How to change a vLAN

Hello

We currently have virtual environment using Distributed vSwitches and a vCenter. We have a few groups of ports using VLANs, the rest do not have a set of vLAN (vLAN native, different subnets). The network team want to set up a tag of vLAN on the network management & Associates Port Group shortly.

I'm looking for advice on how best to apply the change in VMware without the risk of locking me after that the network team make the change on their end! Someone at - it experience with this? I would avoid HA activity during the failover, but avoid having to turn off all the VMs etc.

You use a direct network connection or you have flex-10 / flex fabric?  If that's the case then you will need to do a little more planning, as you must also update the settings on OA and vSphere.  Update of a physical connection could potentially remove half of your uplinks.  If it's just a degree of transmission, then you host it at once.  Creating second vmkernel management makes sense.

You're already familiar with HA and datastore-heart beat (Isolated & partitioned), but something to keep in mind is 'in the case of an isolation, a crowd is separated from the master and the virtual machines running on it can be restarted according to the chosen insulation response and the availability of a master.»

This should be fairly simple change if plan you carefully and that you are comfortable with the configuration of your environment.

    first set the ports as trunks via the "VLAN management'-> 'Settings of the Interface' - click on the corresponding port, click on the button"Edit"and select"Trunk"in the list.

    Once these (GE1 and GE2) ports as trunks, you can now assign all the VLANS you want through "Management of VLAN"-> "a Port VLAN membership." Select the first port (GE1), click on "join the VLAN" and select VLAN all desired from the list on the left and put them in the list on the right.

    the default management IP switch is part of the default VLAN1. If you want to keep access to the switch, assign "VLAN1" to one of the ports of access, or change management VLAN number other than 1 - but in this case remember to apply the correct IP settings in order to satisfy the subnet assigned to the new VIRTUAL LAN.
