How to boot from USB DVD Rom on Y500 with SLI?

I have problems starting a DVD from my laptop Y500 SLI. The DVD - RW rom is connected by USB and I do not see in the BIOS, but boot USB is enabled. Is it possible for a start of it on the y500 with sli? How? When I turn on the laptop that I can hear the cd loading, but it still goes to windows.

Hi September,.

Ishaan is correct since only today, I managed to get my hands on a Y500 to test. I have to admit that the Y500 is a great machine to own :-D

In any case, with regard to get this to work, you will need to go into BIOS.
To start the BIOS configuration utility:
1 turn off the computer.
2 press the Novo button (small button with the curved arrow, located next to the receptacle) and select Configuration of the BIOS.

> Go to the tab "BOOT".
> Under"Boot" change into "Legacy support".
> Press F10 and save the setting.
> Machine will restart and boot press F12
> When the boot menu appears, select desired boot.

Hope this helps and post your results.

    Hi @kvartsnorsk

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I know that you are looking for drivers for Windows XP, unfortunately, this laptop was not sold configured for this OS. Drivers are available for windows 7 and 8 (32 and 64 bit)

What happens if I do not see my operating system?

On the boot USB device, it is likely that your bootable usb image isn't UEFI, so you should enable legacy boot in the BIOS to allow boot off this device.

  • Boot from USB DVD on Lenovo X121e

Hi, any idea how to boot from a recovery disk from Lenovo for Windows 7 on a USB stick on DVD player? The laptop is running cannot run from the Linux operating system. The BIOS utility does not recognize the drive no matter what I select in the start menu (USB, CD, USB FDD or USB HDD) and the F12 boot utility also does not recognize the drive. Incidentally, F12 recognizes the Linux USB drive so I know it works. The external drive is a Leicke DVD R/RW DVD.

The reason for wanting to boot from the Windows 7 recovery drive is to reinstall Win 7 on a new installation, dual boot Linux (Mint), and then install iTunes on WIn 7so I can sync to my iPhone and run everything in Linux. I tried to use an emulator under Linux but unsucessfully Win.

I noticed that this question was asked IO a few years by another Member, but no resolution. Thanks, Nik

  • under win8.1, how to boot from a dvd using UEFI on a hp 700-109 c desire?

I installed a Kingston ssd 120 GB in the 700-109 c and you want to use clone drive ACRONIS to reduce proportionally the 2T dirve to the win8.1 120 GB and boot from there.  I can't activate the legacy in BIOS support because the software warns UEFI to boot from the disk of destination after the migration, must be enabled before we start the cloning process.   However, I am not able to boot from the dvd Kingston (ACRONIS) with secure boot UEFI active.  How do I proceed?

    Hello

Cloning of the HD under Windows 8 is sometimes problematic. You must disable Secure Boot and turn on legacy mode. Your PC should reboot. I can boot Windows 8 as well in Legacy and UEFI mode with my HP laptop that the use of Windows 8.

As a side note, usually with UEFI, you will need to insert the CD, and then the PC power cycle for UEFI to recognize an eligible UEFI device such as a CD or USB flash.

A problem you will encounter is that the bootloader of Windows 8 will demonstrate to the sata hard drive after the clone so it does not start. Another possible cause is that the HP recovery partition is not going to work. Don't forget that you have a set of HP recovery or USB flash drives.

Paragon makes one a great migration and cloning for windows8 utility which also contains a boot corrector function to manage the windows bootloader question. It is 8.1 compatible window is available for $12.   There is even a video available.

Your external DVD drive is operatying as it should.

The best place to find an answer on how to make the live CD is the Debian forum. Disk made you apparentlydoes is not not a MBR boot sector or a recognized EFI partition. Either of the people is what is necessary for the drive to be bootable and your notebook BIOS must be configured in accordance with the choice of the type of format.

Personally I've always preferred to use a utility likeUNetbootln to make several versions of Linux "live" bootable.

I don't bother with the hassle of the DVD or CD media more.

If you have a spare drive 32 or 64 GB USB flash drive, so you can put an incredible number of versions of Linux and troubleshooting utilities on it.

The economy of scale with usb flashdrive has gotten to the point where a 16 GB usb key is less expensive than recordable DVD media. Check outthe Newegg price.

  • Can't boot from USB/dvd drive on Satellite Pro M10

    Hello

the broken internal dvd drive, an external USB disk is used. Now I need to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. How can I boot from the external hard drive? (I don't have a floppy drive, but I can't find the right drivers)

    Thank you

    Luke

    Hello

Don t you need all the drivers for this key USB — because the USB disk is a device integrated on your computer. This means that whenever you connect the diskette drive to your machine, the computer establishes that diskette as a cable internal disk and this is the reason why you won´t need all the drivers.

It s already installed when you plug it in.

    See you soon

  • Pavilion TouchSmart PC 20-f323, how to boot from a DVD?

My client has a 20-f323 HP Pavilion TouchSmart PC with Windows 8 on it and wants to downgrade and install Windows 7 Pro instead.

However, my first question is, how to start my Windows 7 Pro DVD on the TouchSmart PC?  I can not even find a boot menu option to start from the DVD drive.

All other URL on this upgrade process below would be appreciated!

I thank very you much for your time.

    WARNING *.

HP does not recommend installing Windows 7 on a computer comes with Windows 8, and it will support the installation of Windows 7. HP doesn't provide drivers for Windows 7 and the appropriate drivers are not available for the hardware in the computer. In addition, Windows 7 can not take in charge some of the hardware or software designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

You can buy a new copy of Windows 7 with a valid COA and the product key.

The screenshots below is from a notebook HP 15 t-j100... options and the configuration on your computer screens may differ.

You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "Configuration of the BIOS start-up secure" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, until you try to install Windows 7.

After you save the changes, the computer will ask you to confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and press the ENTER"" key.

If you install from a USB key and see a message of "load a driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing", it's because as 'System Configuration' > 'Config USB3.0 in pre-start' is set to 'Enabled '. This should be set to 'Auto '. This should clear up the CD/DVD device is missing.

In addition, as the hard drive is probably partitioned as TPG, you must start using the internal CD/DVD UEFI or UEFI-Key/key USB to install Windows on a GPT-partitioned disk. Turn on or restart the computer and press "F9" or "ESC", then "F9" when prompted. Select the source of boot UEFI you use and you press "ENTER".

I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best installation experience. If you need Windows SP1, see 'How to install Windows 7 without the disc' to download and create your own disc of Windows 7 SP1. If the DVD does not start as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (can ask "Quick start" DISABLING in BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid active UEFI USB Flash drive if it is formatted in NTFS and may require only a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installeror WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, because it contains options for 'Plan of GPT partition for UEFI computer' and 'FAT32'.

    From the top...

    (1) turn on the computer and immediately start typing the key "ESC".

    (2) when the MENU is displayed, press "F10".

    3) navigate the BIOS to the "System Configuration", 'USB 3.0 pré-OS Config' and the value 'Auto '.

    4) navigate the BIOS to the "System Configuration", "Startup Options" and "Secure Boot" the value 'Legacy Support' the value "Enabled" and "Disabled"

    5) press "F10" and click "YES" to "Exit Saving Changes".

    (6) computer should restart and display "Change of operating system startup Mode"... type the four digit code, then press "ENTER".

    (7) let Windows 8 boot to the top and put the Windows 7 SP1media in the drive to DVD or a USB port, then logout / stop.

    (8) to turn on the computer and immediately start typing the key "ESC".

    (9) when the MENU is displayed, press the key "F9" and then select the correct boot UEFI source (CD/DVD drive internal, USB drive, CD/DVD, USB Flash drive, etc.). ... Press any key to start the CD/DVD, if prompted.

    (10) select "Language", "time / currency ' and 'Keyboard' settings and then click"Next ".

    11) click on 'install now '... Check "Accept terms" and click "next". Click on "Custom (Advanced)".

    (12) you may need to provide AMD SATA/RAID drivers at the moment... Download AMD Chipset Drivers (Chipset / AHCI / USB 3.0)

    (13) ' where do you want to install Windows 7? Select "Disk / Partition" with "Unallocated space", you created earlier, and then click "next".

    (14) follow all instructions and meet the need. Enter the Windows 7 key when asked.

Please post the "Hardware ID" Device Manager (text only) for all remaining missing or unknown devices, as shown in the example below.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • How to boot from external DVD using Iconia W700P?

I'm tired of having to restore my entire system (and lose all my files, programs, applications, etc.) whenever something is blocking the Iconia W700P (and quite often). I have an external DVD, backups of the entire system using Acronis True Image 2015 an Acronis boot disc (made on a Win 7 machine), but can not get the system to boot to the DVD device. I tried to reset the boot sequence, but it keeps starting in my original system of Windows 8 (I had to restore everything again once). I even tried to change to a legacy starting, but the system could not find a bootable device.

Without a way to restore my system, this expensive machine is completely worthless!

    Help, please!

Turning off secure boot seems to have done the trick. The DVD is loading now.

    Thank you!
