How to fix unreadable disk

im confused on what to do, I bought a new game and it does not work it says that the disc cannot be read and I tried all my other games and they work fine what can I do about it? It makes no sense just to have the console repaired and there are no scratches on the disc

Hello

1. which version of the Windows operating system is installed on your computer?

2 are you facing the question with all discs?

3. the drive worked very well in this computer before?

4. is the drive of the manufacturer of the game?

I suggest you to use the disc in another computer and see if it helps.

And also check if you can get the download of the game.

If the Microsoft Fixit did not help, then it would be best to contact the manufacturer of game disc to get help.

Hope the information is useful.

There is a Snow Leopard update that would probably help.  It's called 10.6.8 Combo update.  Download and apply.  Then discover iTunes.

  • How can I encrypt a drive where cs diskutil convert reports 'a problem', let the unreadable disk?

I try to encrypt my Time Machine backup volume, but diskutil refuses and leaves the disc unreadable (but fixable using Linux).  How can I proceed?

It is a disc of TB USB3 Western Digital Elements 107 3.

It has one HFS partition + and works very well.

diskutil verifyDisk and diskutil verifyVolume don't report any problems.  I also used Alsoft DiskWarrior to repair inconsistencies, without problems.

If I try to convert the volume, diskutil report 'a problem', like this:

        rb@Silverbird$ /usr/sbin/diskutil cs convert /Volumes/RB3TB1/
Started CoreStorage operation on disk4s2 RB3TB1
Resizing disk to fit Core Storage headers
Creating Core Storage Logical Volume Group
        Attempting to unmount disk4s2
        Switching disk4s2 to Core Storage
Waiting for Logical Volume to appear
        Mounting Logical Volume
A problem occurred; undoing all changes
Switching partition from Core Storage type to original type
Undoing creation of Logical Volume Group
Reclaiming space formerly used by Core Storage metadata
        Error: -69842: Couldn't mount disk

This leaves the unreadable disk.  diskutil cs list shows the drive as a basic storage volume that is "online" and "reversible" but it may not be mounted or acted on, nor can the physical volume of the parent.  Disk utility crashes at startup when the drive is connected.  diskutil repairDisk on volume of parent reports:

Repairing the partition map might erase disk4s1, proceed? (y/N) y
Started partition map repair on disk4
        Checking prerequisites
Problems were encountered during repair of the partition map
Error: -69808: Some information was unavailable during an internal lookup

In fact, all access to the disc seems to be broken at this point.

        rb@Silverbird$ sudo /usr/sbin/gpt show /dev/disk4
gpt show: unable to open device '/dev/disk4': Input/output error

You cannot read the device using hexdump.  The kernel seems mightily confused.

I was able to recover the disc mounting Linux using the utility 'gdisk' to change the partition type to AF02 (storage of carrots) to AF00 (HFS +).  After that, diskutil checks the disk so the volume as OK.

I think that Apple has a bug where diskutil fails to return the partition type.

But this me no bugs more closely to encrypt my backup volume.

Anyone have any idea what might be the 'problem' and how do I proceed?

  • When I want to burn a CD in Windows Media Player, it shows "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem when burning the file to disk". What's wrong? How to fix?

When I want to burn a CD in Windows Media Player, it shows "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem when burning the file to disk".    What's wrong? How to fix?

I tried several times to remove the selection to burn and create a new a new but it keep "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem when burning the file to delivery" appears what should I do?   What problem is it?

    Hello

    1. what file format you are trying to burn?

    2. have you made changes on the computer recently?

    3. What is the security software installed on the computer?

If it's something you downloaded, it may be copy protected by DRM, in which case you may not burn it to a CD or DVD.

Here are a few things to try:

    1. make sure that the disc is clean.

    2. try a different brand of blank discs.

    3. stop all other programs that are running.

    4. make sure that the hard drive does not use disk compression.

I suggest that you follow these steps and check if they help to solve the problem.

    Method 1:

Try to use the Troubleshoot utility to see if that solves the problem.

    a. open the troubleshooting Windows Media Player settings Troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.

    (b) in the search box, type "convenience store" and then click Troubleshooting.

    c. click on show all and then click the Windows Media Player settings.

    Method 2:

Select a recording speed (write) more slow for the CD burner.

Change settings for burning a CD or DVD in Windows Media Player

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/change-settings-for-burning-a-CD-or-DVD-in-Windows-Media-Player

    Method 3:

If you have any third-party burning software, I suggest you temporarily Uninstall it and then try to burn the disc using Windows Media Player.

Note: Reinstall the software after the trial.

    Method 4:

Temporarily disable all programs that could activate themselves, while burning is in progress, such as screensavers or anti-virus programs.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Run the computer without antivirus software or firewall is a potential threat to the computer; Be sure to activate security software after completing the troubleshooting steps and after identifying the problem.

    I hope this helps.

  • How to fix broken preferences

IN the preferences at the user login item the connection point that are in there would keep disappearing ever time I restarted my computer. Does anyone know how can fix.

I n iMac using the latest version of the software, El Capitan

    1. You use (or have you used in the past) any "cleaner" type utilities as CleanMyMac or MacKeeper? If you have, maybe that's the problem - they may have damaged your operating system. In this case, you will need to start over, wipe your hard drive and reinstall the operating system and applications from scratch.
    2. Here's what I would try otherwise:
      1. backup
      2. Use disk utility to repair your hard drive (first aid) https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201639
      3. If this does not work, reinstall El Cap on your current installation.
  • Z210 Workstation: EFI Image Restore failed - how to fix?

Some time previously, I installed a Win 7 64 bit OS to my Workstation Z210 manually using a MS. installation disc Then after a few other software installs and the mandatory and quite large OS updates that occur over time, I recently created a System Image on my USB HDD. I did not worth creating a startup of system repair disc, as I already had one from another system to Win7.

Now under the prepairing to sell this system, I thought I would try to restore the image of HP using HP Z210 recent system recovery disks. Unfortunately, just like a few years ago, the process failed with an unknown error after reboot.

No problem, I thought, since I got my Image from the previous system MS Win7

I tried my old boot system repair disc and I could see that MS Win7 system previous Image (represented by an EFI image) on my USB HDD. Unfortunately the image could not retrieve specifically, it failed with the message:

Windows cannot restore a system image on a computer with a different firmware. The system image was created on an EFI computer and this computer is using the BIOS.

So I checked this disc repair system and as suspected, it has only \boot and \sources directory and the file "bootmg" while MS Win7 install disk has the directories boot, /efi and /sources (amoungst a couple more) and the files 'bootmgr' and 'bootmgr.efi. Obviously MS decided that a system repair disc only has BIOS to start creating an installation on a system BIOS. Why MS would create such a frustrating limitation that I don't know

OK, simple solution would be to install Win7 MS EFI boot disc. So, insert my MS Win 7 installation disc in the DVD drive, restart and press F9, select source of boot EFI "hp CDDVDW SH-216AL" and press ENTER, the first message "press any key to boot from the CD or DVD... ». (This process should start the EFI to the installation DVD). Then the popup "Install windows" appears then I selects the appropriate time/currency area, click NEXT and select REPAIR...

Sounds simple, but it's a clumsy, such process designed by MS and I always get an error. Specifically, I get the following message:

This version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows that you want to repair. Try to use a recovery disc that is compatible with this version.

Thinking that there is some inconsistancy somewhere, I wipe the HARD drive (deleted then recreated the raid volume) and try again, but all I get is the message first or second start EFI or BIOS feature...

Don't know what type of volume (MBR or GPT) the raid creation process creates and if this has something to do with the problem

Anyone know what may be the problem and how to fix it?

Well, it seems that somewhere between the use of the HP system recovery discs and or the key CTRL-I raid removal volume and recreation, I'm probably done with a MBR partition on my HARD drive. And it seems that den of the system doesn't seem to like the MBR with basic images EFI partitions

I solved the problem by EFI boot my drive MS Win7 install via F9 Boot Manager and start the installation process. Once the HARD drive has been formatted and files began to be copied on the HARD drive I had the power to force button shuts down the system. Then I still started EFI MS Win7 disk install via F9 and as previously made my way to the REPAIR option where I could see my system on the USB HDD Image. However, this time, he took the image and proceeded to again restore MS Win7 created the partition on the raid volume that I had created earlier.

Not really "QED", but rather a roundabout process fix MS poorly designed the system recovery process...

Frankly, the system repair disc must always have independent MRD/EFI startup options of the system it is created from. And repair of the system should ignore the partition types when you crush the HARD complete with a picture disc. In addition, the boot disk message «press any key to boot from the CD or DVD...» "Please indicate an EFI or MBR before you start word. Anything less just adds to the confusion and having to jump through hoops to get around this madness is just silly

The long drive Self Test (DST) fault would indicate that hard is defective and must be replaced.

The disc is an element of guarantee and that your computer is listed as coming with Windows 8, it should still be under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disk replaced - if necessary, you can check the status of your warranty here.

  • Win XP SP3, no taskbar (tray) does AutoScan, no system restore, how to fix?

Everything was in good working order when I shut down my pc for the night.  The next morning, I tried to play a mp3 music file, but no sound. Then, I noticed that (the speaker icon) volume control icon was missing from the taskbar. I have rebooted, thinking that would restore the icon, but the result was that the taskbar all disappeared, leaving me with no start button, no way to access programs or tools.

Help and Support is not available, that is why it is the restoration of the system.  Via the Task Manager (file > new task > run) I can run programs and applications, but even if they seem to run, they do not work.
Has spent two full days, trying to solve this problem and I now want to reinstall Windows, but another question is: I have only the original CD of XP Home.  Installation of XP says my installation is newer than the one on the CD (my system installed a Service Pack 3 and all Windows updates), so it can not be repaired and resettlement (since the old XP CD) will cause all my existing files and programs are permanently lost. Is this true? We used to be able to reinstall over an existing installation of Windows, and it would be, indeed, to 'renew' the Windows installation, but leave our files, images, programs, etc. intact. As a graphic designer, I have a large number of files, pictures, programs and applications that cannot be replaced, and I can't risk losing them.
I have a sufficient margin on a D: / drive for everything on C: /, but wants that the wizard settings, and files on the XP CD to copy the content of two disks, so after a few hours of the collection of files, the wizard reports not enough room on D: / the transfer. I tried to burn to CD/DVD, but the wizard does not recognize my optical drives, only a floppy drive, and it would take hundreds of 1.44 MB floppies. I saw no floppy drive in stores for years and that a lot is not an option to purchase.
I have a laptop available (which I use to access this web site), but it's a Dell Latitude older with far enough disk space to contain a small amount of data that I need to move away from the broken Office.
The office with the problem began his life as a TigerDirect Systemax, with a 2.50 Ghz Intel processor, 1 GB of RAM, two HARD drives, each capacity of 60 GB, about 1/3 used on C: /, I need to save if possible, and about 1/4 used on D: / I could copy my files to D: / If the wizard would not copy the contents of D : / and C: /.
I can't find any way to select which copy other than the ability to choose or not choose certain types of files. No way to tell the Assistant is not to copy the D: / drive.
I would be very happy if:
    1. There is a way I can restore my taskbar and start button, (thus allowing me to access the tools to solve other problems that caused the problem);
    Or
    2. If I can simply reinstall XP on my existing installation without losing existing data (my programs, files, etc.)
Yes, I realize that it is time for a new operating system and probably a new machine, but I cannot and I do with what I have. Any help and suggestions would be welcome.

What's an error 5 - a permissions problem (you do not have permission).

Did you use a registry cleaner and if what you (and why you thought it would help)?

I love the good registry cleaners and have never had a problem with them, but there are of course a lot of horror stories and Council do not to use.  But I think as long as you have a plan for what to do and how to recover if your system fails or doesn't start at all after having used to have them home.

I have probably used/tired all and never had a problem.  Can not say something very good has happened except that I could see the report of all the unwanted that he removed, for the most part, uninstall of products that do not do a good job of cleaning after themselves (even Microsoft products) and felt better then think things were more to the less net because I could see all unwanted leftovers that was deleted.

Reinstalling XP is never an option for me.  my XP has been installed and works very well after almost 10 years.  There are too many people who need to be able to fix their system and they have no installation CD for so never had a she, lost the dog has eaten, etc, or their system does not have a CD/DVD drive even if they could come with an installation CD.

  • In Vista, after running SFC Scannow, it shows my Spoolss.dll is corrupted, how to fix this?

I ran a scan sfc to help determine why my print spooler does not work.  Details of said scan my Spoolss.dll file is corrupt and could not be projected based on because the source file is also corrupt.  How to fix this?

    Hello

Borrow Vista disc a friend if you can - they are not copy protected - it must be a
full commercial copy or real OEM for your computer brand and model.

Other options: (run checkdisk first to make sure corruption is not a problem).

    and restart SFC/scannow.

Don't you installed SP1 if not install it.

If you have installed SP1 do you have SP2 installed or install.

If you have installed SP2, and then uninstall - reboot - and then reinstall it.

    I hope this helps.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

How to install a device driver in Vista Device Manager
    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-Device-Manager-install-driver.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

Refer to these discussions because many more excellent advice however don't forget to check your antivirus
