How to delete everything off of my hard drive?

I have an old computer iMac (from 2008), and I would like to delete the contents of my hard drive. Is there a way to do this, and can it be done without deleting the operating system?

It can be done easily without remove the operating system, but...

Start now CMC - r & use utility disc here, CMD + r should have an option to reinstall the OS after clearing the startup disk.

Or...

Open system preferences > accounts, unlock it, click the "smaller", make a new admin account, log on & into the new account.

In the same pref pane to highlight your old account, click on the less icon, then use to Secure Erase free space disk utility.

Hello. I am currently a professional user of Windows Xp and I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. I will soon buy an external hard drive and I want to have a COMPLETE Windows XP upwards [save IT] in my external hard drive. Can someone help me please? As in the steps to do this?

There is a way to do really well.  You can clone your XP disk as a file and then access it via Virtual PC.  See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx you can then use the XP Mode (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/windows-xp-mode.aspx) and load your old cloned drive (vhd file) as a secondary drive and then you can pull data off of it you want.  There is more info here on its use: www.oehelp.com/OEnWin7.aspx since you get Win7 Pro, XP Mode will be free.

You must use a third-party tool to achieve this. And here's one:

  • delete a partition on my hard drive that was originally set up by the manufacturer as a backup drive hard to label.

I hope I am posting this on the forum,

I want to delete a partition on my hard drive that was originally set up by the manufacturer as a backup drive hard to label.

I went into computer management console & know that the primary partition - drive C system, boot, pagefile, active lists, dump incident & main partition in brackets but I don't know about the virtual memory paging file. No, there is some data on it. I've been saving the other partition - C drive on an external hard drive.

I know that I have to back up this data but where I should come back to? And why is it called (Primary Partition) when it is used only as a return to the top by car?

    Hello

D: is not a partition backup of your machine.

Acer has a time set up their machines to the way yours is:

They had a C: drive for the operating system, a drive D: for data (music, movies, etc you would like to register and a recovery partition 'hidden' to reinstall the operating system and to make the recovery discs to do the same thing.)

You can merge C: and D: as a whole, BUT save all data on D: first because it will be deleted when you merge.

And YES, you back up the data on an external hard drive in case of hard drive failure, the corruption of the system, etc.

Have you any other suggestions to remove this BS Cleaner difficulty. my computer. I would be grateful for any help I can get.

    Here are two possibilities.

The first is on their site at http://www.fixcleaner.com/support.php#faq_sales and has the following (note that it says to close the application and the service):

"Uninstall FixCleaner is easily.» The first thing you need to do is to close the program. If the application is open, click on the X in the upper right to close. Then you close the service. Check the tray at the bottom of the screen and find the icon FixCleaner. Right click, and you will see an option to close the application.

Once the application has been completely closed, Open the Add/Remove Programs dialog box in Control Panel. From there, you can simply opt to uninstall FixCleaner, a process that should take less than one minute. "

The second is to start in SafeMode as shown here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110110114204AAd1PsM
