How to search for files containing one or more specific words?

How to find file or files containing one or more words? Alan Cameron

Yes, this solution works!

  1. Click on organize | Folder and search options
  2. 'Search' tab
  3. Always search file names and contents (NB: will be a slower search)

Open a Windows Explorer window

Otherwise, you could add the location to your indexed locations.

  • Windows 7 can search for files containing a specific string that includes punctuation

    I have a documentation for a programming language which is in the form of html on my machine and search for files that contain the string "${1}".

    However if I type that in the search box windows instead seeks any file containing the string '1' in its content or its file name or a folder (which gives me 10240 results!)

  • How to search for work in one particular my external hard drive?

    I'm looking for a specific design on my external hard drive.  How can I do a search on this drive

    OK guess I wasn't too clear.  How to do a search on my external hard drive?  Or any search also.  I went to the lower left of the screen and in the box "search" I typed 'redwork.  I got was a Web site.  So, how I'm looking just my disk hard ex.?  I hope that is more clear.

    Thanks, Fredda

    You can search for files, types of files, folders, programs, text contaiined in the folders or files, but not for designs - there is no way to enter a design search.

    I'm sorry.

    Good luck!

  • How to search for files in a subfolder

    Hello

    I'm trying to get the files of WebCenter Content11.1.1.8 using RIDC (see the code example).

    IdcClientManager Manager = new IdcClientManager();

    IdcClient idcClient = manager.createClient ("idc://localhost:4444"); ")

    UserContext IdcContext = new IdcContext (username, passwoord); fill the binder with the settings

    DataBinder binding = idcClient.createBinder ();

    binder.putLocal ("IdcService", "GET_SEARCH_RESULTS");

    binder.putLocal ("QueryText", "dDocFullText < contains > < qsch >" + "blah" + "< /qsch >");

    binder.putLocal ("SearchEngineName", "oracletextsearch");

    binder.putLocal ("ResultCount", "20");

    ServiceResponse response = idcClient.sendRequest (userContext, binder);

    DataBinder serverBinder = response.getResponseAsBinder ();

    binding = response.getResponseAsBinder ();

    ResultSet DataResultSet = binder.getResultSet ("SearchResults"); loop through the results

    System.out.println ("found documents:" + "\n" + "");

    {for (DataObject dataObject: {resultSet.getRows ())}

    System.out.println ("title:" + dataObject.get ("dDocTitle"))

    + "," + "Is:" "+ dataObject.get ("dDocAuthor").

    + "," + "Extension is: '" + dataObject.get ("venture"));

    System.out.println("");

    }

    Documents found:

    The title is: blah blah, author is: jcooper, Extension is: docx

    The title is: search for text in the document, author is: jcooper, Extension is: txt

    The title is: is a blah document, the author is: jcooper, Extension is: txt

    Now that I get all the files in the WebCenter.  My question is how can I get the files in a subfolder. (by example/folders/my folder/Test1)?

    Do you have any advice?

    Kind regards
    Rigassi

    Hi Rigassi,

    The text of the query should be changed and made like this:

    binder.putLocal ("IdcService", "GET_SEARCH_RESULTS");

    binder.putLocal ("QueryText', '(xParentFolders '074D286A703B4082DCC6CAF4C86D0853' ) (test)');

    binder.putLocal ("SearchEngineName", "oracletextsearch");

    binder.putLocal ("AdvSearch", "True");

    binder.putLocal ("ResultCount", "20");

    Try this, it will list the content items that are present in the parent folder and its subfolders.

    Thank you

  • How to search for files by their content?

    How can I perform a search in windows 7, where he seeks in fact the content of the files?  Let's say I had a text called "mytext.txt" document and in this file was the text 'Hello World '...  How to make windows 7 return "mytext.txt" so if I did a search for the word 'Hello '?

    Hi angry bananas.

    The default function of Windows 7 search is such that it searches the text in the file name and content; in the file properties, such as in tags and. Therefore, in your scenario once you start to type Hello, you should get mytext.txt into the search results.

  • What is a * successful * way to search for files containing a specific word that is not the file name?

    I've seen several threads on forum Windows 7, but no successful response.  I desperately need to find documents that contain a certain word * in * the file is not part of the file name.  It was easy under Windows XP, but it seems that they removed this feature in Windows 7, and it's really causing me problems.

    So let's say the word is 'author '... I need to find all files that contain this word, even if "author" is not in the name of the file.  I've seen different "fixes" posted by MS Tech support, but none of them work.  I tried "contains:", search filters, checking the box "always search file names and content" and nothing works, even if I saved at least a dozen documents that contain that Word.  And no, I'm not he shell.  I checked and I found at least one of them just by hunting around.  I also tried the uppercase and lowercase without result.  I would like to avoid having to download the 3rd party software.

    Please help, there must be a way!

    There is also the alternative prompt BACK, requiring no download:

    Looking for content regardless of the type of file: http://www.computerhope.com/findstr.htm

    If you have never done stuff with a DOS command prompt before, then there is some learning to navigate a file system to see well.

    (Try you the term "content:" and not "contains:" right?)

  • search for file names with tilde character

    trying to locate all the file name containing the tilde (~) character. It is obviously special for the search as a search looking for files with this character corresponds to each file. I can't find the mechanism to quote the tilde so that Windows will search for files containing the tildes in name literally.

    You expect to be easy to find the answer, but then I found others asking the question. I can't find the answer.

  • Please, give me an advise how to search for a number in a file xml (as3.0)

    Hello! Sorry for the troubling.

    Please, give me an advice how to search for a number in a file xml (as3.0)

    Thank you!

    My answer was based on your question to find numbers anywhere in the data to an xml file.  If you know that the data is digital data and the names of the nodes that contains this data, you do not have to check the characters and can only check numerical data using string values...

    function searchXMLFile(Event:MouseEvent):void
    {
    searchDisplay.text = "";
    var pageList:XMLList = xmlFileToSearch.receipt.number;
    searchDisplay.text = "false";

    for (var i: int = 0; i< pagelist.length();="">
    {

    If (pageList [i] == searchInput.text) {}
    searchDisplay.text = "true";
    }

    }
    }

    Even if you are looking for individual digital characters in the previous code that you would have always done by a false exit due having the line 'false' always cancel the real line...

    If (t.toString () .indexOf (m_sSearchTerm)! = - 1).

    {

    searchDisplay.text = "true";

    }

    searchDisplay.text = "false";  This will always overwrite the textfield

  • How to move the FILE from one place to another and keep "Indexing" have to move to the unknown location so you can't discover its full file path? Windows instructions provide information wrong re: how to do this!

    Make a bunch of audio files, placed in a folder on my desktop. Files initially sent to RealPlayer to burn, but when finished burning CD and went to read a CD, folder got seized by Media Player, 'Indexed' and disappeared from the office. I'm a relatively new computer user, and I need to learn more about file paths, how to view the path FULL of a file on my computer and how to type (create) full path when I need to. The "Indexing" feature seems to erase this lesson for me, and after having spent four hours trying to find Vista instructions on "How to move the file from one place to another", I gave up! Windows 'Help and Support' on my computer gives wrong directions. It states that if I right click on a folder > properties, a dialog box opens with a tab by which I can move my account. There is no tab location here. I found locations tab when right click on the "Mobile" folder, but still no option to "move file". No idea what is the folder "Roaming" or why it's on my computer. I want my audio files in the My Music folder, but this place is "access denied." Don't know how to get the audio file it in any case, but if anyone has any advice, I would be very happy! Thank you. PS - I had no problem moving folders in XP. I don't like the idea that a computer is to decide where to put my files. I want to control where I put my files. I don't like the way search works under Vista. I liked the XP search companion better because, for a computer fool like me, it was really easy to organize and find files and folders and had an option specific to find audio and video file TYPES.

    Here is an article on how to move your personal folders in Vista: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/moving-your-personal-data-folders-in-windows-vista-the-easy-way/.  If you're talking about the special folders (such as photos, Documents, office...), then here is an article on how to move: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/95/1/How-to-move-the-special-folders-in-Windows-Vista.html.

    If you have trouble with the search after you move the files, then rebuild the index: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2103/vista_rebuilding_the_search_index/.  Here is an article on how to use Indexing Options in Vista that may be useful for you: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69581-indexing-options.html.

    If the above does not help, your problem seems to relate to the image of the files/folders and their interactions with Media Center (which operate on different other folders).  Please repost your question in images and video Forum at: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistapictures/threads where the people who specialize in issues of the image will be more than happy to help you with your quesitons.
