I want to just update the other computer with a few new brands of book from the old computer. If I choose the backup option using the json file it totally replaces everything when I load it on the new computer using the restore option.   There is an extension which exports cookies to the old text file format. That could allow you to delete the ones your do not want by using a text editor. I think that you would need the extension again to reimport the file (modified) in Firefox.

  You cannot export a selection of bookmarks.
  
  You will need to export to a HTML file and edit that file to remove unwanted bookmarks.
  
  Easier is to place a copy of the bookmarks at the end of the folder of bookmarks Menu bookmarks (Library Manager; Bookmarks > show all bookmarks).
  
  Here you can easily find the and paste them into another folder using a text editor.
