How to copy of VMware Workstation 6.5.2 VMS in VMware Fusion?

Hello!

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but after a search, I couldn't find an answer.

I am to evaluate VMware Fusion on my MacBook Pro.

I started a live Linux CD is inside VMware Fusion, to confirm that my installation of merger works perfectly.

However, now I need to copy some VM I made on VMware Workstation 6.5.2, to VMware Fusion.

What is the best way to do it?

I copied the directories for the virtual machine.  In Fusion, I tried to open the *.vmdk files directly, but they are not accepted as a valid file type.

The operating system of the host VMware Workstation's kernel version 2.6.29, 64-bit Linux.

The operating system of the host VMware Fusion is Mac OS 10.5.6.

The BONES of the guests are varied.  I have a Windows XP virtual machine, a Linux virtual 32-bit and a 64-bit virtual machine Linux.

What is the best way to copy of VMware Workstation, VMware Fusion?

VMware Converter seems to be the best route to follow, but it seems destined only to installations of Windows, and it is also oriented towards P2V, do not copy an existing VM.

Thank you!

Josh

Stop the virtual machines and close the workstation.

A copy of the entire folders to your Mac.

Perform the merge.  Open an existing virtual machine... Navigate to the vmx file.  You may need to edit the file to change the names of specific OS devices and/or file/PropertyPath, syntax.

  • A separate copy of VMware Fusion by user

    Hello

I have a Mac Pro where I want two independent copies of VMware Fusion running. I thought I had two users with Admin privileges, and each with a vmware fusion facility that they own.

One will be the host of services that need to be connected all the time.

And it will be used for the test and because VMWare fusion does not revertToSnapshot operation while merger is turned on, it will turn it off (at least) before execution of the revertToSnapshot. So I can't have my servers and test virtual machines running on the same copy of VMware Fusion. (Please let me know if I'm wrong and there is a work around which will allow all on a VMWare fusion only exemplary.)

So in this case, I need two copies, VMWare seems to install so that it is available for all users on the same machine. And it doesn't seem to be a simple installation and uninstallation processes. So I (naively) thought I could package VMWare Fusion just pull on the Applications folder and put in the office he said. And then I can do it again for the other user.

    Which will work?

    Thank you

I have a Mac Pro where I want two independent copies of VMware Fusion running. I thought I had two users with Admin privileges, and each with a vmware fusion facility that they own.

To be clear, there's a merger set up by machine (for security reasons). Each user can have its own set of virtual machines.

And it will be used for the test and since VMWare fusion does not revertToSnapshot operation while the merger is on

In my view, that the control is actually if there is a lock file, not knowing if any instance of Fusion runs. If user A running virtual machine X and user B wants to return virtual machine, it should work fine (as long as there is not the virtual machine library, but that would cause problems anyway).

My understanding is that the older versions of vmrun incorrectly ignored the lock file, so if you could revertToSnapshot with Fusion race, there was a small chance of corruption.

  • Buy VMware Fusion 7, but the v5 download and run the merger also?

I looked on the website of VMware, but impossible to find the answer to this question:

A customer can purchase VMware Fusion version 7 (the current version) but also to download and run an earlier version of VMware Fusion (for example, merger v5) for temporary use? Here's an example scenario:

    * A VMware customer has two Macs. One is an old Mac running Snow Leopard, and the other is a new Mac running Mavericks or Yosemite. The customer wants to use the new Mac, go ahead (and give the old Mac). The client runs even a few applications that are not supported on what it is later than Snow Leopard (for example PowerPC applications). The obvious solution is to run these applications in a guest of Snow Leopard Server in VMware Fusion on the new Mac.

    * The problem is that Snow Leopard Server does not install as a guest operating system on the recent Mac models of the client, but it can run an existing Snow Leopard Server prompt that was created on an older Mac.

    * The client has this old Snow Leopard Mac. Unfortunately, it won't run VMware Fusion 7. It will run in VMware Fusion version 5, however. The customer wants to run VMware Fusion 5 on the old Mac to create the Snow Leopard Server on old Mac prompt, then copy the comments for the new Mac where it can run under VMware Fusion 7.

    HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS:

--> How can the customer buy VMware Fusion 7, but also to download a copy of VMware Fusion 5 for this operation 'create a Snow Leopard Server prompt' unique on the old Mac?

-> Will VMware provide a Fusion 5 license when the trial period expires on the old Mac before the customer can get a Snow Leopard Server comments work?

I sent you this link last night via Message private and also posted in your other thread on the subject.  You should be able to use as disk utility here: create a disk image of physical Mac OS X install media.

If this process fails to create an image that starts on your newer Mac, please let us know, as this is a question we want to address.  I'm not aware of any circumstances which require a downgrade from Fusion 5 install Snow Leopard Server.

    Thank you

  • 10 workstation could not open the 7 vm Fusion

I get this error after copying my VMware Fusion 7 on my PC image to open with VMware Workstation 10:

The configuration file 'V:\Virtual Machines\Windows 8 x64\Windows 8 x64.vmx' was created by a product of VMware, which is not compatible with this version of VMware Workstation and can not be used.

It seems that VMWare Workstation 10 needs an update to recognize the image Fusion 7 update.  Anyone aware of this or know of a work around?

VMware Fusion 7 uses the material material virtual version 11 and VMware Workstation 10 virtual version 10, so before you move a Virtual Machine created under VMware Fusion 7 to VMware Workstation 10 you must demote it and uninstall VMware Tools.  Once in VMware Workstation 10, you can reinstall VMware Tools.  Take a look on: change the compatibility of a Virtual Machine

If you use the VMware Workstation Technology Preview 2014 , you will not have to manure with compatibility!

    Technology guarantee program FAQ (TGP)

What is the technology guarantee program?

VMware provides a free copy of VMware Fusion 7.x if you bought a copy of Fusion 6 at the Store VMware or a VMware reseller between August 1, 2014 and on September 30, 2013.

How can I get my VMware Fusion 7.x license key, if I'm in the eligibility period?

    • If you have purchased VMware Fusion 6 electronically VMware or a VMware reseller during this period, you will automatically receive a new license key VMware Fusion 7.x by e-mail by September 30, 2014. In addition, the license keys will be delivered to your My VMware account and you can find the keys to the new folder called technology guarantee program and other measures are not required to receive the upgrade.
    • If you have purchased a VMware Fusion 6 through a dealer of VMware in this period, you need to present your license keys and supporting purchase online before October 31, 2014. Allow up to 30 days to receive your free electronic upgrade to VMware Fusion 7.x. For more information about sending all the required documentation, refer to the guide to VMware Fusion.

Note: the previous link was correct as of September 3, 2014. If you find the link is broken, provide feedback and a VMware employee updates the link.

  • Load comments from Mac OS on VMware Fusion

I have a licensed copy of VMware Fusion installed 2.05 on a Mac Book Pro.  Normally, I use it to run different virtual Windows OS macines. However, I also want to create a virtual machine using Mac OS.  VMware doesn't let me do that for any reason any.  Maybe it's an obvious problem, but I couldn't find any documentation or support messages telling why you cannot load the Mac OS on MVWare Fusion running on an Intel Mac.  Anyone know how I can do this job?  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hello

Sorry, you cannot run an OS X desktop virtualized under Fusion version.

This is not allowed by apple and VMware has added some checks to enforce this.

There is no way known around him (at least not here on this forum) and asking us to help you to pirate software won't give you much, I'm afraid.

FWIW, you pouvez run OSX Server as a virtualized OS and that is even authorized by apple (if you have a legal copy and apple hardware to run it)

    Sorry for the bad news.

  • How to prevent the VMware Tools reset the size of my text on 4 k display

    Hello

I use 12 Workstation on a Dell XPS 15 9550 with a native resolution of 3840 x 2160 (4 k).  I was able to move on virtual machines running Win 7 from another system where the virtual machines were running at a resolution of 1920 x 1080.  These virtual machines are now running at 1920 x 1080 on the Dell.  (I did it by using the VM settings > display and set a max and running full screen resolution).  The problem is that the text and icons are displayed at 150% the size. I can use the Win 7 Desktop > resolution to 100% and everything is the way I need it, but when I do this change, VMware Tools appears saying that I need to log out and back in.  If I do this the text/icons are at 150%.

How can I get VMware Tools to stop the reset of this size from 100% to 150%?

    Thank you.

    Here is the solution:

    > Turn on the virtual machine.

    > Click VM > settings > select view.

    > Uncheck the option scale to display "automatically adjust the size of the user interface on the VM.

    > Disconnect and connect when VMware Tools invites.

    > You can now change the font size in the virtual machine to 100%.

    > Disconnect and connect.

  • How to install an instance of Yosemite on VMWare Fusion 7?

Just got a Mac Mini with preinstalled Yosemite. I want to install an instance of Yosemite on my virtual machine running Fusion 7. How do I do that? Yosemite download on the App store? This will create problems?

Just got a Mac Mini with preinstalled Yosemite. I want to install an instance of Yosemite on my virtual machine running Fusion 7. How do I do that? Yosemite download on the App store? This will create problems?

I'm learning the terminal, and I feel much better in futzing with it in a sandbox.

I think that the people above are missing the point. Trixie (?) got a Mac with already installed Yosemite, but wants a second copy in a virtual machine for Trixie can practice some terminal commands without fear of ruining its production equipment. The question is how to get a copy of Yosemite Trixie allowing it to install on a virtual machine.

None of my Macs come with Yosemite, so I easily could get it from the App Store. It's free from Apple. Even if your Mac came with Yosemite, I guess you can get your own copy of the installer from the App Store. Based on this assumption, here's what I suggest:

    GETTING TO YOSEMITE

    * First of all, try to get a copy of Yosemite from the App Store yourself, even if you are already running Yosemite. Search in the App Store, "os x yosemite." The icon is a white circle with a big X in "utilities". Go ahead and 'Get' or 'Buy' or 'download '. It will be downloaded in your Applications folder. The file is called "install OS X Yosemite.app. (NOTE: you can't see the part ".app" to the name of the file.)

    * If it does not, ask a friend with an old Mac to get a copy of Yosemite with their Mavericks or older Mac. Remind them NOT to launch "Installer OS X Yosemite.app" in their Applications folder! They should copy out of their Applications folder and put it on a flash drive or DVD ROM or the hard drive for you. (IMPORTANT: even if your friend wants to install Yosemite, they must first make a separate copy of the installer.) As soon as it is installed, Yosemite deletes its own Installer automatically from the Applications folder only, but not the copies that have been made elsewhere.

INSTALLATION of YOSEMITE IN a VMware VIRTUAL MACHINE

    * Move the file "install OS X Yosemite.app' of Applications to another folder. If it's on a flash drive, you can leave it there.

    * Launch VMware Fusion.

Create a new machine virtual (menu file-> New, library Virtual Machine 'Add-> New', or command-N).

    * Choose Install from disk or an image. Click on continue.

    * Click on using another drive or disc image..., then browse to the file "install OS X Yosemite.app. Click the Open button in the dialog box, then click on continue.

(Note: there is no need to open the 'package' to find the file "installESD.dmg".) Simply select the file "Install OS X Yosemite.app" and VMware Fusion does the rest for you.)

    * If you want to customize the settings (change the RAM, disk space, etc), do it now. Otherwise, click Finish. The setup of OS X Yosemite will start and run. It will say "creating installation support...". This may take a few minutes. "On my computer, it took more than a" few"minutes. :-)

    * Choose the appropriate language (probably English, if you're reading this!). Click on "Install Mac OS X", then continue.

    * Continue to install OS X as usual.

    * Don't forget to update to OS X (software update) and also to install VMware Tools.

  • "Promiscuous" in VMware Fusion mode / workstation

I'm currently under ESXi as a guest in VMware Fusion. Surprisingly, it runs great!

Every time that the guest (ESXi) starts, a message appears asking my password user, saying that a customer trying to monitor all network traffic.

Is it possible to set up the networking as well as the promiscuous mode is always enabled? While it is not ask for my password each time?

Can you also define promiscuous mode in VMware Workstation? In ESXi, it is possible and easy to do... I wonder how to do the same in the merger/Workstation.

    Thank you.

For this, a feature request has been opened against the merger in September 2010.  Unfortunately, it seems that it is still open.

For the more adventurous, it seems that there is a solution here: VMware Fusion requires that you type your password.  <-- on="">.

Workstation Windows allows the "Promiscuous" mode without blinking.  Linux workstation can be configured to allow the "Promiscuous" mode in accordance with the instructions in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/287.

  • How to set preferences for the network folder in VMWare Fusion

I use VMWare Fusion to run a virtual PC on my Mac which I use QuickBooks to MUCH for my business. I'm trying to get the Writer of Intuit, a complementary product to work, QuickBooks statement but there need me to change the security settings on the "network drive" my files are on. "If you choose a network folder for a default save location, the system

administrator must make some specific changes on the network and address

some questions of local security. To open the QMD files over a network, the

administrator must grant full trust to any executable code or to

all Microsoft Office documents in the folder where the file qsm

security strategy for .NET framework on the computer. The

administrator must ensure that these changes are compatible with any

other local security policies. For more information, see Networking SIE

    and multiple users. »

Help! How can I do this?

    Thank you

    Dawn

I don't use QuickBooks but Google search for EIS networking and multiple users hit Albums is support QuickBooks - statement of Intuit writer (SIE) network and multi-user functionality and he said: 'because we do not recommend this, the files must be local when you work with them. It is necessary to copy the file IF you want to work with on your local disk, and when the finished work with the file, copy it to the server. "so this means to copy the file in the folder shared VMware on the Windows filesystem, as an example the office that you use also the feature and then mirrored folders when it copy in the shared folder of VMware.

If you don't want to do that, then it seems that the major changes that need to be taken are on the side of Windows and not really a matter of VMware Fusion in itself however in the perspective of VMware Fusion, VMware shared folder should be set to read & write and is the only permissions that VMware Fusion has no control on in this regard.  Another aspect of the permissions would be on OS X and the permissions on the folder as a shared folder on VMware normally, only the owner has read & write permissions and other default permissions for reading only.  You may also need to change the permissions to read & write however what I read after looking at a few other answers the main objective research to resolve that matter Windows itself using the .NET Framework Configuration tool.

So I really do not see this as a matter of VMware Fusion and see it in the totally as an issue security policy mainly on Windows, although the other mentioned permissions must be at least check and then only modified if necessary after that making the necessary changes on Windows is not sufficient even though as long as the folder shared VMware is set read/write & I think the rest this is totally of the Windows side.

  • How many user accounts can use windows via VMware Fusion?

I installed the latest version of fusion on my machine and a copy of windows XP. It is very good and I am impressed by the ease and speed of it. However, I am the administrator and my 3 kids have accounts of users on the same computer. When my son connects to his user account and Fusion to do some homework on one only program windows at startup, it is not a virtual machine at startup. This means that using merge I cannot use a mac user account? Can I move the windows folder to a location for all to use or y at - it a setting I need to change in Fusion? Maybe, I need to install windows again on his account. If Yes this will cause other potential problems and hog hard disk space unnecessarily. I would prefer merger to the boot camp because I need for windows and mac at the same time. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!  Yes, you can use XP with multiple users.

There is some info on this in the Beginner's Guide to VMware Fusion

    Here is an excerpt:

Only one person can be using the VM to

a time (and the fast user switching does not count). Suspension (and

maybe taken snapshot) the VM will probably cause others to not

be able to use the virtual machine.

Important: whenever you produce operations (move, copy, edition, deletion, etc.) in a virtual machine, make sure it is turned off and the Fusion is not running. You don't want to change data in Fusion.

To do this, are the main things you need to do:

    • Move the virtual machine to a shared location for others users can access

      • An example of this is/Users/Shared /.

    • Change the permissions so that any user can access the virtual machine

      • In the Finder, select the virtual machine, and then select read the information. Then
"Ownership and permissions > other" change "read and write".
(I don't know if you need to do this also for access to the Group). You too
need to do this for the contents of the virtual machine - do not forget the forest earlier
on how to get inside a package? And repeat the Get Info
correction on everything in the bundle
