How a VLAN by vswitch

Just have a quick question.  Was curious to know if there is any type of limit (written or not) the number of VLAN assigned to any a vswitch?  Start to see weird things going around my network and I wonder if it is related at all.  Your comments and suggestions are welcome.  Thank you!

Hello

4K are available on a vSwitch... portgroup 4095 is all the VLANS.

  • How to see the VSwitch and PortGroup properties in the managed object browser

    Hello

We have a laboratory infrastructure VI3, with a VC and some ESX servers running.

In the managed object browser, I'd like to see the properties of certain objects,

    especially the VSwitches and exchanges.

How do I see VSwitch and exchanges from the CROWD. Here's my data:

    ESX IP address: 192.188.0.228

    VSwitch name: vSwitch0

    The port group name: VM_PG

I know that we can see these properties of Client VI, but I really want to see values

returned for each of the attributes defined in the WSDL file and the CROWD precisely

allows me to do. This will help me to do a bit on our end of modeling.

I tried, but I couldn't really vSwitch. Grateful if someone can give inputs.

    Thank you

    Try this:

    https://A.B.C.D/mob/?moid=ha-host&doPath=config.network

and more precisely which lists out them the portgroup and vSwitches

  • How to view the vswitch on ESXI 6.0 mac address table?

    Hello!

Is there any medium vswitch to view for all (or special) mac address table CLI?

It is very useful in troubleshooting scenarios, but I can't find how to do it.

    Thanks in advance!

ESXi virtual switches are not manageable switches.

You can query to switch using the vSphere API, see this - http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2011/05/how-to-query-for-macs-on-internal.html

  • vMotion VLAN\Distributed vSwitch Networking question

I am facing a strange problem and was hoping someone might be able to enlighten. I have a vCenter cluster that contains 5 hosts. Four of the guests standard vSwitches and a host uses a distributed vSwitch. The four hosts who use standard vSwitches have a NETWORK card dedicated for vMotion network. The only host that uses the vSwitch distrubted has two NICS in a team. I followed the instructions listed here to set up the configuration (http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2007467)

Three standard vSwitch hosts are able to ping to the active IP address for the host by using the distributed vSwitch while one of the hosts using a standard vSwitch is unable to ping the host by using the distributed vSwitch.

If it was a problem with the distributed vSwitch or etherchannel configured on the Cisco switch for the collection of NETWORK adapters, I think that none of the other guests could ping the IP address, but they can. I also confirmed that the vMotion VLAN is configured on all Cisco switches and is to be shared between all hosts resources.

I am at a loss to explain why a host is unable to communicate with the host distributed vSwitch on the VLAN of vMotion. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

The problem I was experiencing was due to an incorrect configuration. After talking with a technician from VMWare, he explained to me that you should not use a configuration of etherchannel on the switch that connects to NICs hosts vMotion. The reason relates to the policy associated with the map NETWORK load balancing team.

For etherchannel configuration work, politics of load balancing for the NIC team must be defined, 'route based on IP hash. You are not able to use this strategy to load with vMotion NIC team balancing. The policy load balancing for a correct vMotion NIC team would be 'road based on the original virtual port code '. This is because a NETWORK adapter is active while the other is standby.

After removing the switch etherchannel configuration and redo my setup according to the above referenced article, guests may communicate on the network of vMotion of appropriately. I asked VMWare technology if there is no indication as to why the three hosts were working while we were not. He did not have an answer and is surprised that these other three hosts were working with the configuration I had initially.

  • How to create a vSwitch for separate subnet

I have a vSwitch that is configured for management and my vm port groups. This vSwitch is on the 192.168.5.x subnet. I want to welcome a few vm on a subnet of 172.16.30.x. I created a second vSwitch for it and selected the option port of vm group during the creation of the switch, but I was not able to assign an IP address for the network card. I then deleted and recreated the vSwitch using an option of VKernel and it allowed me to add an IP address. What is the correct way to do this?

I thought that the vKernel was only for vMotion, storage, management, and fault tolerance. I do not use a vlan. What is the correct way to do the above?

    Thank you

Create a new vSwitch with virtual machine port group and connect uplink with vSwitch and assign different subnet to the virtual machine ip address and it is not necessary to assign the ip address to physical NIC and one more thing, even you can do it on the same vSwitch old also.

  • Number of groups of ports and VLANs by vSwitch

    Hi all

I'm looking for any insight or best practices in what concerns the number of VLANs that are ongoing to shared resources on a vSwitch.  Our ESX servers, there are 6 physical network adapters associated with (using the property intellectual hash).  These cards are the uplinks to the vSwitch which provides the virtual machine networks.   We use VLAN Tagging (VST) and created groups of ports for each Vlan ID.  Until now, we have about 7 groups of ports for 7 different VLAN.     I know the max is 512, but are there aspects to add several groups / VLAN port that I'm missing?  (We use vSphere 4.1)

    Thank you...

Groups of ports by vCenter limit is 5000, but you do not sound as it reaches.

Really, for the number, you have (7) you are a pretty small network as much as standard implementations are going, and you'll be fine.

I don't think it is interesting to look at if you really expect to be using all six ports - it is rare for aggregation in order to get increases in actual performance beyond two, and often 'more' is not better.

LACP changes things a bit, but it does not apply to many environments.

  • How create VLAN (12,14,15) on switch S5000 and it should communicate with all the VLANS?

I have a server blade and s5000 620 switch (16 servers with NIC 10gig), I want to create three different VLAN's (12--> 192.168.12.1,15--> 192.168.15.1,192.168.8.1) and I want to assign VALN ip to the Server Blade, please help me on this configuration

Here is an article that guides you through the controls to create a VLAN and assign an interface to this VLAN.

  • How to configure vSwitch distributed for EQL MPIO?

I read the guide of Dell for the vswitch for EQL configuration. However, it is assumed that DVswitch is not used. Does anyone have guide how do for distributed vswitch?

What version of ESX?   MEM 1.1.x can create the configuration and it supports the VDS.

Refer to TR1074 MEM 1.1. install the report tech for more information.

In addition, TR1075 the configuration of vSphere guide has instructions on Configuration vDS.  So I'm not sure which document you were using.

What 10GbE and 1GbE?    If you have distinct physical maps, I would still use a standard vSwitch on vDS.   Not really convinced that there is an advantage.

  • Configuration of VLAN Switch Distributed

    Hello

This a configuration problem and I'm not really sure how to set it up.

I created a distributed switch, and ESXi1 and ESXi2 are members. I created a comeback portgroup named A_01 and is a member of the VLAN 101.

    I created a virtual XP1 machine in ESXi1 located in A_01 and I created a VM XP2 on ESXi2 located in A_01.

    They do not communicate.

I have a switch between them and the uplink for the distributed switch of ESXi1 is connected to port1 and ESXi2 uplink is connected to port2

    I have 'tag' port1 and port2 in vlan 101.

    They do not communicate.

I have both change the network of the VM XP1 and XP2 VM a portgroup with no VLAN they communicate.

    What I am doing wrong.

    Thank you!

"I have both change the XP1 XP2 VM VM network in a portgroup with no VLAN they communicate."

--> its because your physical switch is configured as port access . Marking is done at the level of the physical switch. This is the expected behavior.

If you want to tag the VLAN level vSwitch, then you must put the physical switch as a trunk port and VLAN 101.

  • Handling VSwitch and network

Hi, I have have a question: How fact un Working VSwitch , If two virtual machines to communicate between them. If the data on the network is sent to the NIC and then the material or communication is managed in the VSwitch?

    Greetings from the Germany!

    Michael Burkhardt

If virtual machines are on the same vSwitch and VLAN traffic is not struck the physical network adapter.  If virtual machines have been on different vSwitches, traffic would hit the physical network.  Even if the virtual machines are on different VLAN traffic would pass through your router.

  • Deployment of VM to a model with isolated network (community VLAN)

We have a 5.5 ESX with vCenter and a lot of users who have access to templates via vSphere client. Users without administrator privileges.

    The main idea:

    (1) user deploys a VM from a template

    (2) ESX automatically personalize VM by creating new community VLAN or vSwitch

    (3) this not from inside the virtual machine (e.g. not via PowerCLI inside the VM) because its not secure (Administrator password will be required)

    (4) Each VM triggers deploying another vm (a group of VM) which must also be isolated from external traffic and other VMs on the network

    Is this possible without PowerCLI?

VCloud Director or VCAC driving POSSIBLE that, if you have licenses to more cloud.
