How can I move catalog PS elements Organizer (9) on an external drive?

I have little space on the laptop MacBook Pro retina, and I need to move this catalogue on an external drive. Not sure if the files are referenced or if they are in the folder with the catalog. If there are any files referenced, I need to move these to the external volume.

The Organizer stores its information in a catalog, it does not store your photos, as you correctly suggest.

1 - photo/media ("library") files are stored on your computer where you want on the inside or / and several external drives.

2 - the catalog itself is a folder containing the database and other assets of catalog as the cache thumbnails. By default, it's on your startup disk. Help found its place > information of the Organizer menu system.

3. you can copy or move all the folder where you want: links always corresponding to the actual location of the media files. However, if you move the files from your library outside of the Organizer, the links are not updated.

Based on these 3 principles that you can choose what suits best.

-If you want to free up space on your internal drive, you can move your 'library' totally or in part, to an external drive, provided that make you the gesture of the display of the records of your organiser (not from the finder). Who maintains the links updated.

-If you do it from the Finder, you will get "disconnected" files in your catalog and you would "reconnect" from the Catalog Manager (not easy).

-You can keep your catalog on the internal drive, its size may not be a problem.

-You might want to move your catalog where you want on the external hard drive. No problem to move the external drive. 'S done it with your Finder. In theory, the operating speed is lowest place, but the advantage is that you can share your catalog and library between two computers with the same version of the Organizer.

-The best and safest to move your catalogue and the library to the Organizer in a single operation is to use the process of "backup and restore":

Hi, I have "1720 smart hard drive detects imminent failure" made a backup, Gather I have to get another drive. How can I transfer my windows vista / files to new drive? Help, please.

    Hello

There are different ways to do

and these methods depend on your hard drive work

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning to move your operating system software from the old to the new drive hard If your old hard drive still works

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

link below is an example of this:

    http://www.Acronis.com/homecomputing/products/TrueImage/index.html

also to put your machine how you bought:

    1. If vista is preinstalled, you should have a recovery on your old hard drive partition

You can recovery disks to reinstall on your new drive hard If the old drive still works

ask the manufacturer of the machine how

    2. contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    3. or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • How can I move all my program files to a new hard drive?

    Hello!

I just bought a new 1 TB HDD and I want to be able to move all my program files and documents from my C: drive to my new hard drive...

You can move all your documents without problem, but not your
installed programs. This is because there are a lot of references, in the
Registry and elsewhere in \Windows, where programs are.

There are a few third party programs that can get to those
references and supposedly change them for you, but my experience
try these programs is that none of them are perfect and use one of
them is likely to create problems with some programs.

Therefore, it is best to reinstall programs.

  • How can I save a particular set of photos on an external drive. NEF files as well as everything I've done for them in Lightroom?

Apologies in advance if this is a dead-easy question or one that has been answered countless times in the past.

When I get back from a trip, I load all the photos of the trip in Lightroom, create a collection out of them, the best of the Pavilion, and treat them in the module 'development '. If I want to save these photos up to an external drive (most likely a USB key), I know that I can simply drag the. Files NAVE from the Finder to the drive icon, but who copies only the files raw, not the work I did on them in Lightroom. Is it a simple and direct way to choose a particular collection of photos into Lightroom and export it to an external drive, including the raw files and any relevant changes for them ('sidecar files"?)? Or do I need to do this in several steps, as by exporting this collection as a catalog separately by copying the raw files?

I realize that I could do a back-up Time Capsule of the whole machine - and I do on a regular basis, but I want to have quick access to a back-up of only pictures of a particular trip.

My installation includes Nikon cameras (so the ".") "NAVE" reference above), a fairly new iMac and Lightroom 5.7.

In its default configuration, Lightroom saves only the changes in the catalog. If you selected the option to save the changes to XMP so there will be files XMP sidecar to accompany each raw file that you worked on in Lightroom. If you have not activated this option, you can select all of the images and do a 'Save to File metadata"in the menu picture. Just be aware that these changes will be visible in other Adobe software. There isn't any method of writing changes directly in a raw file. But if you back up your files on a flashdrive and then make sure that you back up your catalog on a regular basis, you should be relatively safe.

  • How can I move the public folders default location to a new drive?

I'll put up a brand new machine with Windows 7 pre-installed and a big 500 GB hard drive.  I partitioned the drive into 2 logical drives C: and E:

Wherever possible I want to store all user data on E: (I know is not possible for all the parameters of the user to move - mores the pity).  I have not yet copied across all the data from my old machine so I just empty folders to play with at the moment.  I moved all the My Documents/pictures/etc files for the e: drive by changing the location in the properties of the folder.

However, I can't do the same with public folders.  If I right click on the folder, click Properties, then location, it's like I can't change C:\Users\Public\... but it does not change

No idea why, or how I can get around this?

This is possible thanks to a Directory junction that can redirect to a new location of the Public folder.

First create a new folder on E:\ and maybe you want to call it Public.

Go to Cmd prompt as administrator.

All copy existing public folders to the new folder created using the command
Robocopy /MIR %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public     (or any name that you used for public folders on E :)

You need robocopy as he takes care of hidden files, etc., especially if you have the recorded TV folder in public folders.

Once the copy is transferred, you must delete the existing public folder and create a junction in his place. To do this, boot into Safe Mode as an administrator and remove the public content and file inviting again by running Cmd as administrator. To remove the Public folder:

    RmDir /s /q %SYSTEMDRIVE%\Users\Public

After creating the new folder location and remove the existing public folder, now is time to create a Directory junction of audiences with the following folders:

Mklink /J %Systemdrive%\Users\Public E:\Public                         (or any name you named the folder opublic on E:\)

    for example: mklink /dC:\Users\Public E:\Public

Now, all that is intended for the original Public folder gets directed to the new location.
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I move specific files according to date to a new drive and recreate the folders that they were originally in?

I would like to take I have saved a search to sort by date and then move them to another drive and also preserve or recreate specific subfolders, in that they were originally of specific files. How do I do that? I found an and only a third party program which claims to work with the copy of the files and other. It is called "Copywhiz" but I don't think that it has this ability account required from what I've seen of him. I looked up information about the xcopy command, but his date setting allows only a specific date, not a date range. What is the best way to do it if possible? Otherwise I'll have to go through the TEDIOUS process of your time to copy all the folder and its subfolders to the other drive, looking all over again for a date range and delete these files and not in the range of dates, I want to be in the files in specific folders. I hope it is clear to you because I have no other way to explain. The specific details of the project are that I have a bunch of psd files in many subfolders based on the object. Of these files, I want those who are previous to the year 2009. I want to have the records that those displaced persons files were to be preserved in their new location. Essentially, I want to replicate the folder structure that only selected files to the new drive.

I could get this link to work, so I downloaded from http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/RoboCopy-Download-87790.html.

I tried it and it worked and it was relatively simple.  He did the directory and the structure of the subdirectories as well.

In my view, is the command you would use in command prompt:

ROBOCOPY sourcedirectory *.psd /E MINAGE:20081231 destinatiiondirectory

I think that's all there is to it.  It worked for me when I did something similar with all .doc files in the My Documents folder.

WOW!  It was fairly easy and well obviously the solution.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  • How can I increase the size of my partition on the C drive?

I am constantly running out of space on drive C, I have tons of space on my D drive partition. How can I move the partition to increase space on my C drive?

    Hello

By "tons" of space on your partition D:, what size does this mean?

D: partition, if 5-15GBs is normally the recovery partition, except on a few machines, and should not be bothered with.

Acer for example on the previous models used D: as a data partition, which is OK to change.

To extend C: into the space where D: is currently > back up data on D: > and then delete D: > D: becomes now allocated space > extend C: into the space where was D:.

Here is a tutorial on how to do it:

  • I just bought a new computer, and I just discovered I can't hover over 12 items from my old PC because the license was for a computer only. I just bought 14 items.  How can I move my pictures from my new PC with 14 elements Ele12?

I just bought a new computer, and I just discovered that I can't spend my version of 12 items from my old PC to my new PC because it came with a license for one computer only.  I bought 14 items today at the store.  How can I move all of my photos of 12 items on my old PC (which are all nicely filed), for my new PC in 14 elements?  I would appreciate any help with my question.  Thank you.

    Hello

You must make a backup of your catalog with items 12 and then restore using 14 items. A guide for the backup and restore are help from Elements Organizer | Back up or restore the catalogs.

  • My catalog is created in the right folder.  How can I move it?

When I was importing files that I have somehow created a catalog on my hard drive, and it does not recognize that I had already created on my external hard drive.  I want to use that on my exteranl drive, because that's what I use so I can move between my laptop and my desktop computer. How can I move files in lightroom?

It would seem that move the new catalog is NOT what you need.

    It seems to be

-import the data of the catalog wrong right (external drive) via the option "import the catalog.

    or

-throw the new catalog and import the images in the correct catalog on the external hard drive.

How can I move a picture of an event / time to another in the same album?

I am often confused about the difference between an event and a time.  Please forgive me if I'm using these terms incorrectly.

I, (pictures) selected, top left, it says, 'Moments' in the header at the top of the page.

I have 4 images in a row under "April 17, 2016" immediately below these 4 images, I have 1 image also under "April 17, 2016".»   With the good old iPhoto, I could simply drag the single image below, on the date above (with 4 images in a row), and that would give me 5 consecutive images.  Then, now empty it event / time would disappear.

Just trying to consolidate my images in a logical way for me.

    Thank you.

    You can not.

The library 'Photos' and 'Pictures' albums are automatically organized function import or taken the place and date.

In the Photos, the equivalents of iPhoto events albums. This is where you can organize your images as you wish.
