How to share folders or drives btw host and guest

Hello

This question has probably been asked a million times, but I can't find documentation on this topic. I have WinXP SP3, which is VMserver running on the virtual machine, I use WinXP SP3. My question is how can I create a share or a share in the car so I can transfer documents quickly between the virtual machine and my host OS.

Thank you

Use standard built-in Windows file sharing.

Then you will need to disable "Microsoft File and Printer sharing" or you need to set restrictions with the GPO. As long as the systems have their default values the value of a Microsoft network allows to use actions.

  • Can I use an antivirus on each of my hosts and guests at the same time when running a virtual environment on my PC?

I have Windows 7 running on my main computer at present and that you have a virtual environment installed as an operating system on this computer very.

I would like to know if I am able to run an internet security on my pc (Windows 7) host program and other internet security on my guest in my virtual environment operating system (pc windows 8)... at the same time.

I ask this question because... I installed my OS of windows 8 in a virtual environment running inside my Windows 7 OS in order to familiarize yourself with the features of windows 8 and to test the compliance of windows 8 with various hardware components I use... to satisfy my curiosity before I migrate eventually completely to windows 8.

Part of my tests would involve various software including Internet security applications.

So the question is... I was able to save my virtual environment with an Internet security program, while having an Internet security program running in the host computer?

PS my environments hosts and guests are not put networked with the exception of the common external drives and dvd burners. The plan being that the Internet security on my host computer program will have my analysis excluded virtual environment.

    Yes

The systems are completely separated from each other, will not affect the different AntiVirus on another product.

If you decide to test another Internet security program don't forget to completely remove the old version on the virtual machine

  • Cannot drag-and - drop between host and guest

    12 workstation

    Host = 10 Pro x 64 Windows

    Comments = 10 Pro x 64 Windows

Everything is entirely up to date, etc. on a Z87 PC chipset.

I can copy and paste. I can drag-and - drop comments to the host.

I can't drag-and - drop between host and guest! lol I just get that bar circle icon.

I'm totally stumped! I tried a myriad of common things...uninstalled/reinstalled VMWARE, then Tools, then even tried to create new guests. I do not have eccentric tweaks or customizations. It is a desktop PC that I use for a laboratory test and my business. I have no other problems in addition to this. Yet, on my other system, essentially a nearly identical configuration, I don't have this problem.

    Any suggestions?

    SOLUTION FOUND!

The problem boils down to a matter of RUN AS ADMIN. On the HOST problem, it has been set to RUN as administrator. I've not done this! He has just installed that way automatically. Once I stopped that and it ran normally, all was well again. Read below for more details.

I have two virtual HOST machine configurations almost identical - we'll we'll call HOST 1 and HOST 2. HOST 2 works perfectly without a problem. Drag and drop, to navigate to drives mapped to access NAS stored VMs, etc...

I began to compare what was similar vs. different between the two. On HOST 1 (problem child even as I could slide properly - drop on), I noticed that I could not navigate to my NAS location where some virtual machines are stored. In the left navigation panel, the mapped drives would appear as drive letters with question marks next to them as you can see in the image below.

I deleted the mapped drives then mapped them still fresh, did an other CLEAN uninstall VMWARE WS PRO 12. I combed the registry, records and checked for devices hidden in Device Manager. Clean as a whistle! I reinstalled 12 Workstation and returned the problem! I could yet drag-and - drop properly or navigate to mapped drives. Then I noticed the HOST 2 that he was not being RUN as administrator. Really? So, I removed this parameter and TA DA! Everything started to work properly. I don't know if it's a bug, or knowledge common to others but for me it was new. I don't know why, by default, when installing 1 HOST went down VMWARE to run as administrator, but it was.

Bottom line - do not run VMWARE as an administrator.

  • Host and guest of the machines on different physical networks

Hello everyone.  I would wise advice from the forum, about a particular environment, I am trying to set up.

I have VMware Server 2 installed on my XP laptop, which is connected to a DSL modem via a NIC edge portable said has also a PCMCIA NETWORK card installed in it.

I would like to take a virtual XP workstation and connect to a modem cable via the PCMCIA NIC for test connection hosts and guests safe through the public internet.  For this exercise, I need two machines to be completely separate and therefore have no way to reach or in interaction with each other anyway, except through the extended link.

What follows is a list of what I've done so far.  I would like to know if there is anything I missed.  Perhaps more measures must be taken that I'm not aware of.

Thanks in advance for your collective time.

    (1) disabled all services associated with the PCMCIA NIC on the host computer, including TCP/IP, except the VMware Bridge Protocol.

    2) welded by the mentioned back PCMCIA NIC to VMnet2 via VMware Virtual Network Editor.

    (3) excluded the NETWORK PCMCIA card automatic connection via the virtual network Editor.

    (4) set up the virtual ethernet device of the instance XP comments use the custom VMnet2 network.

    (5) set the property 'NetworkAddress' of the network connection in the case of XP from comments to the MAC address of the PCMCIA NIC by step seven of the next mission - http://communities.vmware.com/message/378576;jsessionid=034FC6E865C0DB28AD269D7445F2AD0D

PS - How could these measures differ for a guest computer to Linux (openSUSE 11), especially step 5 in my list above?

    Welcome to the forums!

IMHO, I think you have done all that was required. I don't know why your step 5 is necessary or if it will be same cause problem. "Bridged" means that the customer acts as its own instance on the network, which includes a discreet addresses MAC and IP, from my point of view. Affecting the MAC guest host MAC is not necessary for the connection of standard bridge, so why if it is necessary here? In addition, you can set any MAC address that you like for a VMware guest. There are restrictions, once again setting the host MAC address in the guest can cause problems.

You can find the VMware documentation on how to do it here: Page 240, http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmserver2.pdf

There is also something on definition of MAC addresses: Page 234

  • Difficulty ping between the hosts and guests

    Hello

I want to establish network connectivity between my host OS (XPsp3) and my guests (CentOS5.5 and Windows 7).

So far, I can ping between guests, but not between host and guest, or comments to the host.  When I try, I get a message "destination host unreachable".

When I configured my virtual machines in a first time, I put them to 'Host-Only' and I need to keep it like that for the purpose of what I do with them - which is the problem?

  • unique IP address does not work properly. with win7 host and guest.

    Hello

I can use internet equally as good on my host and guest WIN7 using a bridge connection.

    I use a bridge connection.

My main goal with win7 as a virtual machine is to use the same application online with a different IP address... This is where it falls apart. When I do 'whatsmyip"on the virtual machine and the host. It appears to be the same.

ipconfig in CMD shows 192.168.1.x1 on the host and 192.168.1.x2 on the comments. but make an ip check online shows that

    96.365.1xx.x on two of them.

I only got an E-card... but maybe there's a way to fool the router by giving me two single dynamic IP address...

    Thank you for your time!

Attached is a mental map of the way I'd like it works. (The two runnig Windows 7)

On the IP addresses should not be the same as those listed below

    layout.png

The problem here is not in VMware Workstation or your host, its your NAT:ed internet connection.

Your internet provider very probably only you give an IP to get out, if you want more you have to communicate with them.

  • How to share folders in icloud drive like dropbox?

Hi, I wanted to share a folder with other people with Apple ID. However, I have not found any option in icloud drive. Is it possible to use icloud drive like dropbox and share folders with others?

  • How to backup 4 ESXi host and guests?

Instead of running 2 or 3 physical servers, I create 2 or 3 virtual servers on one physical host and save money, the trees, the planet and so on.

    Go green, as they say.

But how do I save it?

My first experiences with VMWare workstation (excellent product BTW), I thought that I could connect an external hard drive on the physical server via USB and back up virtual machines from time to time. Just as I could with VMWare workstation (not to mention the snapshot option...).

    Right...

Indeed, virtual machines in case more than one front-end role rather than the portfolio databases that change on an hourly basis, an image on an external hard drive backup were possible.

But it doesn't look like it works that way with ESXi.

OK, the snapshot option is still there, so that offers backup features (update mess up system, go back to the last good snapshot).

But when I connect the external hard drive, it is not recognized. Sounds fair?

I heard that you could back up via iSCSI. Possibly using the software to create an iSCSI target on another server instead of investing in a unit of SAN.

Despite this, where you re all or part of this?

I don't see no backup option in the interface of vSphere 4.

    THS, that's what I have:

X3350x IBM server | ESXi 4 | 1 guest running Windows 2003 server and the other running 2008 Server.

That's all. No VCenter, no vMotion, no second failover server.

    Could someone clarify my options?

    Hi Sophiec,

In fact, shared Variables are a good way to share data between a host and a target. However, this is not the only way for data sharing.

On the follow-up document, you will find different ways to do it: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/48D244EC86971D3986256BD4005CCC28 as:

I notice that I can go to the view of the group, create a group and associate a strategy with the group.

  • Windows sharing does not host and guests, but between physical and host computers and the guests.

    Hi, I have a bit of a

a bizarre with windows shared folders network, I am about to format and rebuild the host, but I figure why not ask you chaps, cos I would lov to see why it does not work.

So I have a 64-bit Windows XP workstation host 7 but I also uninstalled and tried vm player 3.

My many comments from winxp ops, vista32 and even a win7 can do all of the windows network shares but cannot share with the host country, they see the host in the "mshome" workgroup and can even ping, but when I try to connect to share on the host I get "host is not reachable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions.  The specified network name is no longer available. »

My laptop (win7) and two other physical computers desktop (Windows XP & vista home) can see the host and can use the shared windows resources.

The host can see the guest in the working group operating systems and I can ping, but once again impossible to use actions.

I connect to the host, all comments and physical workstations with the same user name and password

All guests are running in bridge. All firewalls and virus progs are disabled.

    If quick recap

    • You can take and provide each other actions and physical work stations, but not the host

    • The host can take and give shares with physical computers, but not guests

    • Physical computers can give and take action with guests and the host.

If anyone has an idea about it, I would lov to hear it.

    See you soon

This sounds like a manifestation of this problem of networking:
