  I don't remember having this problem in cs3 which I use for awhile, but I just spent in cs5 and after playing with the options and Google search I have not been able to understand.

  As for your problem, it's happens due to anti-aliasing of your selection is at the origin of the semi-transparent pixels around the edges of your selection. If you want to continue using the quick selection for this tool, then you get rid of the selected half pixels: after you have made your choice, switch to quick mask (Q) mode, go to Image-> adjustments-> threshold and then exit the Quick Mask mode.   After the grass as in the link above, you will probably have to crop the image

  If the grass is square and seamless.

  Select the Rectangle tool and choose the size fixed and enter 512 px x 512 px.
