Homegroup icon randomly on my desk - virus?

I connected to my laptop not so long ago and noticed that there was an icon named "Homegroup" sitting on my office unannounced. I also noticed that it took more time than usual for all the icons on my desktop to appear. I have not downloaded anything it either for any icon appears on my desktop. The icon is a green ball surrounded by 3 small blue balls, swirling around him. I cannot move the icon of my office, cannot be deleted and cannot be moved to the trash. When I right click on it, I get a menu which reads:

Open
Change homegroup settings
Find the homegroup password
Start solving the problems of the homegroup
Share with devices
Create a shortcut
No option to remove or whatever it is. I never seen before icon so curious to know how it appeared, and it is potentially dangerous.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

OK, thanks for your response. Strangely, I restarted earlier of Windows and the icon disappeared as if by magic. As I mentioned previously, I couldn't remove it so don't know how it is removed from my office.

  • For Windows 7 homegroup icon

    Hello

So, I turned on my laptop today and saw that there is a new icon on my desktop.  It was for the residential group program.  I don't remember the icon being there just the night before when I went on my laptop.  I opened the program and left the group, but the icon still appears.

My main concern is whether or not it is a virus.  My laptop does not work otherwise, but I am running a scan with Malwarebytes just in case.

If someone could tell me if it is a virus or not, would be great.  In addition, if it is not a virus is anyway to get rid of the icon?

I don't know if restore my computer to an earlier point would make a difference and I would avoid it if necessary so that any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

It is certainly not a virus.  There are a few situations where this may arrise, but to remove it, extract the solution posted here in the TechNet IT user forums: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/366b1b5d-e177-46be-84d1-9a7864a2725b/homegroup-icon?forum=w7itproui

Ignore them; hang up on them.

So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following

1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.

    2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other

    Hello

Anyone experienced this? Look at the screenshot...

A few days ago the phone app has changed, and even today, same thing happened with Chrome.

However, the original icons are shown in the app drawer...

Can anyone help? Someone from Motorola?

    Thank you!

Not sure why this has happened. You have installed all the apps again recently?

Fortunately, the icons appear correctly in the app drawer, you should be able to solve the problem by dragging icons broken in the trash and opening the drawer from the app and dragging long pressing the correct icons it to put in the appropriate place. Let us know if it works, and Yes if she stays like that or they revert to icons by default android?

  • The apple Software Update icon appeared on my desk.

Where coming, what do need me?

    Hi Pat,

You have installed iTunes or QuickTimes?  If so, you have installed Apple's products that may require updating.  If you do not quite trust the Update icon, and then delete and go to the Apple website and upgrade your software directly.  Sure, there may be other Apple products, you have installed, I don't know.  If you are concerned about the icon being some types of malware, then remove it and check your system for all Apple products that may require updating.  Then run a full scan with any security software you use just to be on the safe side.

I use Secunia PSI http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/ to maintain my software up to date and notify me when updates are available.  This is an additional layer of security because the new versions of software tend to be safest.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
