How can I play mpeg-4 files with Windows Media Player 11 on my PC - XP SP3

I downloaded a file from YouTube and I would like to play the video with Windows Media Player.  My PC is running XP service pack 3.  I downloaded and installed Windows Media Player Version 11.  The file is Shawn Woodman.mp4

Long answer... good luck...

The following decoder could be your problem but it's not freeware.

Personally I would remove the compatibility
questions and convert the files to the WMV MP4
format. One of the reasons being... If the files are shared
with anyone... they will encounter the same problems.

  • How can I play the audio stream with Windows Media Player 11 AAC?

    Hello

I want to listen to a live stream of a Shoutcast radio station which is in AAC format. I want to play with my Windows Media Player 11 on Windows XP SP3. I still don't play. It seems that it is not supported by WMP 11, but if missing a codec, it should be automatically downloaded from Microsoft, since the option "Download codecs automatically" is checked in the options of WMP, and my security level in Internet Options is set by default.

Y at - there a way or a codec plugin, so I can play the stream AAC on WMP 11?

    Thank you.

    Assem

Orban AAC/aacPlus Plugin will allow WMP 11 to play AAC streams. Note that you have to replace the http stream with icyx URL part, so to read your example AAC stream, you must enter icyx://109.234.157.154:2012 in WMP, via file - Open URL... • How can I access my music files through Windows Media Player?

    OK, here's the facts:
    I have Windows Vista.
Most of my music in my music is missing.
I can view and listen to the music of "missing" in Windows Media Player (library).
In Windows Media player, if I click on a song and 'open file location' need me for my music, and the file is not there.
Looking for songs via the start menu or through my computer does not work.
MP3 audio files are also missing.

Not having access to the original files, I can't add music files individually to my mp3 (Windows Media Player lets you synchronize files only, and I don't want to lose a part of the 'missing' files I have on my mp3 using the Sync feature).

How can I access my music? Clearly, it is still on my computer somewhere since I can play through Windows Media Player.

    Hello

Step 1: Check what all records are controlled by the player. Then check these records, if the music file is present.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/add-items-to-the-Windows-Media-Player-library

Step 2: View the folder hid

  • How can I import playlist .pla files to Windows Media Player?

I sync between my computer and my (old) mp3 a Philips something or other (I know if this is important). For some reason half of my playlists no longer appear on WMP. However, their corresponding .pla file is always on my mp3 player. I understand that .pla files are empty, but the link to the device and of course db under properties, I see that the pla files contain all the correct tracks. I want to restore these playlists on WMP. Please, is it possible to import these? I tried syncing my mp3 player to my computer by this is not not possible to drag and drop playlists.

Can you still see the missing playlists on your hard drive?

You can use Windows search to search for *.wpl and *.m3u, which should bring them up if they have not been deleted. In addition, please check the trash.

  • Unable to read the .avi files with Windows Media Player 11 on XP

Original title: Media player upgrade was worse than basic
I recently updated my Player multimedia media Player 11 and now it won't play movies from AVI file that I used to be able to play easily on the outdated version. Why is this?

    Hello

Do you have an error message when you try to play with Media Player AVI files?

When you try to play a file that uses a codec that is not installed on your computer, Windows Media Player attempts to download the codec from a Microsoft server. If the
Codec is available, the Windows Media Player installed on your computer, and then bed file. However, if the codec is not available on the server (for example, because)
the codec not created by Microsoft), Windows Media Player displays a message that your computer is missing a codec.

In some cases, the file you want to play uses a codec that is not available or compatible with Windows Media Player. When this happens, you may be unable to use Windows Media Player to play this particular .avi file.

You can consult this article for a solution:

  • Cannot play MPEG-4 video in Windows Media Player or Media Center from my Flip Video Camcorder

I use Win 7 with Windows Media Player 12 and when I try to play a Flip Video camcorder, which is an MPEG-4 format, I get the error "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem while playing the file."

I then help the option to select Web and it takes me a Microsoft page that describes the C00D11B1 error code.  Who has no sense to me because it speaks to my sound card and I can't read thie videos no problem via the Flip Video software supplied with the camcorder.

I was under the impression that WMP 12 taken supported MPEG-4.  Also get the Error tyring to play videos through Media Center.   Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I use Win 7 7600 version 6.1

I guess that the Flip Video software used a codec that is not Media Player. I was looking at the setting for the camera to see if it will save in another format.

May be that the video file format is not compatible with Windows Media Player.

    Options: -.

1] download and install VLC Player. It's free and supports file formats more than WMP.

2] download and install the codecs

Personally, I prefer VLC Player-if you have that then not need to download and install the codec of any third party.

    Files

I agree that he should have asked you which types to associate the files, but you should be able to re - join those you want with WMP just by right clicking on one of them in Windows Explorer and then selecting open with, choose default program & choosing WMP while checking that the box "always use this program...". "is defined [always, that's when even I think that].

[Open the dialog box can be a little misleading.]  [If WMP is not one of the choices available to you, look immediately under these choices & there is a small arrow down which will reveal many more choices including WMP].

You will need this procedure for each type of file you want to associate to WMP again.

    Discs

You will also need to go into Control Panel, Autoplay set discs to use WMP again.

  • Ignore certain types of files with Windows Media Player

When I'm in a hurry I get all the files in a folder and drag it to the Windows Media Player.  The files include the jpgs as album art.  When Windows Media Player encounters a file he doesn't know how to manage it up an error 'the Player Windows Media has encountered a problem reading the file'.

How to make Windows Media Player to ignore certain file types?

With a single click, you can sort files by type of file that would make easy is not to include them in your list of drag.
