  The razor default command (Ctrl + K like you currently have mapped it;) I use Ctrl + B, but there is no functional difference) slices only through the tracks that are being targeted.   the least local resources would be by having a single instance of the netstream and by switching the stream when you want.  because these flows is downloading so there will be a (short) lag when switching.

  If this delay is not acceptable, then you must do what you are currently doing with multiple netstream instances if you want among all instances paused.

  If you don't want to use a remote control with your computer, the best thing to do is just turn off the IR. (System preferences > Security > general, click on the Advanced button in the lower right corner - if the button is dimmed, click the lock icon and enter your administrators password)

  If you want to continue using your remote computer, then you must match your remote computers with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with Apple TV.

  To match a remote control with a device hold down menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see an icon of the chain on screen (better take the computer in another room, or turn it off, when you do)
