How to recover windows system when it is destroyed hard drive and not COA?

I'm sure that many people have encountered this problem. My system, including hard drive, was destroyed by an electrical surge, and I had no record of the serial number of the product.  I had a valid installation of Win XP - How can I get a new number to use for my replacement system?

The answer depends on many factors that you don't specify.  Most of the OEM machines (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.) have an OEM license that is valid for the first machine that it has been installed on.  If your motherboard was part of the 'system' that has been fried, your license was probably fried with it.  Some OEM licenses are locked to the BIOS of the motherboard so that if you replace the motherboard by the same jury from the same manufacturer, then the original installation disc can recognize it and install Windows XP without even asking for authentication.

And it is this:

Otherwise, you might consider this a good time to upgrade to Windows 7.

  • Satellite L300-110 - how to recover without losing any data on the HARD drive?

    Hi all
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-110

The question is how can I recover my laptop with the recovery DVD without losing all the data located in the hard drive?

I confirm the information published by Luke.
The HARD drive and all other partitions should be formatted using the recovery disk.
Why? The recovery disc sets the laptop to factory settings and to this end, the HARD drive must be formatted first.

That is why it s is strongly recommended to back up the data if you want to use the recovery disk.

  • How can I keep my messages or folder on my local hard drive and not be an IMAP folder as local folder is

I was a little confused on the way Thunderbird handles the local folder. My local folder is not strictly local, but IMAP as my account records. I would like to be able to unload some of my old files on my hard drive and have them always accessible via Thunderbird. The question becomes greater now that I use a lot of server space, and since this is a business account that I would rather not remove them. I want to archive them. I tried archive but it is just another IMAP folder and so is my local files. Initially, I found having the local convenient IMAP folders because I could file emails from multiple email addresses into common folders and easily get to them via my PC or my laptop because they are IMAP.
All I want to do now is to archive some of my old emails, so they are no longer on the server. How can I do to make it. I thought it should be an easy thing but now after having spent a few hours looking for a solution and finding I'm frustrated. Everything I've read suggests that the local folder should be stored on my hard don't drive not the server, but this isn't my experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I use Thunderbird 24.3)

In fact, even if I go on once again, I'm more invested in what happens with IMAP and used space.
It is obvious, from some recent exchanges here records them are "local."

In the account settings > server settings.
Check cleaning (": Remove") is turned on and then exit and restart Thunderbird.

Then check your use of space on the server, after that Thunderbird and the server took a while to 'chat '.

My guess as to what is happening, is that the IMAP account is not erasing, so deleted mail is there, stay hidden because it is removed but continues to occupy the space.

  • How to install windows 7 on a laptop after hard drive crash?

I have a G60-235DX laptop where the hard drive is going bad.  It came with Windows Vista installed and then has been upgraded via the program from windows 7 to windows 7.  The hard drive is bad and now only works when it feels like it.  I have a replacement hard drive on the road and want to be able to reinstall windows 7 without having to pay anything.  Is it possible to do?  I don't like on the files on the computer, only the operating system.  Can I do something?  Thanks in advance!

Yes, the disc is a disc 'upgrade', but you should not need to upgrade to Vista. According to "SUPERSITE of Thurrott", you should be able to install multimedia upgrade without a previous installation and activate it. The key seems to penetrate the Windows product key, that the installation is completed, instead of first application. Please try this and let us know how it goes.

  • How to install Windows 7 upgrade on a blank hard drive

My previous installation of Windows 7 upgrade on my hard drive that had a Windows XP installed upgrading later had a HD failure. I bought a new HD and have not been able to perform a reinstallation of Windows 7 using either the previous update purchased DVD. How can I install my upgrade to Windows 7 on the new HD?

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

I did find something online that contains all the system boot or start specific drivers. Windows and harddrive was working in another computer just before he was switched. Let me know if you need other information.

    Thank you.

First of all you are missing probably a number of device drivers, particularly the network card driver and the driver of the motherboard.  Use your XP disk to perform a repair installation.  This should go a long way toward you're going to get.  If your new box has a driver disc that should help a lot.  You can't port XP perfectly the way you did.   It usually requires a repair installation to fix the hardware abstraction layer. • How to recover my data stored on an external hard drive now that I use a MAC

I bought a Sea Gate 2 to external hard drive for my Dell PC a few months back.  It saved my whole computer and check everyday for any extra stuff back up.  Recently, I switched to a MAC, and in a prime time could not open at all.  However, I called door seafarers and they helped me set up my Mac so now I can open it as a hard drive.  However I still do not see the material recorded from my PC.  I was told that Windows has somehow compress the files when it is saved as a backup, and this is perhaps why I can't see my old files.  If anyone has any ideas I'd love to help.

It's really a question you need to ask the experts of Mac (choose the forum that pertains to your variety of Mac).  However, the information that anyone who will help you needs to know is what software created backup files.  In other words, what "saved" your computer?

For example, you use Windows Ntbackup?  You use software provided with the Seagate drive?

If you can open the Seagate on Mac disk, configure your Mac to be able to show file name extensions (the letters after the dot): http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh825.html and register this file extension to your aid application.

  • Satellite A100 - how to install "Windows XP MCE" on a new HARD drive?

I have a laptop Satellite A100-495. the cd/dvd does not work and I have a new hard drive. Now, I want to install the original os (windows xp professional, mce).
I'm trying to put the files of my original restore on a USB cd but never works and I did not find useful clues in any part of the forum.

Is there anyone out there who can help me?

    Hi, marawe

It would never work if you just copy the files from recovery Cd on a usb key. You need to make a BOOTABLE FLASH DISK, to do you need an application like Flashbot... Google.
Download and install it, after that you can make a bootable usb key.
You should know that your Bios must support boot with a Usb key, I don't know about your knees. Otherwise, you cannot do so. Hope it works

  • How can I get my favorites on an old hard drive and transfer them to another hard drive?

the motherboard is dead on my old desktop - but the hard drive is still usable. I got a new office and a friend added the old hard drive from my old computer (which has all my favorite firefox somewhere) on my new computer. Now I have two hard drives on a computer - one that came with the new computer - and my old - so, I'm now able to move all my pictures and files, etc. - and even found the bookmarks of Internet Explorer - but, I can't seem to find bookmarks in firefox. I look under Program Files - and I have-see Mozilla Firefox but don't see the bookmarks. I have searched for it - tried the answers that the mozilla site says to do it - but I can't find them. can anyone help? Thank you

Bookmarks are not stored in the Program Files folder, but rather in their own folder profile 'hidden '.
This link will show you where Firefox holds all of your information and what are the files to be transferred through

To access your profile folder, while in Firefox, click the new menu button on the right side of the navigation bar, click Help, and then click troubleshooting information. In the Applications section base, click the Show folder. The window that opens will be your profile folder.

Because you want your bookmarks, you should enter places.sqlite and then put them in the profile folder in your new hard drive with Firefox closed

  • Local tech installed Windows Vista Home Premium after a hard drive failure. However, my key is Windows Basic. Is the copy, he put on my system illegal?

    Genuine Windows clean install

    Hello

I had a problem with my laptop Acer Extensa 5230th. It was not started and so I took for Matech computers.  They diagnosed as having a mechanical drive problem.  So they replaced the drive and installed a more recent version of windows vista on.  Note: I haven't bought a new copy of vista family premium, he said he was going to reinstall vista.  It had windows Vista Home Basic, it has installed vista Home premium and said that he had validated by call from windows, but I'm suspicious because I don't think you can use a base of windows key to validate Home premium!  It means that he has put on an illegal version on windows or used the genuine key that came with the laptop.

In addition, on computers of brands, if this happens again, how is a technician for legally to reinstall the original windows that it came with the new hard drive? How to install windows vista basic on the new hard drive by using the original key to make it genuine? What windows installation disc would you require? or is it easier to just buy a new copy of windows?  I heard that many technicians, prefer to install illegal versions of cracking of windows instead of the customer to buy the new installation of windows.
    Kind regards
    Lewis

  • Re: Can I repair the operating system without resetting the whole HARD drive?

I have a Toshiba Satellite M50, I ran an antivirus in safe mode scan today and must have accidentally deleted a file system because now I can not connect.
The computer will start but when I try to log in it connect, flash back, my office to the floor once and then connect again.
I can repair the operating system without resetting the entire hard drive and lose all my files?

And if not, is there someway to initiate a prompt BACK because I don't that the file is still in the recycling bin, and I might be able to restore it.

    Hello Bambi

Repair option with the recovery DVD (image recovery) is not available. Using recovery DVDs, you can install OS and have once again the factory settings.
As far as I know at the BACK level, you can start using BACK discus. You can create bootable CDs.

You can start your computer in Mode safe?

    Hello

Looks like a complicated situation. You can now proceed as follows:

    1. ask someone who is an expert, allow him to copy your important files on a DVD or an external hard drive and apply recovery media to reformat and reinstall the operating system. After reinstalling you can put your files and you'll have a system clean and sober.

    2. press F8, and then choose Safe mode. In this safe mode, you should try to back up your data on an external hard drive as USB should work in safe mode.

In both cases, you need to retrieve the machine, so just prepare to backup your data and reinstall the Windows operating system.

How to restore my system when I bought it? No disk when I got it.

I can not open a new document in works 9 says file is missing? System Restore has new date

I want to go further? is there a way? Windows Vista home Premium SP2

    Hello

System Restore puts your computer's settings to a date earlied.

You mean that recovery of the system.

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.
