How to validate a call that I received from someone claiming to be Microsoft?
Original title: calls from Windows
I just got a strange phone call from 'Jack' of my 'windows provider' telling me that my computer was sending strange messages for windows. And then he asked me if my computer was on and could I go to it. I could barely understand him and I ran a security check on my computer and it showed that it is safe. Is - this phone call sounds like it's legitimate? It sounded as if it was from a call center (lots of voices in the background).
Fake phone calls to technical support
Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.
Please see:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx
Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.
These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.

Received a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft Support
Like many others, I received a call from a man who claims he was Microsoft, telling me that my computer was being hacked. I started to see through his bull quickly while I was talking to him, and after research I found confirmation that he indeed was a scam. However after reading the responses I am worrying whether or not I gave him access to my computer. As I was talking to him, I had on my computer, not to do what he told me or visit the page he was trying to direct me, but looking at the probability of this being a scam. My question is to get online while we were connected to the phone I made my system vulnerable? We have DSL and I was wondering if they already have my phone number could they hack into my computer or follow my ISP just connected. I think I'm fine, but now I'm getting paranoid who were able to carve in. It may just be a case of hypochondria computer. Any idea is appreciated. Thank you!
-Frank
You should be fine if you did not allow the con artist access to your computer.

How to open a link that was received in an e-mail usung microsoft live mail
I received a number of emails with a link to something else. When I click on that link a box pops up saying "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, or if it is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel. "I n 't know how to proceed. I use Windows 7. Help, please.
Thank you
Lanny Fraizer
If the links do not open a browser window to the referenced page, then this is the browser's file/protocol associations that are confused. I suggest that you (re-) represent Internet Explorer as default browser:- The default type in the start search box, and select default programs results.
- Select set your default programs.
- In the left pane, select Internet Explorer.
- At the foot of the page, click set this program as default.
- Click OK.
- Select to set the default settings for the access and the computer program.
- Select custom , and then click the chevrons pointing to extend the selection.
- Under choose a default browser, select Internet Explorer.
- For other browsers you use, select enable access to this program .
- Click OK, and then restart the computer.
Now try to click a link in an e-mail. If it still does not work, please describe in detail what is happening, including the full text of the error message. -

Fake call? I received a call today from someone claiming to be Windows Support
original title: fake call?
Today, I got a call from someone claiming to be Windows Support, saying he was getting my computer error messages. I (stupidly) allowed remote access to my computer and I was told that there were a great many virus that needed to be removed or it would break. While he was trying to sell my software I bcan suspect and ended the call. Now, I am very worried that if it was a fake call, could he have installed something on my computer, or access personal information, and how do I know?
Please read the responses from the link at the end.
Pay attention to what Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP.
Already, you let the sammer with access remotely. Nothing else short of reinstalling Vista and change your account and the password will save your computer.
Do it NOW.http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistasecurity/thread/4489f388-d6de-416d-9158-0079764bb001 For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to be windows and I have stupisly access to my computer, but does not give them the credit card details. This could be a problem
Hello Ann,.
If you allowed them access to your PC, then it is a problem. I considered reinstalling my OS and change all my passwords. It would also make sense, if you use the online banking etc., to inform your bank that you have a security hole on your PC. This will alert them to anyone using your current password to the Bank etc.

I just got a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. He directed me to go to MS Windows event viewer and County errors and warnings in the Applications and the system section. Then he asked me to let them access my computer and fix any problems that would be 'crash' of my computer. When I refused him access said he couldn't help me and hung up. I do not think that it was Microsoft but are ratings warning and error a problem? I use Windows XP.
Kudos to you 1Grizzly, you have made the right choice. Microsoft does not make unsolicited support calls or send emails to customers, offering support.

I received a call from someone claiming to be a representative of Microsoft
I just got a call from someone claiming to be a representative of Microsoft to report that my network downloads could be accompanied by unwanted files without my knowledge. I know it's a scam, but I played along anyway. The representative asked me to press the keys Ctrl + key Microsoft Logo at the same time. Of course I hung up immediately, but I can't find in any of my research, what will make this combination of keys. Can anyone advise, please. Thank you.
Original title: what is CTRL + touch Logo Microsoft do?
It is a scam. This combination of keys does nothing. Then, my guess is that they will tell you that he was supposed to do something and work on you from here to get info on your machine. Microsoft never does unsolicited phone calls. Is calling, Microsoft, a scam?

I received a phone call from someone claiming that I had a virus
I received a phone call from the India, claiming I had a virus, and it seems that I do... I followed the steps, they gave me, but I was unable to give them remote access to my computer (IE; take control). I found out because it is a scam.
As they were unable to access remotely are they still able to access my personal information?
And will install an antivirus on my computer to get rid of the virus known as I have now?
Thank you.
Hello
Looks like a scam. Please do not hear these calls. If they failed to take control of your computer, then there is no need to worry.
I suggest that you download, install and run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if it helps to flush out the virus.
I would also say that you used your main security software of Microsoft Security Essentials .
