How to leave machine machine virtual ESX v3.5 for Vsphere v4.1?

Hello

I would like our VMS ESX v3.5 to a new VShere v4.1.

Virtual machines are Windows 2003, RedHat 4 and 5.

I wouldn't have any impact on the machine esource th.

Methods:

(1) stop the virtual machines, copy the folder with vmdk from the old data to the new store data + Start new store + install the new VmWare Tols

OR

(2) use the Option migrate (change the host + Datastore), works for the RedtHat Machines

Thanks for the reply

Welcome to the Forums - both will work but I use cold migrate method change of host and the data store.

  • SQL 2005 Ent on machine virtual ESX 3.5

I built a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise VM inside VMware (ESX Server 3.5 Update 3) host. We have Celerra NS20 Unifided EMC storage, which is where the server VM using different LUN. Does anyone have recommendations on installation of SQL 2005 Enterprise on a given server to Win2k3 VM, with regard to the way in which it must be installed in order to get the best performance and reliability... I'm looking for suggestions as SQL must be installed on the drive main hard and stored on a different LUN or SQL databases must be installed on a different LUN of the operating system? I intend setting up a LUN specifically for newspapers, so to keep separated from traffic, but wonder about the base installation of SQL and databases...

Thanks for any advise you might have.

It is a big question.  Here are a few things I do in this case...

    • Do not install anything - even the binary SQL on C

    • Prune/use a VMFS RAID5 for the SQL programs and databases on a volume

    • Want/use a VMFS RAID1 for newspapers

There are 2 important things here.  One is that you have isolated the OS - DB and registers all logical drives different worms.  It is very nice to be able to make a hot grow of these disks

The other is more for performance.  It depends on how transactional (how'RE Ops / s) the system will be.  In most cases, you should be able to have the other VM to share these same volumes, but changing the RAID level can provide a performance gain based on how the data are accessible.

I don't know if it would be necessary to isolate a VMFS LUNS () set to the SQL database for a virtual machine.  It is a function of your SAN infrastructure and how hard the VM SQL is hit.

We have several virtual machines with DB on the same LUN, and so far it hasn't appeared to cause problems.  You can always start with a more conservative approach and slowly add that you feel comfortable.

  • How to create machines virtual iOS?

On the page of VMWare Fusion 4 it is said:

"VMware Fusion 4 is the best way to develop and test new applications for the Mac and iOS."

However, I can't for the life of me understand how we could create virtual machines of iOS.

Wouldn't practically to emulate the entire A4 processor in order to run any iOS?

It's just a typo on the Web site, or have I missed something?

    Thank you

    Josh

Welcome to the community - as far as I know what IOS will not work on x 86 architecture, so you notice be able to create a virtual machine from IOS - I think you would have to treat it as if you were developing on a MAC or regular Windows-

  • From machines virtual ESX 3.5 to 4.0 help

I need to move virtual machines that reside on a box of ESX 3.5 and put on a case of ESX 4.0 currently.  Virtual machines live on the network so SAN is just as easy to move files to a SAN to another?   Or is it also a process of upgrading involved?    Thanks for the help.

If you just move the virtual machines to another host SAN and ESX 4 they will run. However, it would be nicer if also upgrade you the hardware of the VMS to version 7 and also upgrade the VMware tools. Do not forget that after upgrading hardware to virtual machines to version 7, you will not be able to bring back the virtual machines on an ESX 3.5 host.

  • Weird question on which the machine virtual ESX 3.5i

    Hello world

I have a question very very weird on 2 x HP DL380 G5 boxes with ESX 3.5i U3 loaded on each.

    The installation program:

    DL380 G5

    2 x Quad core

    2 x 72 GB Raid 1 + 0

    6 x 146 GB Raid5

    32 GB OF RAM

I installed esx 3.5i u3 according to the normal, created vm. But when I copy data to a network in the virtual machine folder spikes the cpu and the virtual machine does not respond. What makes it worse, is if I copy a large file on the c: to another folder on c: VM does not - high cpu and ping meets about 200ms. vmdk bones all over the 72 GB Raid 1 + 0 datastore. When I add a data from the store of raid5 data drive the same phenomenon occurs. If I copy the c to this drive on the raid 5 data store the virtual machine gets does not and pings hover at about 200ms.

    Any ideas?

I have no idea why this is happening, Ive deployed the same configuration with a bunch of vm and no problem.

I don't think its network since you said that you have the same problem copy from c: to c: on the same machine.

Looks like the machine is waiting for e/s finish. Check if you can see if I/O is blocked somewhere

Are there messages in the system log of Windows indicating disk problems?

Check your RAID controller. It is on the HCL?

Your write cache is configured correctly?

  • Recommendations for his new laptop of VMware Workstation 7 run machines virtual esx

I'm about to buy a new laptop and I'm looking for something that is reasonably priced and that will be able to help me study for the new vcp tests by installing esx4 inside the workstation.

If you know any good portable that won't break the Bank that will work for sure for this, I would really appreciate your advice.

    Thanks for your help.

I have the p9600 (2.66 GHz with 6 MB of cache) in mine.  You can just call and order and ask anything you want.  Sometimes (as in my case) they will have processors that are not yet listed yet.  I think the max is just at 3 GHz.  I usually run 3 VMs at a time, or I'll run my team (4 virtual machines) and another 1 or 2 with them.  I used for my RHCT practice stuff and it will use for my VCP and MCITP Enterprise Administrator practice as well.  I had with Vista x 64, but put Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 on it when he came in (MSDN).

  • MACHINE virtual Xen to OVF for VMWare

I can use Citrix tools to create the OVF BUT the OVF doesn't use files on the disc that is compatible VMWare... must be vmdk´s

The next step is to use VMWare Converter to create wmdk´s and treat the virtual machine as physical... BUT how can I create them in OVF so I can import them into Director Cloud (only supports OVF)?

Should I use a temporary installation of VMWare version something (perhaps Workstation or player) and then export them to this system as OVF?

  • How can I move the "Virtual Machines" folder to the My Documents folder?

VMwareFusion is to put the "Virtual Machines" folder in the Documents folder in the home folder (/users/ [username] / Documents), how can I move elsewhere (as/Library/Application Support)? The user Documents folder is not the right place for automated it system files, it is intended for personal documents.

I am running VMware Fusion on OS X Yosemite (and the virtual machine is Windows 7).

You can keep your virtual machines anywhere you want. Here are the steps to move:

1 exit VMware Fusion. You can stop first of all of your running virtual machines.

    2. drag your virtual computers folder or the individual VM "files" where you / them. Filenames usually end in ".vmwarevm". There is no need to call the new folder "Virtual Machines" - you can call it anything you like.

    3. Launch VMware Fusion. If the library of the Virtual Machine window is not open, open it (Windows menu-> Virtual Machine library).

    4. ensure that all of your icons for the virtual machine are light gray and say "file not found".

    5. right click on each virtual machine in turn, and select Remove. When you are done, leave the window of Machine virtual library empty open.

    6. in the Finder, drag the icons of file virtual machine in their new location and drop them in library of virtual machines VMware Fusion window. Drop them one by one in the original order, you got, or rearrange icons later.

    7. run your virtual machines as before.

When you create new virtual computers, navigate to the desired file before the Save.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you your folder of Machines ~/Documents/Virtual excluded from backups Time Machine, don't forget to change the exclusion to the new folder.

Time Machine backups are not reliable for virtual machines. You must have another strategy. (I shut the virtual machine down, compress the 'file', and then move the compressed file to a folder that is included in the Time Machine backups. This isn't the only strategy, but it works for me.)

  • addition of virtual machine / Server esx for production environment

    Hello

How can we add virtual machine or esx server for production environment?

In general... As his "simple terms?

    Install ESXi host

Install, run and connect to the host via the gateway client installed from the host on an external workstation

    Then

    OR THE OTHER

Install and run the converter on each physical computer that you want to become a virtual machine

Once finished, turn off power to virtual and physical.

    OR

Create a virtual machine and install the o/s CD drive.

What you want is way off the coast without 1 million questions about your installation.

  • Transfer a Virtual Machine in Esx 2.5 to an ESX 4.1

    Hi all

For a client, I need to transfer 3 virtual machines on an ESX 2.5 in stand-alone mode (local storage / VMFS2) for a new ESX 4.1 (local storage / VMFS3)

I'm looking for a solution but without success. I see two ways to to do, but I can't test it before the migration, so could you give me your advice.

    (1) I copy all virtual machines in ESX 2.5 to the new storage to ESX 4.1 with scp.

I create the virtual machine with the vmdk

    I put the last VmTools

    Upgrade virtual hardware

    (2) I have try the VmConverter username but I don'k know if he recognizes the VM Esx 2.5

    Is there another solution?

  • HO to import a virtual machine in esx host

    Hi all,

I have a cluster of small esx (2host clustered in a datacenter) manged by a machine virtual vcenter. Now, I installed an esx on a small host outside the cluster, do some test activities that must be totally separate from my cluster of production.

Before you perform the test esx host, I created some virtual machines in the production cluster. Now I want to import into my test esx host without have to reinstall them. Can I do this? the only way to achieve that I thought is to add my existing test in my data center host, leaving outside the cluster. then move my vms and remove it then, to manage alone.

Is this possible without any risk to my cluster of production? is there any other solutions?

    Thank you very much

    Paolo

Yes, but you cannot connect a free version, you need a license.

To not change your existing cluster, simply add the host in the data center (so it's outside the cluster).

When you are finished, just disconnect and remove the unused host.

  • Take a snapshot of a lun SAN: How do I disassemble the virtual machine?

SAN is FC 9958E Hitachi, ESX 3.5 update 2.

I try to take a snapshot of a lun (with a virtual machine in this regard) san and must turn off the virtual machine and disassemble the VMFS virtual machine so I can do that there is no I/O will the lun when I take the snapshot.

How can I (of) a virtual machine of the VMFS without making the other virtual machines running in the same cluster? I know that the VMFS is a system of shared files grouped campaigns, exclusive property of vmware. Does anyone know the command to use?

If anyone has any info on this subject, it would be great.

This is the documentation is 1.5 ESX, released in 2002.

The command no longer exists in recent versions.
