How to do a complete uninstall of VMWare Workstation 10 Buggy?

Hello

I bought and installed VMWare Workstation 10 about a year using the education license.

A few months ago, I tried to reinstall VMWare Workstation because it had been destabilised by a question about my PC. But when I tried to uninstall the software, it arises repeatedly with the following error message:

The MSI "failed.

The path of the folder "Shared Virtual Machines" contains an invalid character.

I tried to fix it, but to no avail. Finally, I decided to manually uninstall VMWare ranging in all directories, I knew where was installed at VMWare and remove files.

It did not always work because of all the registry keys related to VMWare.

At this point, I would like to do a complete uninstall of VMWare Workstation, and then perform a new installation on my computer.

Would it be possible to know the procedure should I follow to remove all information related to VMWare on my computer (key of registry, files, dll, etc.) and then reinstall it?

Any resource in this regard would be really appreciated.

Where this might be necessary, my computer is running Windows 8.1 Pro on an Intel i7 x 64 CPU.

Thanks in advance!

Jeremiah

  • How to locate the location of a VMware Workstation v10.0.3 vmdk readers when stereotypes are present.

Re: How to find the location of a VMware Workstation v10.0.3 vmdk readers when stereotypes are present.

    Hello

Since nearly five months, I have worked on a particular project and am reviewing me with the details of the project. The virtual machine has three virtual disks. I remember the BONES of the virtual machine as well as the first disc of the vmdk virtual machine data files are in the Windows host file containing the virtual machine. Nothing unusual so far. I remember that I put the third disk of the virtual machine on my axis f: physical, but I want to make sure that before you start again work on the project.

I see of http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003880 we should be able to examine the vmx file and see the locations of virtual disk. What I've noticed, is that since I was a snapshot, I see this:

    scsi0:2.present = 'TRUE '.

    scsi0:2.filename = "MyProject-Disk3 - 000001.vmdk".

So what I see in the vmx is the physical location of the disk snapshot delta and not the physical location of the vmdk.

I also did a search for vmware vmdk files - x.log and I find:

    2014 03-21 T 11: 35:46.964 - 04:00 | Worker #2 | I120: DISKLIB-DSCPTR: open [0]: "sample - Disk3.vmdk" (0xe)

    2014 03-21 T 11: 35:46.964 - 04:00 | Worker #2 | I120: DISKLIB-LINK: opened 'F:\MyProject-Disk3\MyProject-Disk3.vmdk' (0xe): monolithicSparse, 83886080 sectors / 40 GB.

    2014 03-21 T 11: 35:46.964 - 04:00 | Worker #2 | I120: DISKLIB-LIB: open 'G:\VMware VMs\MyProject\MyProject-Disk3-000001.vmdk' (0xa, type monolithicSparse flags).

So by brute force, I discovered that the parent for the VM Disk3 vmdk is the physical disk F. And even here, the only reason why I know that I have the right VM disk, because I included "Disk3" in the VM disk naming convention that I used.

But what happens if I hadn't used a physical VM disk naming convention which did not include the name of the virtual disk of the virtual machine? How could 100% sure that the third disk of my VM was the vmdk parent that I had located on the physical disk F?

There must be an easier way to do this for days just like that.

I look forward to your reply.

    Kind regards...

P.S. I noticed that if I close this virtual machine and click on the 3 hard drive (SCSI), it only shows the name of the file of the virtual delta "MyProject-Disk3 - 000001.vmdk" machine and not the parent vmdk.

P.S. I noticed that if I close this VM and try using the disk utilities, the map shows that the path to the file delta 'MyProject-Disk3 - 000001.vmdk' and the parent vmdk.

Virtual disk snapshot files have the file name of the virtual disk parent included in the file descriptor hard (text file), or in the hard data file according to the format of the virtual disk. In the case of a monolithic virtual disk format (i.e. a hard single file), you may need to use a hex editor to find the 'parentFileNameHint' somewhere between 0x200 and 0x400.

  • How can I change default location VM VMware Workstation via Group Policy or to a Script?

    Hello

I administer a laboratory of my school networking in a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. We want to enable folder redirection but since VMware Workstation creates new virtual machines by default in the C:\Users\Username\Documents\Virtual Machines, I can't do this, or else the NAS would be overloaded.

My question is, is there a file registry or config that I could change via a script or a political group? In this way, all students would default their VM install to another location.

    Thanks for your time.

The default location is %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Virtual Machines and is not set in the registry of Windows or the disk file until the default is changed and is then defined in the file %APPDATA%\VMware\preferences.ini as: prefvmx.defaultVMPath = "FQP.

  • How to work the Optimus compared to VMware Workstation 8 with enable 3D

Hi, I am doing some performance tests in VMware Workstation

There are some improvements to run VMware using the Nvidia card or there is no improvement at all, and it's better to use default Intel card?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate host and as a guest Windows 7 Ultimate so I can compare with the windows experience.

    Host:

    Comments:

    screenshot.2.jpg

Another thing I found interesting is why the performance of the hard disk are the same, but the memory is quite low in comparation with the speed of the host

Is it normal? Can I improve the performance of the memory procesor or 3D in some way?

As the comparation that I am very interested in the functioning of memory per second.

There is always some trouble when virtual hardware running and it is not that you can do to improve except to avoid paging, the latest version of VMware Workstation and have the updated drivers.

The Windows experience index is also a pretty poor excuse for reference so according to what are your objectives is better there tools like pass etc.

What type of workload are underway in the virtual machine?

  • How to do a complete uninstall and reinstall.

A uninstall and reinstall should not be the first tool used to solve printing problems.  Most of the time, this option should be used when other attempts at troubleshooting have failed.

Here are some other steps that must be taken before a uninstall and reinstall:

    1. Replace low ink cartridges.
    2. Exclude hardware problems.  A photocopy can be made?  If this is not the case, this issue needs to be addressed first.
    3. Make sure that the print queue is empty.
    4. Perform a hard reset to a connected USB or network printer.
    5. Perform a reset of network for a network or wireless printer.
    6. Run it HP Print and Scan doctor.

If none of these attempts have managed to solve the problem, a uninstall and reinstall may be considered.  Here's a method I like to use for Windows 7 and below:

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Click on all programs.
    3. Scroll the HP folder and open it.
    4. Double click on your printer and select Uninstall.
    5. Select uninstall all programs / devices associated with the printer, if this option appears.
    6. Once the uninstall completed, check the programs and features in the Control Panel and uninstall all of the remaining programs that are connected to the printer.  If you see a program and you are not sure, do not uninstall it.
    7. When programs in the previous step are deleted, restart the computer.
    8. It is recommended that a driver from hp.com download is used to reinstall so the software up to date is used.  Download the software driver Support and Drivers on the hp.com website.  Use the product # (found on the printer State) to search for the best driver, and then select your operating system and choose the full functionality driver and start the download.
    9. Once the download is complete, launch the installation and follow the instructions.

    Good luck!

    Hope that helps.

  • Core upgraded to 4.0 on Centos 7 VMWare Workstation 11 won't build the virtual network device

As shown in the topic, I have manually compiled kernel 4.0 for my installation of CentOS 7. After the installation of the kernel (in rpm mode, followed the instructions here: How to compile a Kernel - The Way CentOS ) installed all 3 rpm, kernel, kernel-headers and kernel-devel and then tried to start my installation of workstation with it leads to having to re - build the components (as usual)

It does not, when it came to the compilation of the network management module. See attached log file that it generated.

    I also tried to uninstall, downloaded VMware-Workstation-Full - 11.1.0 - 2496824.x86_64.bundle and re-installed with the same result.

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • How to completely uninstall a computer labview and avoid to occupy the license

    Hello

Usually a labview can be installed on three computers. Now I already installed all and will install in another computer. So I need to uninstall one of the three and want to know how can I completely uninstall the labview. Thanks a lot for your help.

Use License Manager TO deactivate the license.  Will release the database entry of NO, so that you are OK to activate the license even on a new machine (can't really uninstall LabVIEW - the absence of activated license will prevent the use).  As I remember reading the license agreement, you can do up to 4 times per year.

If you do not have access to the old machine (that is, because it fell from the roof or something like that) call OR service and they can manually remove activation.

  • How can I completely uninstall ChemStation?

I run a program of ChemStation on my new laptop which has vista.  The program used to store information in win.ini on my XP laptop.
In the past, I just deleted the lines in the win.ini file to completely uninstall ChemStation.

I tried to use the program on my computer vista laptop and now I want to uninstall the program.  I can see that the program is store information in the "win.ini" file in vista, but according to all the forums, I read that there is no such 'win - ini"in vista.  Where and how are these files stored?  I need to remove this information in order to install the updated of the ChemStation programme.

    Any advice? Thank you!

    Hi KJordan84,

Please use the forum for Support of Vista,

You should try to contact the manufacturer of ChemStation.  As you said, it is there no Win.ini for Vista files.  How the program would install and uninstall, you'll need to direct the question to the manufacturer of the software.
