How to backup without time machine

Want to MacPro Lion 10.7.5 backup using a usb flash drive.  Do not use time machine. Where should I start?

If you are going to only be backup the contents of your home folder and installed applications drag, you can drag - copy for the backup volume. Do this for all applications and certain elements of your home folder requires the backup volume to be in Mac OS Extended format.

If you're going to be back up the entire system, use the disk utility's restore function or a product such as Carbon Copy Cloner.

Hi, I have a 3 TB Time Capsule. My macbook uses all the 3 TB for backups. I would like to limit the size of the Time Machine backups to 1.5 TB and use the rest for my own files. Is there any setting or application in App Store to limit the size of the backups?

Unfortunately no, if you ask on the backup using Time Machine.

It is not officially supported by Apple, but you may be able to change the size of the space allowed for a backup by using this trick:

  • Restore Safari bookmarks without time-Machine?

    Hello, all the

Out of nowhere, one of my main folders Safari bookmarks disappeared. I'm a fairly knowledgeable Mac user and have no idea how they were deleted.

I do usually external manual backups readers when I did some import an audio works and not very often otherwise (if I don't have a backup from a few months ago) but I added several important bookmarks since it went past 'poof '. It is also a way of saying that I have never set up Time Machine.

So, how can I restore my bookmark.plist over current (tonight) without Time Machine. I know that Firefox - when I used to use it - kept many old .plists and you could scroll just to find later. It seems that Safari would keep much as well even without Time Machine configuration. At least I hope so.

    Thank you

Is the .plist bookmark empty or missing?

If lack then a drive recovery application can be able of recovering them.

If it is empty while you are out of luck

  • 150:30 of error after you restore the backup CS4 Time Machine

I bought a new Imac with OS X Maverick and put in place by using a backup from time machine. My Adobe CS4 now has a problem with the license and shows me the error: 150:30?

I have to uninstall and reinstall CS4? Is there an easy solution to this problem?

    Thanks to everyone for help.

    Chris

I have to uninstall and reinstall CS4?

    Unfortunately Yes.

Also run the cleanup tool before reinstalling

Use the CC cleaning tool to resolve installation problems. CC, CS3 - CS6

Restoring backups Time Machine invariably breaks the activation mechanism (error 150:30) and there is no easy way to correct an error of 150:30 otherwise than by the re-installation.

  • How to backup Mac without Time Machine that is erasing external hard drive?

    Hello

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. Only got 1 external hard drive and 80% busy, I can't really destroy the entire disk to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

Thank you very much for the help!

If you have more data on your MBA to amount of available space on your external HARD drive, you will need to:

1 remove data to the external HARD drive to make room.

2 delete the data on the MBA.

    3 a combination of 1 and 2.

    4. use another external HARD drive.

    Ciao.

  • How much space for Time Machine backups

    Hello

Is there a rule for how much space you may want to allow for Time Machine backups?

I would like to partition the drive to have a room reserved for Time Machine back ups only.  I realize that it is a personal preference.

Each individual backup occupies approximately 790 GB.  But somehow I have 6 months of backups that supposedly take up only 880 GB on the disk.

At this time the backups of my other drive back to 6 months in time.

Fortunately, I never had to go back a few more days to recover a file.

Is there a reasonable amount of space to allocate for backups, based on current usage of disk?

    Thank you

Minimum would, of course, the size of the internal drive.

    Double the quantity is sufficient

Triple the amount if you want a value years from TM backups

I am convinced that these are independent external drives from your main hard drive of Machines

  • Backup HD on the external hard drive with/without Time Machine backup

I use a drive external iomega hard so that I can save my Mac hard drive. I used the iomega to back up my old computer before and succeeded with just drag / drop the files I needed. I simply slipped fell the Mac HD icon in my iomega DHM and was able to open all the files inside. It made me skeptical however, if I would be able to open the icon Mac HD with all my files so it was on another mac. All information that I looked upwards on a hd on a disk external drive to backup talk using Time Machine, which I've never used, and was not sure if it's even necessary to use.

Here's what I mean by dragging my HD on the external hard drive.

It is not at all a backup. This is just a link to the internal drive. Is there a reason why you do not want to use Time Machine?

  • How can I make Time Machine backup to an external drive?

I have an external drive that I stay logged in all the time, and I want that she is saved with my hour of hard drive internal Machine. I found the setting "IncludedVolumeUUIDs" in Library/Preferences/com.appleTimeMachine.plist, but I can't change the permissions to modify.

Open the Time Machine system preferences pane, click Options, and remove it from the list if possible. Time Machine can't back up NTFS, FAT32 volumes and exFAT.

  • Backup Restore Time Machine does not see RAID external drive

    Hi all

I have a problem with my iMac restore from a Time Machine backup, and I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem already.

I had to reinstall OS X El Capitan from scratch, based on education, I received Support from Apple. That worked without problems and my iMac works fine. However, I wanted to restore it to how it was before, using Time Machine. I keep my backups on a LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2 and never had any problems with it.

To restore the system, I followed the instructions on the Support page. I restarted my system in recovery mode and selected the "restore from Time Machine backup". Unfortunately the LaCie 5big does not appear on the list of drives, so I'm stuck... When you use the system in normal mode, the external RAID is visible and Time Machine stores backups on it without any problem.

Any of you are familiar with this problem? I would be very grateful if you could help me with this problem!

    Kind regards

    Valerio

    Hello

-While the system is booted in recovery mode, confirm that the Lacie 5big network is visible in disk utility.   You will need to disconnect / reconnect the Thunderbolt cable to the Lacie 5big be detected.

-Once seen, a new attempt to restore from Time Machine backup.

    See you soon

  • 'No available backup disk', Time Machine is not more Time Capsule

I have a time Capsule 2 TB and it has been used by Time Machine for many months.

A few days ago the Capsule detached from his power and today is now connected to the new.

Time Machine reports the error "backup disc not available."

Time Capsule lights are green, AirPort Utility is showing this device being lit also.

Time Machine knows how much space is available on this unit. However, it is not able to use this device to register older backups or to create a new.

I don't see this device in the Finder, although I couldn't see him there when everything is working well.

Airport utility indicates an IP address for this device and I can ping.

What to do now? Isn't it at least possible to mount to access the files on it?

  • Photoshop and backup on time machine Photos

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro when I installed Photoshop Elements. I have a good collection of more than 17000 photos that are in the Organizer in Photoshop elements (photos Photoshop app organization). I also have thousands of other photographs in the iPhoto itself that are different from those of Photoshop.

I take a backup of my machine on an external hard drive through a Time machine. I want to know if the backup contains pictures located in the Photoshop elements Organizer. If so then if I need to reproduce these images on another computer I will be able to do. If the backup Time machine does not include pictures, so if I take how to.

The backup must include Organizer, except if you have excluded in System Preferences/Time Machine. Why not copy the Organizer existing to the other computer, rather than use Time Machine?

  • How can I PREVENT Time Machine back on the wake from sleep?

I leave my machine on the work week and when I finished the night, I SLEEP there.

In the morning, he has no need to backup first thing. But Time Machine insists on execution from the moment I have a mouse and he wakes up from his sleep.

It was fine when it was new and fast, but now he is old and slow (especially - but mostly because I really push to the limit with multiple Safari Windows opens and executes a large number of software design at the same time, I have to do for work).

    My question is simple:
    How to tell Time Machine to does not have a return on the wake from sleep? or;
    Say this do not back up from 06:00 to noon? or;
Is it a third party plug in that allows me to customize the time Machine more?

Another idea on what just said or it to no return for even the first hour or two when it comes in the morning or even in any time to sleep during the day. Automatically.

I also have my drive main external file mirroring AND use Super Duper once per day to fool the internal drive (I total plan control) AND back up all files off site (I total plan control). But, Time Machine is also always at hand to get it done. If only I had a little control over it, so she did not have the necessary step back up the minute I sit down. Significantly slow down my work time productive morning!

Time Machine really shouldn't bog down your machine that badly.

If Time machine running interferes with your ability to use the machine, then something else is wrong. It shouldn't affect performance in this way.

If it's all just "annoying"... Well... Why is this a big deal?

Maybe you should run a report Etrecheck and post the results here. If something is moving your system, which can help us identify what it is.
