How can I load bootmgr.exe to Windows XP Pro SP3?

original title: HOW DO I LOAD BOOTMGR.exe to XP PRO SP3?

I JUST PURCASED a REFURBISHED HP COMPAQ 6510 b NOTEBOOK W/XP PRO SP3 OS. MS WROTE THAT I CAN USE THE SAME OPERATING SYSTEM ON A DIFFERENT HARD DISK

ON THE SAME COMPUTER... WHO USES A 80 GB HARD DRIVE AS WELL? I FORMATTED A SEAGATE 250 GB NTFS T0. WHEN I TRY TO RUN AN INSTALLATION

WITH the NEW INSTALLED IN 6510 b BUT HARD drive I GET a MESSAGE of ERROR "does not RECOGNIZE THE HARD DRIVE". I MADE A COPY WITH THE SEAGATE IN A

OUTSIDE OF USB HARD DRIVE ENCLOSURE, BUT WHEN I REINSTALL IT AGAIN IN THE HP AND TRY TO RUN A REPAIR WITH THE SOFTWARE, I GET THE ERROR

"NO BOOTMGR."

ANY SAGE WISDOM ABOUT THE ERR OF MY WAYS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Is the drive recognized / seen in the BIOS as 250 GB?

Also Hard drive test - CD Bootable:
Ranging from 5 to 20% (depending on the manufacturing) new hard disks are defective. Test your drive with the factory utility. If you have a new hard drive Seagate the very next thing would be to download Seagate Seatools (bootable CD) and check bad sectors:

  • Pro Media Center of Windows 8 license is not triggered. How can I make it back to Windows 8 Pro license

I received a free upgrade license for Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, at the time where they offered.

I have not noticed that the license is good if active before a date which has since long (a few times in February). The license has been accepted at the entrance and the Media Center software installed, when I went to add new features to Windows 8 (I had already updated the machine to Windows 8 Pro.

In fact, I don't want to buy the upgrade at this point. How can I make the license back to the old key... which of course, now I can't see.  I bought several upgrades, and you have not installed all, so I don't know how many of those I've not used on other machines upgrade is the one I used on this one.

    Thank you

    THANKS, 53 TAXI DRIVER

If you have access to the old computer, you can tell.  If you have a folder named Program files (x 86) yours is 64-bit.  If this isn't the case, 32.

If you do not have access to the old operating system you can just install 32-bit (except if you had 4 gigabytes of ram or more) for the sake of compatibility

  • files and folders: How can I load all my files and folders to my new account of my external hard drive?

Who can help, I just put a new account on my computer and deleted the old account. I backed up the old files on my external hard drive. I want to know is how can I load all my files and folders to my new account of my external hard drive? I thank you for your time and knowledge have a very nice evening, Shawn

Because it's a new account (even if with the same name), the restore procedure is unable to put files and folders in the same place, they came (because this place technically no longer - if yes, then the process is done and the transfer is complete). It can create a set of separate files (maybe even under a new user name, if it has been stored in this way).  If so, all you need to do is copy the data as you would copy any other files and folders (not the main files of the user profile themselves but the data in them) on the new files in your user account and who will take care of the transfer. Here is more information about the restore procedure which may help you in the process.

Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right.  It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.

This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course.  But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.  It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.

Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

I also found the following (but don't know if it of true or not):

    1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."

    2. I chose "Advanced Restore"

    3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.

4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.

    5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »

    6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue

    7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.

    8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."

    9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup (Yes... even if he said that thebackup location is not available " ")

    10. and you press "next".

    11 guess what... no error!

    12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.

    13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.

    14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)

I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 upgrade copy corresponds to?

A few years back, one of my friends gave me his old computer running Windows 7.  I just had to replace the motherboard and processor on it, and when I went to reinstall Windows, I learned that the CD Win7 key he had corresponded to a Windows 7 upgrade version.  From what I could tell, I need to install an older version of Windows first, and then use the upgrade CD to return to Win7.  I installed Windows XP Home Edition and I tried, but the CD Win7 said that I had the wrong version of Windows to upgrade.  I installed Windows Vista and got the same thing.  How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 update of that CD will modernize?

    Thank you!

Looks like the copy of Windows 7, you were trying to install from Windows XP Home Edition is a 64-bit version.

You will need to boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:
    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

There is no application iPlayer but the site works. You can listen to (but not download for later).

PS: you should contact the BBC to request an app store of windows for the iPlayer... Let them know you want it, and maybe if enough people do the same thing they will begin to pay more attention to the platform.
