Boot from USB DVD on Lenovo X121e
Hi, any idea how to boot from a recovery disk from Lenovo for Windows 7 on a USB stick on DVD player? The laptop is running cannot run from the Linux operating system. The BIOS utility does not recognize the drive no matter what I select in the start menu (USB, CD, USB FDD or USB HDD) and the F12 boot utility also does not recognize the drive. Incidentally, F12 recognizes the Linux USB drive so I know it works. The external drive is a Leicke DVD R/RW DVD.
The reason for wanting to boot from the Windows 7 recovery drive is to reinstall Win 7 on a new installation, dual boot Linux (Mint), and then install iTunes on WIn 7so I can sync to my iPhone and run everything in Linux. I tried to use an emulator under Linux but unsucessfully Win.
I noticed that this question was asked IO a few years by another Member, but no resolution. Thanks, Nik
Hello
in order to perform a recovery of the factory of the Lenovo image BIOS Setup menu settings should be:
-"Boot UEFI/Legacy"-> "both".
-"UEFI/Legacy Boot Priority"-> "Legacy first.
Select CD USB as a bootable drive.

Can't boot from USB/dvd drive on Satellite Pro M10
Hello
the broken internal dvd drive, an external USB disk is used. Now I need to reinstall windows on a new hard drive. How can I boot from the external hard drive? (I don't have a floppy drive, but I can't find the right drivers)
Thank you
Luke
Hello
Don t you need all the drivers for this key USB — because the USB disk is a device integrated on your computer. This means that whenever you connect the diskette drive to your machine, the computer establishes that diskette as a cable internal disk and this is the reason why you won´t need all the drivers.
It s already installed when you plug it in.
See you soon

Hi September,.
Ishaan is correct since only today, I managed to get my hands on a Y500 to test. I have to admit that the Y500 is a great machine to own :-D
In any case, with regard to get this to work, you will need to go into BIOS.
To start the BIOS configuration utility:
1 turn off the computer.
2 press the Novo button (small button with the curved arrow, located next to the receptacle) and select Configuration of the BIOS.> Go to the tab "BOOT".
> Under"Boot" change into "Legacy support".
> Press F10 and save the setting.
> Machine will restart and boot press F12
> When the boot menu appears, select desired boot.Hope this helps and post your results.

Hi people,
Recently my laptop w8 shared with my brother get sick. So I decided to get out the trusty old diagnosis
USB and dvd, you know, ubcd centos ophrack. Much to my dismay, I couldn't start any of them. So after some faffing
everything on the net, I was able to boot/secure boot / disabled, which meant I could f12 at startup in the Boot Manager.
Unfortunately, the drama is over. Kindly listed boot manager internal hard drive, but not bootable usb or dvd connected. so I thought, I'm going to be cunning and change the boot order of start. Yet once the monster of Bios Acer jeeringly laughed at my attempts to
take control of the material, I dared try control simply because I happened to pay a substantial amount of money to acer.
So, it seems, the only option I have left to change is boot/boot mode / (boot uefi/legacy). So what I need to change to restore the boot control, is to change legacy BIOS uefi? Who will install the w8 cack?
Also what happens if I want to replace the hard drive with an ssd in the near future, is not not to work?
Oh, I tried to get help from the enamel of acer, their response said essentially bios/uefi is isn't a problem acer because it is sw and realized
What seemed like a pay per minute service.
Skills of good customer Acer.
Any help appreciated,

Can't boot from USB on laptop Acer NC-V5-571. another boot enabled is bios, but and I tried to boot from usb DVD etc. (starting from things that works on other PCs. I've set USB and DVD as a priority higher from startup in the BIOS. I get the alternative start menu, choose DVD or USB, but it starts just Windows 8.
I tried to boot from an external device in settings PC - general settings in the charming bar, but it starts off directly with Windows 8 too. the DVD plays fine films, and if I plug the boot device dvd W8 sees them and their content because I expect too much.
Any ideas on how to boot from another device. I would like to take at least a decent backup using Acronis.
Thanks in advance for any help

Boot from an additional media under Windows 8, you will ensure that you have either disabled Secure Boot or changed to UEFI in the traditional mode. The following articles describe how to do this.

Can't boot from USB or CD/DVD to boot.
I'm trying to install a new OS from a bootable DVD that I created. However, my T530 leader not from the DVD. I checked the boot order in the BIOS settings and even explicitly tried to force at the start of my DVD - ROM Sina the F12 boot menu. I was able to boot from this DVD on my other computer.
Any way to diagnose whether my DVD-ROM is defective, or is there maybe some BIOS setting to fix this? I am able to read the disc in Windows, just can not boot from it. The laptop is brand new, just opened it today, so I don't know why something so simple that it would just work.
You must disable startup secure, then tilt the machine mode Legacy BIOS UEFI.

How can I boot from USB - Portege A200
Hello
I have a Portege A200 which is only a couple of years, but the hard drive no longer works. Initially, I thought that this was due to corrupt the boot disk record, but after trying to replace the drive hard (with two different readers), is showing a #0 IDE error when starting. So I came to the conclusion that the IDE controller chip is dead.
In order to get labour latop, I burned a cd with the ubunto ISO. It starts off ok but due have only 512 MB of RAM, the system is somewhat limited and nothing installed is lost each time that I reboot.
Now, I bought a 2 GB flash drive and installed ubuntu on it. My other problem is that there seems to be no boot from USB HDD or USB option in the bios.
The options I can think of are:
(1) Upgade the bios so that it supports the start of memory stick (although no HARD drive so do not know how I could reflash the BIOS or if there is even an upgrade of the BIOS that would support this feature)
(2) create a cd that starts the boot process then tells the system to continue the initialization of the USB key (this is possible and does anyone know where I might be able to get these software)
(3) boot from CD but the use of USB to keep any recorded information / everything installs etc (I suppose that similar to option 2 except the cd would manage the entire OS and USB would just "extra" information)If there are other options if someone may think I am happy to give them a go. Seems a shame to have to chuck to a laptop that is not particularly old, because the IDE controller chip has failed on the mobo.
I have apppriciate any help anyone can offer.
Thank you very much
MarkHello
First I have to say that it of not possible to boot from the external USB device as USB, CD/DVD USB drive or USB HDD.
It of only possible to boot from the external USB FDD (floppy) diskHowever, no opportunities for startup are clear, but I think that you misunderstood the IDE #0 error message. According to m that the IDE controller is not defective but only the new drive HARD is not compatible and not recognized by the BIOS.
There are different reasons for this problem
For the most part this error message appears if the HARD drive master/slave/c-salt settings are not correct.
Generally these settings don t need to be changed or switched on the 2.5 hard disks but some hard drives support a rider that needs to be fixed in the correct position. But I put t if your HARD drive supports thisIn addition, the size of HARD drive isn't is not compatible could be the reason for these error messages!
I would recommend so finally communicating with ASP in your country to get a new, compatible HARD drive and see if the same error still occurs.Good luck

Hi esc.

Portege R500-12 s - problem of recovery (Boot from USB)
Hello
I tried several days reinstall this laptop (Toshiba PORTÉGÉ R500-12 s). I reinstall drive, but it has no CD-ROM included, so I'm fighting with booting from the USB port, with my external hard drive. Those that the BIOS loads even boot from USB? Because there is no alternative USB inside the boot priority. I noticed that I can choose from, what I think is alternative of different startup in start up, when I press the F12 key. When I press the F12 key and choose USB, I just pup up to a similar cmd command line.
Reinstall is the only option because my laptop is super slow, and I have no restore file (CD) on my laptop
Ultimately is it possible to reinstall windows via USB boot, or do I have to buy an external CD-ROM drive? Which is the last thing I want to do. Advice or assistance on how I'm going to do this?
Thanks in advance :-)
I put t know if this is possible, but if you can visit Toshiba service in your city, ask them for help. They have all the external devices and also external optical drive.
Buy a coffee and ask if they can install just image recovery using your recovery DVDs. I m that they will help you with this.By the way: you can not install OS using the recovery saved on the HARD disk image. Laptop can't see it.
What you need is the optical disk drive.
Also, try to borrow a somewhere. -
Unable to boot from USB or ODD after that windows 8.1 update on P850 - 31L
Hello
I just updated a P850 - 31L for windows windows 8.1 8 by the windows store.
Before the update, I was able to boot from a USB key by pressing F12 during the boot upward.
After the update I was more able to boot from the USB drive. Select the USB key by changing the boot order in the setup of the BIOS via F2 or pressing F12 is no longer works.
Booting from ODD also is no longer possible.
The version of the BIOS is 6.70 and does not secure boot must be disabled. However the DVD and the USB I tried are signed Ubuntu 12.10, who worked before the upgrade. Fastboot in windows 8.1 is disabled.
Then, this seems to be a bug in the BIOS Toshiba? Or a windows 8.1 update the BIOS or the boot EFI in a way partition replace the BIOS setting? Really stuck here, does not seem to be much information.
Any ideas or help would be very appreciated!
Thank you
Michael
Update: I just tried to boot from the DVD of windows recovery 8 Toshiba and this does more or the other.

OK I fixed that.
First of all, it is to note that it is possible to turn off secure in the 6.70 BIOS startup.
However this option is only available when the password is not defined in the Security menu. After activation or deactivation of the password a reboot is necessary to make the secure boot toggle option is available or not.
It's good that I guess I assume that it can prevent secure boot are disabled when the machine is running. However this does not seem to have been associated with this problem.
I selected the option "reset to factory defaults" in the output menu.
The machine is then able to boot from USB and DVD. The boot order was also respected.Perhaps upgrading windows 8.1 corrupt invisible somehow the BIOS settings. Or maybe it was just a stranage coincidence that the BIOS itself corrupted during the installation. Anyway this factory reset fixed.
