  • How to: repair corrupt files that were found with SFC

Hello, I am working with a laptop Dell Inspiron 1720.  Operating system is Vista SP2.  Got the black screen of death on the desktop and can not use Windows Explorer or configuration panel.  A ran CHKDSK, which does nothing to solve the problem.  Then ran SFC Scan with command prompt Admin, it stops at 68% indicating that tour corrupted files Windows and cannot fix them.  System Restore has 4 available dates too, but I get an error for all 4 code dates 0x800423F3.  I called Dell, they said that they suspected a virus even if the computer is running Microsoft Security Essentials, updated virus definitions & analysis each week.  I am at one loss for what else to do, Microsoft don't think it's the virus, Dell, and both want to charge their famous contribution.  Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated as a complete reformat is really, really not an option at this time.  Thank you

  • I want to download this file missed: oleaut32.dll

I want to download this file missed: oleaut32.dll

    You see messages like this:

Lsass.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because the OLEAUT32.dll file not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If you click OK, you will see:

Userinit.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because the OLEAUT32.dll file not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If you click OK, you will see:

Explorer.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because the OLEAUT32.dll file not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I put a copy of my file oleaut32.dll XP Pro Service Pack 3 on my Skydrive and you can download it, but it should be already at least another copy on your system so that you shouldn't have to download to solve the above problem.

    Here is the link:

    http://CID-6a7e789cab1d6f39.SkyDrive.live.com/redir.aspx?RESID=6A7E789CAB1D6F39! 191

    Now you can download.

    You run AVG?

Is it just a fantasy of mine that the MS Answers forum will never ask for basic system information when a new question is asked?  I don't even have to fill out a questionnaire when I take my dog to the vet.

  • Director of Windows file missing ad2mcmpgdec.dll

Hello!... I have a lack of file message when I work with Windows Movie Maker... the file is ad2mcmpgdec.dll... How can I fix this?... Thanks in advance!

Movie Maker is not .mov QuickTime-compatible
files... try converting them to the. WMV format before
    import.

There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is an example...:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
    (the 'direct link' is faster)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup260.zip<>
    (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the last screen)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
Drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...

    Hi Bill,

  • How can I reinstall a .dll file missing C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsLive\PhotoGallery\WLXPhotoViewer.dll

When I try to open my photos file I get an error message "Missing.dll C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsLive\PhotoGallery\WLXPhotoViewer.dll" how to recover the file missing from .dii so I can open the photo files in my computer?

    Hi Jamesdonegan,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

To provide the proper resolution, that I would need more information on your side.

Did you the latest changes on the computer before this problem?

    Method 1:
I suggest to rebuild the Windows Photo Gallery and check if it helps.

    a. click Start, select Control Panel , and go to Folder Options.

    b. click the program to Folder Options , and then select the tab display.

    c. in the Advanced settings windowunder hidden files and folders, select view the hidden files and folders.

    d. click on OK.

    e. navigate to the following folder (% of user is the name of the account that has the problem).

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Photo Gallery

    f. copy all the files here somewhere else like a back up and then delete them from the directory of the Windows Photo Gallery.

    g. once the files are deleted, try to start Windows Photo Gallery .

    Method 2:
If the problem is not resolved, you can temporarily disable the antivirus software and firewalls and check if it helps.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this information helps you. If you need additional help or information on Windows, I'll be happy to help you.
