Help, please.  We have set up a working group, the destop with Windows XP behaves as the server and laptop with Windows Vista is the other computer.

We can share and open all files.

The problem is with a mortgage loan software. (Chalice)  On the Vista computer, when you try to open a file, we get the error "the file is used by someone else.  You want to open the file in read-only Mode? "We have worked with their Tech Support who insists on the fact that it's a Microsoft set up the problem with the server computer.  In their diagnosis, they say that the cause may be "the server has locked files or you don't have full access to the records.  Their Technical Support remotely connected to our two computers and verified that we have the network set in place correctly-"everyone" has full control of the files.  Both computers have disabled the Windows Firewall.  How can I check if the file is locked by the server?  And why would he block specifically for mortgage loan software?  Any other troubleshooting help would be most appreciated.  They have guaranteed that this software can run on both Windows XP Vista computers & a set.

Another question - when I right click on the folder that this error message, and then click Properties, on the general tab, attributes, the 'Read only' box is populated with a solid green box.  It can also be a check mark or a cache.  I deleted the solid green box and tick, apply settings, but still no luck.  What is the difference between the solid green box and the checkbox for that?

Thank you to those who can help - we are really at a loss!

    Hello

Please note that it may depend on the versions of Vista and Win 7 you have.

RTD connection consists on the client computer (the computer that initiates the connection) and a host (the computer on which the connection will too.

All versions of Windows can act as Clients.

    Can host only Vista/Win 7 Pro/ultimate/Ent.

Therefore, if you have the OS Home versions', you might be out of luck.

    # You have need Vista compatible drivers - it's the only way it will work.  Installing bad drivers can even to hurt the unit or even your system to not try.  Get a new USB device that works with Vista, and has the correct drivers.

    I hope this helps.

  • Beep of the Windows Vista-based computer

My windows vista makes a beep sound in a two time repeat, beep beep and my screen turns with it, I tried the monitor on another computer and it worked, I think it's maybe a graphics card. And if it is where in my computer can I fix?

    Hello

"beep" codes normally indicate a hardware problem / failure.

Go to your computer manufacturer's website and look at the specifications of your PC to see what BIOS you have

Then read this on the 'beep' error codes to try to see what failed:

    http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

    http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/nonworkingcomponent/HT/beepcodestb.htm

If you are unable to determine the hardware problem yourself, contact the manufacturer if under warranty.

If it is not under warranty, find a good repair shop premises to take.

    See you soon.

  • Remote Desktop - Windows Vista-based computer to a Windows 7 computer on a local network in my office

I have a laptop Windows Vista Home Premium that is trying to connect to my Windows 7 desktop. It worked fine when my desktop computer was Windows XP and I was running the same laptop Vista Windows 7, I am now.

What has changed? I have a modem/router to two sons and has not changed the settings. I just tried opening port 3389 and cutting the firewall of Windows with the same results.

I have a VPN and the game works fine.

Get remote desktop dialog box for opening and saving in and I know that it is configured correctly, because when I take my Vista laptop to the office the RD connection works fine and I can see and I work on my Windows 7 desktop computer, so the problem is either something on my home network or with my ISP - using DSL - ideas?

  • Adding data sources on the Windows Vista-based computer

I have ColdFusion on my local workstation and I'm looking to add a data source by using the administrator Web site. It worked perfectly on my previous XP machine, but it does not work on my new Windows Vista machine. The data source is a Microsoft Access database stored locally on the c:\ drive. After clicking on the "send" button, the site administrator returns this error message:

    Cannot update the NT registry.
    DRIVERPATH variable is not defined.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Windows Vista is not supported with CF 7. You have three options:
-Try the CF 8 'Scorpio' beta from http://labs.adobe.com/
-use a database that works with the driver of JDBC Type 4 over TCP/IP
    -use a supported operating system

  • Not able to play the game Metro 2033 on Windows Vista-based computer.

I just installed the game Metro 2033 on my Vista system that uses a 1080 screen.  In fact, I have two identical screens.

The game requires activation Steam and Steam normally will attempt to update the program rather than simply enable it during installation.  This leaves a person in the dark as to what happens during the installation.

It turns out, I use a 3G modem that Steam refuses to support their network of Bit Torrent, so download speed for an update of a concert is around 12 kb/s or 8 hours to make the point on a program that has not yet installed.

After work, I was quite surprised to find that the program would not go on Steam.  He then took a few hours to find out that there is a solution, that I could load the game by running the executable file that had been installed in the directory Steam for Metro 2033.

Unfortunately Metro2033, when started this default way a unknown screen resolution.  Thus when the game is started from the Steam directory nested, one gets a message "out of range" on the display of 1080 and nothing can be seen.

Short of launching the game out, I tried the game again, to my great joy, the second run displays a safe mode issue and I ran it in safe mode.  It is quite an exciting game and I played it all night.  However, I had also contacted support original THQ regarding installation problem/solution.

Then I fell asleep.  The PC was on.

The next day, I played the 2003 Metro game again, but I entered in some difficult areas of the game, and I had to reload the saved game.  After awhile, I opted to exit the program.  Later, I started the program, but this time I inadvertently clicked on the Metro2033 icon who had installed Steam.   In my solution, I had pasted a link to the directory of Steam under the original icon and had pressed the wrong button.

Of course, the first thing I saw, after playing the game for 12 hours, was "out of range".  I opted to return to the office...

... However I couldn't come back on the Vista desktop.  I have a 7000, and even Microsoft Entertainment keyboard by pressing the buttons of Windows or Media center wouldn't let me come back to the office.

The day before, I needed to do this that I've experienced to workaround to start getting and I noticed that the only way I could get on the desktop to run the Task Manager to kill the out of range on my screen message has been to press the Media Center button.

Once the Media Center menu on breaking the subway 2003 menu I could then enter the office and use the Task Manager.

However, the next day when I inadvertently started the STEAM version, and again, the screen is become black and says 'Out of Range', I found that my system was stuck in this loop.  No way to get in the Manager of tasks at all, not even with the Media center button on my keyboard.

Now the background of my question.  When I was forced to start my system again, I noticed the normal BIOS screen and the bar of Vista with Vista is loading, then the familiar sound of Vista boot, but now NO SCREEN at all on startup!  Now, something had inserted a driver in my Vista start which forced my display say "Out of Range" from the start of the desktop of Vista and Vista computer has not yet noticed this.  Normally, I would think that they claim that the screen resolution is wrong and put it on, instead, nothing else than the out of range message rigid or flexible boots.

Original title: can someone tell me what happened here? Metro2033 and steam game.

I checked by plugging my second monitor.   The system has Safe Mode startup and I was able to do a restore of the system from the previous day to evening to return to the office.   However, I am quite confused as to what happened.  How the Metro 2033 problem "out of range" migrate to Windows startup by running an update of Steam?

I use the latest service pack for Vista.

It seems that the STEAM snuck in an update and then everything worked fine.
