config.sys

When I type in run: config.sys, I get a file not found error message

Windows XP does not use the config.sys file.

Why you try to open it?  There could be another way to do what you want.

  • Satellite Pro A60 does not start: missing or damaged config.sys

    Hello

I turned off my computer Friday, I went back to his Monday - and it won't start. I thought that the config.sys file is missing or damaged.

I tried all the usual methods - safe mode, last known good setting, OS etc, but none of it works. The computer does not recognize that the recovery CD is in the drive, either.

As I don't have an original installation CD - the computer was shipped with the software already installed - I can't try either.

I want especially to recover the entire system, but if I have to, I can live with that. Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Thank you very much.

Have you tried to boot your PC and press C after POST message? Recovery CD to be inserted.
This C command forces the laptop to boot from ODD first.

  • Satellite M115-S30394 - config.sys file is corrupt

    I bought a Satellite M115 S 30394 is about 2 years.
The first year he had 9 hard drives and Toshiba said they replaced the motherboard 2 times.

It still does not work and the senario is first a message that the config.sys file is corrupt and after correcting it will work for a few days, then a message appears that the hard drive is about to fail and he does it in 2 days.

I replaced because he couldn't be trusted in my company but I was wondering if someone has any ideas so that I can have as a spare.

    Thank you

    Hello

If you get the message that the HARD disk fails, then it s advisable to replace it.
But it s really strange question

In any case, I never had this problem on one of my notebooks, but I think you should test the notebook with a new HARD drive.

    Good luck

Config.sys is unlikely to be used on your computer. It cannot be read when using MS-DOS or Windows 3.1 programs (prior to 1995). It is not even important for most, but not all, of these old programs.

    Ignore it.

  • Corrupt Config\Sys

I get an error message "missing or damaged Config\System" on startup. I don't have a disc for a restoration? The computer company has no disks by their Web site. Anyone know what I can do?

To recover from this, you will need to restart your computer from a system bootable from a CD player.  My favorite system is free Linux Livecd as Knoppix or Ubuntu.  (If you choose Ubuntu, make sure that you choose the option "Try Me" so that you do not install it on your disk). Hiren's Boot CD is another choice.  Make you these disks by downloading a file .iso on another computer and use the option "Burn Image" of your CD burner to make a CD bootable from the file.

Once you boot from this CD, you follow the steps in the following article from part 2, step 6 (since you are using a bootable CD).  You will have to move, rename, and copy files using native methods according to your boot CD (IE right click copy, do a right click stick instead of using the "copy" command), but otherwise, follow the instructions in the article.

"How do I recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP startup"

You don't have to restart between parts 2 and 3 but will need to reboot and remove the CD before part 4.  You will find that this procedure essentially copy backups of your 5 registry of the \System Volume Information folder files in the directory that houses your registry files.  Linux live CD with no problems with security placed in this directory.

If this procedure success, your first step then would be to update your backups and then perform a check disk operation as hard disk is probably damaged.
