How layer masks to be recorded separately to be reused on other photos?

I was watching a program of creating album that uses Photoshop as base and I noticed that it appears a selection of masks in a window under the photo... .quelquechose as a mini-Bridge, and here you can select different styles and masks etc. to apply to the image being edited.

I thought it's pretty clean, because some of the masks could be fairly universal, so I tried to create one and save them separately but in vain.

Then I created one, has taken a screenshot of it saved as a jpg file, then open that, selected all and tried to stick in a mask... .and still no go.

Then... . How are they doing that?

  • How to add (or subtract) a selection to a layer mask existing?

If I already have a layer mask, I have a selection, and I want to add that selection to the mask layer (I want the layer mask to reveal more), how can I do?

The way I would do it now (it's too long) is Ctrl + click on the layer mask, add to the selection I want to modify it with, except that the selection, remove the mask layer and create a new layer of the saved selection mask.

I don't know there must be an easier way. I Googled it and found no answer.

    Thank you!

Create your first hidden layer (1)

Click on the mask and draw your second selection to be marked (2)

Edition > fill and fill it white (3)

    Deselect the selection

It is difficult to tell with what you see. But reveal is black and white is hide, with gray as the variance of the two. He would not reveal the mask, he would reveal the lower layers. I guess that what you mean, but I added it for new users of reading this thread.

  • How to quickly fill a white w. layer mask black?

My adjustment layers are set to come with a white layer mask. But sometimes I want to fill this black mask w. After adjusting and selectively brush-in adjustment.

Y at - it a shortcut to quickly fill the mask w. black, w/o the colors of foreground/background checking; or by choosing some tools to be active; or editing > fill > black, etc. ? If this is not the case, how can I set my own keyboard shortcut? I don't see a black fill in the list of shortcut editing keyboard. Thank you.

  • How to create the layer mask using ellipse (circle) to show the face of the watch only?

just stuck - see how to get a job of layer mask using a brush, but can not get by with the help of an ellipse

    What I'm after is:

    * Start simple watch, with the face and band by photo

    * want to apply a layer, so the only thing I see the circular face of the watch (no tape etc.) and that the base is clear (alpha)

May I ask what are the instructions step by step to achieve this goal by using layer masks & ellipse tool?  (i.e. not having to manually paint around the dial)

    Here's the original image:

    1. Make a copy of the background and work on this copy of background layer.
    2. Use the elliptical selection tool, hold down the SHIFT key to draw a circular selection:
    3. Select use (on the menu bar)... Transform the selection to move the selection, and drag the sides of the selection at the edges of the dial:
    4. After you click the green check mark, use the selection... Inverse to select all items except the dial of the watch and press your delete key to remove such things:
    5. Your layers look like this:

Alternatively, if you want to use a mask, after step #3 hit the icon 'Mask' at the bottom of the Palette layers to create a mask layer automatically by using the selection:

  • Copy a texture in a layer mask... How?

This issue has been plaguing me for years and I thought I'd come and finally to remove once and for all that itch.

    See this picture? http://fc05.deviantart.NET/FS42/f/2009/072/7/0/Grunge_Texture_by_skeelar_stock.jpg

Say I want to use it as on a specific layer opacity mask, or a specific group of layers. How can I do?

I mean, I know I can select with the wand and then add a layer mask in the form of what I chose, but transparency/alpha information will be deleted. Parts of the mask will be transparent or opaque.

Copy of a layer with gradients - as one of a worn paper texture - in a layer mask is something that I was not able to do. But I'm sure it's possible, because masks can do different levels of alpha very well (they would be quite useless if they do not have).

Select all, copy (or copy merged if you have several layers) in the file that you want to make a mask. Go to the image that you want to add to the mask. Select the layer you want to hide. Create a layer mask. Make sure that this mask is active in alt-clicking above. Dough.

  • How can I create a rectangle on a layer mask?

If I choose the layer mask and the retangle tool. PS always create a new layer.

I suppose you create a rectangle with the Rectangle tool, instead use the rectangle selection tool, m on the keyboard and fill with black, gray or white with your selected layer mask.

  • How to make a layer mask to type in CC?

I am after this Tutorial: Photoshop: professional cleaning Logo - YouTube and can not find a way to make the mask layer type thing that makes the background show through. I know that the tutorial is for CS6, but they should be the same, right?

The layer mask is the same for CS6 & CC. There are several ways to do so. But the video showed him using the masking of the text tool. It uses the quick mask to make the text - where the color pink. You can size your text by holding down the ctrl/cmd key to appear of the transformation handles. Once you are happy with the size of the text, click on the checkbox validate or ctrl/cmd + enter to change quick mask in a selection. The video then shows the selection used to create a mask on a layer. To invert the mask, and punch through the layer text to show the blue below, the opt/alt key has been pressed while the mask icon has been selected in the layers panel.

  • How to view the alpha channel of the layer mask in the layers palette?

    Help out me people CIHI...
CS5 using - in the past, when I added a layer to a layer mask, it would appear in the palette as the alpha channel, which was very convenient. Now, when I add a layer mask, it appears only as the icon of mask; that is, square gray with a white circle in the middle. I have no idea what I did to go from one to the other, but I'd like to return the alpha representation!

    TIA,

    Toby

Looks like you have set the layers panel to "no thumbnails. Right-click on a layer thumbnail (not a mask thumbnail) other than the bottom to see the thumbnails options.

  • How can I change the opacity of the layer mask?

    HI -.

I used a layer mask to hide portions of a picture.

Now I need to leave this hidden part of show at, say, 50% opacity (I'll have to experiment to find the optimal percentage.).

I'd like to screw up the layer mask and start on another.  Already, I thought I could duplicate the masked layer, remove the mask on the copy and set its opacity to 50% but now I have 2 layers.  I suspect that there is a way to do without a double layer.

Is it possible to adjust the opacity of the layer mask?

    TIA your entry

    JL

Have you tried to use the controls in the masks palette?

You control the opacity of the area exposed with the opacity of the layer and the density of the hidden box with the density on the masks palette slider.

  • Layer masks and blending modes

I read on the layer blending modes in Photoshop CS6: The Missing Manual, p.121.  They talk about setting exposure using the blending modes, and they show how to darken an image by using the following procedure.  (1) activate a layer, (2) create a mask of levels, (3) the blending mode of the layer to multiply the value.

My impression is that blending modes change how the pixels on one level interact with the pixels on the next lower level; that is, it implies there are at least two layers of the image.  So I'm not surprised that if I have a single layer without a mask and I change the blending mode from normal to multiply, it is without effect, probably because there is no immediately lower level to allow interaction.  However, if I have a single layer and create a layer mask, then changing the blending mode from normal to multiply darken the image.  That must involve the pixels of the layer are interacting with transparent pixels on the mask.  What?

Can someone explain what is happening in reality not here?

Use layer blending modes, you need to the two layers less.

    As you mentioned above:

'(1) activate a layer, (2) create a mask of levels, (3) the blending mode of the layer to multiply the value'

step 2 means create a levels adjustment layer that comes with a default mask if you want to make local adjustments.

in this case, if you have a layer and add an adjustment layer, it works as if you duplicate the layer.
