination magically subfolder AND reveal not only the new email but also all other emails which were previously contained in this file. However, enamel and her sisters in this subfolder are actually visible once I left and reopened the Mail App.

    Very weird.

Someone else had a similar problem and / or found a solution?

Installed Sierra (from Yosemite) Wednesday. First I noticed that my Mail signatures had disappeared. Called Apple's Support, first of all a failure, was transferred to an older person. Repaired permissions, restored from Time Machine - still do not work. Discovered yesterday that some of my mailbox folders were empty, some had old messages, but not recent. A vain another senior tech and reported it to the engineering team.

I have since discovered that the missing messages are there, but they are invisible in the boxes to the letters. When I do a keyword search, 'invisible' messages are returned in the search results (list as being in their appropriate folder), and I can read the full message of the search window. But if I open the file, it does not show.

Also, I read in the Inbox of messages disappear after I read the. Demented.

  • Albums Photos custom within folders disappeared after the update of the Sierra

Before the upgrade to Sierra, I had created a lot of albums for specific events (file > New Album...) in pictures and placed them in folders (file > new folder). After the upgrade, all these folders and albums are now missing from the sidebar, but when I use the search box I can find and see all associated. Without having to try and remember the names of all these albums, is there a way to restore the folders and albums on the left navigation pane?

Don't know what you are because albums and file transfer intact from 1.x to 2.0 Photos Photos - perhaps you should hover the mouse on the word albums in the sidebar and click on 'show' that appears on the right

  • Put the Apps into folders on iOS 10 or iPhone 7?

    Hello

When I hold the app so that it vibrates so I can drag to a folder rather that vibrate, it gives me an application drop-down options. I'm wanting to create folders and move applications in these cases is to say "work". How I make it work on iPhone iOS 10 or 7?

You are maybe too hard (touch 3D) pressing when you should do a long gentle press to get applications to start jiggling?

  • Folders of the iPhone for photos

All my photos were in a folder that is listed as all the pictures, as I assume that all are.  When I started to create folders and I put the pictures in there records, I deleted them folder all Photos so that they do not duplicate and take place on my phone. At this point, I started to notice those I delete in the folder all Photos disappeared folders that I had put them.  So my question is, should I stay in the photos folder all independently all the images? IF this is the case, what is the point of creating individual folders?

Yes, they must stay in the folder of pictures if you want on your device. Creating separate folders does not duplicate photos, it organizes just pictures in the folder of all the Photos in a different way.
