Now I upgraded to 9 Captivate and the same returns but can not find this fix more. Now, I sound and have not yet added the optional updates from Windows update to the sound card drivers. A few things are of yellow color in the Device Manager but it should for things like quick launch buttons, SD card reader.   I uninstalled NVIDIA drivers very well using Control Panel - program & features. Now, I found scan driver is no longer available. Device Manager indicates that I will use a standard vga adapter.   I wrote a longer version of the recommendation that Frederik Long has given you and then deleted because I'm not sure that I fully understand your situation.

  If you can get into Windows, then follow the advice of Frederik long.

  If you are unable to Windows, what do you see when you start the computer?  In other words, don't you see the Welcome screen with one or more of the icons for user accounts?  If there is only one icon and it's a 'completely different' user name this is the old name you deleted?  If not, what is?

  You have a Windows 7 system repair disc or a Windows 7 installation DVD?
