How to increase code efficiency in a while loop (using PXI5105 for sampling outside signal digitalizer)

Theoretically, we want the PXI-5105 (digitizer) have 302 record with each record has a 1260 sample (the save operation is inside a while loop) in approximately 30ms, however we have found that for each period (30ms), the PXI5105 only perform about 10 records. It is so wired. I wonder if the operations inside the while loop consume more time (for example 3MS), so that he cannot have 302 records even the PXI-5105 have 60 M/s speed of sampling. Is it true, you can find my labview code and if possible can you give me some suggestion in the most short time of operation of the loop.

Please find attached labview code.

Hi g_l_g_s,

The digitizer PXI-5105 acquires data at the speed that you specify and stores the data in its memory embedded (up to 512 MB). The data is then sent to your computer when the Multi Fetch Cluster.vi is called. In VI that you posted, you are only fetch record during each while the loop iteration. If you want to retrieve 302 records you will need to specify 302 files in the horizontal Timing.vi to configure. For more information about scanners, you might find the DevZone, hereuseful.

To determine the amount of time it takes for each while the loop iteration, you can consider using the structure of code in the example comparison community calendar, which is located here.

You can try with scriptlistener to record the code. Change to the last line of the NO to ALL dialog boxes, so that the dialog - if you wish. There are two places in the code to save the files: one where is actually saved the file, and the other where the default value is file. I have seen it changed something with it. So, you can simply use the first listing of a path in the code below.

  • Code Golf: stop two while loops with guaranteed ratio iteration

    Proposal

In the vein of the tradition of Perl, I would like to see if there is any interest to solve a few puzzles programming in LabVIEW. Can someone post a problem and define the rules to solve.

Here's a question for beginning/intermediate to sharpen your "palette".

    Description

With a user action, how you would stop two while loops such as the relationship between iterations is the still the same? Concrete to view this situation is to take action: both instruments use the same source of synchronization to take measures, but second divides the clock down so that it is a little slower than the first whole factor. For example, if the slower instrument is four times slower, then at the end of the VI, the slower instrument takes 100 measures the fastest instrument took 400.

    Rules

    • You can use vi.lib

If we choose the first suggestions, the VI has yet to recover the data at different speeds. You can dedicate a loop for each instrument to disassociate a jitter and latency introduced by their connectivity or the inner workings. This adds a margin of safety when there is a conflict of thread and the pilot. You can also implement a simple counting as altenbach loop and renounce the multiloop complexity.
    [..]

It is a very good point. But I wanted to make sure, you should / need to discuss the benefits, but also the disadvantages of the design. Implementation of an application is most often a process of 'special cases '. If a framework/design for a single application model does not necessarily correspond to another application.

Designs are always strongly according to the requirements and constraints. What gives here designs will result in educational services, of course, but not necessarily as reference models for specific applications.

    Advantage of simple loop:

    • No synchronization between several loops required
    • Can easily implement any whole factor between services (quotent & function remains for a case structure

    Disadvantage of simple loop:

    • Take advantage of the multi core systems (at least not much)
    • Can easily run out of the time constraints (material not "not responding" enough, fast manipulation of data takes too long,...)
    • Code will accumulate within the structures of the case, where the readability could suff

    The advantage of multiple loops:

    • See essentially the disadvantages of single loop (several loops solve those)

    Disadvantage of multiple loops:

    • More complex, especially for the sync switch (not beginner friendly, requires a more/better design)
    • May contain easily questions source such as race conditions and locks

    A little side note:

Even if the equipment works different acquisition rate, this does not necessarily that the software must use different rates for data extraction. You can use the same model of an hour, but get X times more values for the task faster than the slower running. The 'only' thing to care of are the sizes of buffers and bottlenecks in the data transfer.

No, it's not laughable. For many applications, this approach to shutter at the same time several loops running is OK. The constraint: only for simple parallel running loops.

More complex loops (producer/consumer and similar) with the more complex data relationship ships require more valiant approaches such as queues, declaring events or user.

  • How to 'continue' a 'while' loop using an "if"?

I have a loop 'while' continuous operation, by taking a step at each iteration. In each such iteration I save this measure unique to the file AND display it on a chart. From time to time, I have "out-of-range" measures, which are displayed as 1E-37 or 1E + 37 on the graph and poured on the record, and are not relevant (for me, it is). With the help of a simple interpreter, like python, I could use an 'if' statement to check if the reading is indeed irrelevant and if so, 'continue' in the loop 'while' so that it stops the current iteration and starts a new.

How we not implements such a thing in LabVIEW?

    Thank you

    Amit

    Hi Amit,

There was no 'cynicism', not at all! You ask a few notions of LabVIEW base so I suggested where to find that...

"but this would require having wrap all code inside the"while"loop."

OK, then you should explain the difference of a IF/THEN construct textual languages. Made a simple

    IF test

    {do something here}

    ON THE OTHER

    {do something here}

not wrap the code inside a structure?

A CASE structure does exactly the same thing and I don't see anything more simple as followed by comparison of two cases. What is complicated in a case around another structure design code?

  • How to make a graphic inside a while loop to maintain the previous values

At first I tried to use a the VI Express XY graphics to create a track of points.  However, the chart is a trace linear between the first point in the new line and the last point of the previous line.  It then creates the new line as you wish.

I tried to use a loop with group a cluster for the chart, but the chart resets the plot at each iteration (as expected) and I can't find a way to maintain the previous data.  I tried using shift registers, but was unable to find a way to do it, and I tried also the cluster of a painting company, but can not find a way to make the cluster to a 1 d of a cluster of 2 elements array.

One option is to have is to find a way to maintain the previous data, but the preferred option is to create a new path to each iteration to see the color change for each new parcel.

I take stabbed it because I don't know exactly what you want. But I think that's what I've shown here. You must use a shift on your outside register while loop, as I showed. Your image where you tried to use a shift register shows a misunderstanding of the shift registers and how well they work, then I'd take a peek at these tutorials.

  • How to control a VI (with a while loop and a structure of the event) from an another VI

    Hello

I have the main VI which I want to be driven from an another VI. But I can't do that and I don't know what is happening.

For example: VI main, I have a while loop with a structure of the event, there is a Boolean controller controlling a Boolean LED, which is inside the structure of the event. And the other VI, there is just a Boolean controller and functions of applications to open the main VI.

How can I control the Boolean LED in VI main, changing the State of the Boolean controller in an another VI?

    Thank you.

There are different options, but depending on what you want to do. For this example I can't give you a specific solution.

I do not understand why you do what you do. Why do you call your 'principle VI' dynamically? What is the advantage to do? There are also other ways to call a VI dynamically, based on real cases (for example the method "call and forget", etc...).

In you principle VI, control you Boolean ("THATCHER") is not the case of corresponding event. This is not usually a good practice, keep it inside.

Also, why you try to communicate with the caller and callee VI through such a way to twist? There are better ways to do it.

In one of my projects, I use the user event to launch orders in case of case of appellant VI.

  • How to increase the resolution of the timer loop?

    Hi all

I use myRIO 1900 for my project of Active noise cancellation. I need to process the audio signal @44. rate of 1 kHz sampling and 50 samples per image. So, I use myRIO personality of broadband.

Now my problem is simple, I want to measure the time each iteration (loop). I went for the number of cycles normal (msec). Used as a standard [https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-11078].

But my value of the indicator oscillates between 1 and 2. It is supposed to be 1.13msec, but how to find the exact value of timer?

I think, I can't increase the resolution of tick count (msec) as it is by default is 1 ms resolution and I can't use the clock source external I use myRIO.

Help me calculate the precise time of loop.

    Thank you.

RT has express VIs for timers.  You can use this: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361J-01/lvexpress/tick_count/

  • How to increase a number 1 in a loop

Hi This is slightly more difficult that the title reads I think.

I have some time the com port to detect a switch being turned on or off by a looping rs232 loopback

If I get an error of judgement, no error on.

I want to do is multiply by 1 when the switch is in the off position, but for the moment

just constantly increase as the function '+ 1' is in a loop.  How can I do more

    the number of times.

The loop should run continuously if the switch is on or off

I hope this makes sense, I have attached a picture of what he does now

I look forward to your suggestions.

One way is to use a flag.  I have change the true flag as soon as the thing turns on, then wrong again until the next time it is turned on.

There may be better solutions, but this is the first thing that comes to mind.

EDIT: My example is what said Cristian.  Beat me to it.

  • How to send the value of inside while loop outside

    Hello

The goal of my project is to control the height of a ball in a tube (there is a fan down low to lift the ball to the top and bottom) and a Top ultrasound sensor read the distance of the ball.

I am currently using a PWM signal to control the speed of the fans (which works fine) and I use the VISA blocks read/write to communicate to my sensors (which works also very well - I can get the distance to the ball - when I move the ball up and down changing the duty cycle).

    My problem:

Now, to create a control problem, I need read the distance of the ball, have some sort of controller and feed in this output as my new duty cycle for the fans... However, I need loops I have (running fans and continuous sensors to run (I guess? unless there is a way around it.) so the fans continue to work and sensors keep reading.) I need to get the measure of the distance of the loop of the sensor (after its been read) passed out of the loop and to be updated of course - then calculations can be made on that and then can be used as my duty.

Someone in a way that I can do this? Its all tied to your reference, version of labview 8.6.

    Thanks heaps!

    Nick.

  • get the structure of the event inside the while loop to wait for event occurs before the execution

    Hello

I have a small problem, when I raise an event using a value change button, which works very well.  The problem is that the VI does not wait for me raise an event and instead runs the same event again, even if I have not pressed the button to start again.  The mechanical action of the button switch is released is.

I was wondering how you get the structure of the event to wait for a user event, after that he executed the first time.

    James.Morris wrote:

There is no reason that the event should be raised twice as much that the only way that it fires in your code is by the user by clicking on 'Hall measure only'.

Oh yes, there is, and I deserve a kudo for this one.  Mechanical action on the button is set on the switch until published, so click to generate an event, on the bottom and on the square, attached is an example.

My boy has my students hate this question, and to be honest, I hated it.  When never would you do that intentionally?  Honestly?  Anyway to change the button back to normal (as default latch when released) and move the terminal button in the structure of the event where it is managed and it will work as usual.

  • How can we enter and update digital panel forward when a young while loop runs?

    Hi all

In my code, I have a while loop making quick gripping (sampling)

How can I update other digital controls in the front panel when the while loop runs?

right now, once I have enter a number in this digital control, the computer seems to be no answer to the elbow. Looks like the computer focuses on the while loop.

    any ideas are appreciated.

    Thank you
