How well El Capitan is running on MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)

One of my Macs is an old 15 "model of MacBook Pro"late 2008 ". I know that it supports El Capitan, but what I wonder is really run him El Capitan? What interests me is the user experience of real life?

My specs are:

Model name: MacBook Pro

Model ID: MacBookPro5, 1

Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor speed: 2.53 GHz

Number of processors: 1

Total number of cores: 2

L2 Cache: 6 MB

Memory: 8 GB

Bus speed: 1.07 GHz

Boot ROM version: MBP51.007E.B06

Version of the SCM (System): 1.33f8

I thought maybe I could take an approach gently gently and install El Capitan on a different hard disk, or maybe partition the internal hard drive and install it on one of the partitions? Any thoughts on this approach?

My internal hard drive is a model 1 TB of Seagate hybrid.

Thank you!

WHU not you install El Capitan on a current your SSHD partition or separate HARD disk and experience it yourself.  Much, much better than the experience of others.

Ciao.

The only problem is that some applications require the upgrade and some devices that connect to the computer require updated drivers up-to-date. The problem is that for some devices and applications updates are not available and so they do not work with El Capitan.

    Thank you!

With 8 GB of ram, it will work fine. Install on an external drive or an internal partition is a wise option that you can get rid of it if it does not meet expectations. Be aware that some of your applications can work more like exceeding 10.6.8 Rosetta support has been dropped.

  • MacBook Pro (13-INCH, late 2011) constantly gel

My Macbook Pro, (2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 with 4 GB 1333 MHZ DDR3) recently started to freeze with a command or a simple task that I try to do. I've updated to the latest version of OS X El 10.11.5 captain who was available for me in the last week or so, but the problem started before that would go far so I thought that maybe if I've updated what the problem was. There is, of course, no. I tried to clean my computer for more disk space (I currently have 50 GB) but it's really frustrating when it freezes every second I'm removing something or download something.

At startup, it takes time for it usually loads. I'll connect and 3 out of 4 times, it freezes when I type my password then unfreezes when it connects. It takes forever to load. I already checked the system preferences for startup and connection applications. There are not.

I open safari (or any other application) and it will take awhile, freeze, show me the beachball cursor and then open minutes later. I go and type on safari, it freezes again. I can't do it through any simple task without it freezing constantly. I DO NOT download anything off the internet, nor do I even all bookmarks or whatever it be backed up on Safari. I even tried to reset those already with a recommendation of a Web site. Safari is not the only application that freezes like this or the other. My Photos App will similarly, freezes my finder and it will take 10-15 minutes to open a folder with a single point inside. Each. Unique. Request.

Also, I got a notification saying "adobe script can not finish running and can slow down your computer" or something similar to this, you still want to run or quit smoking. I have leave of course and then check to see that the adobe script was running. He was not one, or anywhere to even stop it.

I don't know if my battery has nothing to do with it either. My Macbook currently drains the battery in less than an hour if is not plugged.

I looked to the top of the console with a recommendation out of a Web site, for example, I don't know what I'm looking for, either. I try to scroll (even if it freezes when I do) to see if there are errors, I know the hand but honestly, I don't know. I also tried the repair utility disk, however, who failed because whenever I try to do so that it freezes and is in fact frozen where it not same process and try to break free.

I looked at the RAM, but also don't know what I'm looking for here either.

OH, finally I tried running Safe Boot, but it's just too slow.

Unfortunately I can't take it into an apple store since I live about 8 hours away we and hoped someone could help me to solve the problems. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am available for questions as well.

Download and run EtreCheck, created by one of his own assistants here in CSA. It is a diagnostic tool that is very useful for us to find problems. It will also give us additional specifications on your Mac. After his execution after the logfile here. It will never contain any personal information.

  • Charger for MacBook Pro 13 inch, late 2011

What charger for MacBook Pro (13 '' end 2011) since the megasafe 60w charger is no longer available?

Thank you very much for the help.

According to find the right power adapter and cable for your laptop Mac - Apple Support end 2011 MacBook Pro 13 "uses the following http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC461LL/A/apple-60w-magsafe-power-adapter-for-macbook-and-13-inch-macbook-pro?fnode=8b which shows it as being available (at least in the United States).

If this is not available, note that you can use an adapter of higher power such as mentioned in the following extract from the first link above:

Adaptors for Apple laptops are available in 29W, 45W, 60W and 85W varieties. You must use the adapter appropriate for your Apple laptop power supply. You can use a power adapter higher compatible without problem, but it will not collect your computer faster or work differently. Lower power adapters do not provide enough power.

  • cannot select the disk to install the update of the Sierra (Macbook Pro 13 inch, late 2011)

I downloaded the update of the Sierra and proceeded with the installation. However, I noticed that even if I could move the pointer autour, I couldn't make selections on tapping the trackpad. I managed to get past the first steps by using the 'tab' key (keyboard) to make selections and 'space' to make the confirmations. However, arriving at step 'select the disk where you want to install Mac OS', the 'Tab' and 'Space' technical has stopped working. Now I'm stuck here. Can someone tell me please how to go beyond this?

Looks like it's a problem of trackpad? Or in any case a trackpad issue connected with installation of Sierra? I would take the MBP for a Genius Bar...

There are several things to consider:

It is a five year old computer, problems are bound to happen sooner or later, so get ready to tha.

First of all, you need to maybe bad RAM. Agents of the launch system, System launch Daemon and your virtual memory information imply that something is eating all of your ram. 4 GB is not much, but it should be more than enough unless it no longer works properly.

My second comment would be the hard drive. Generally, a rotating disc is not a long life in a laptop, being pushed around when the laptop is turned on and was moving. It is possible that you have bad blocks.

Thirdly, it could be your battery. Plain and simple, a dying battery.

The best option at this point would be to make an appointment at the Apple Store and run an MRI (Mac resource Inspection) to detect what can go wrong.

  • How to replace the hard drive with an SSD on a model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286

    Hello

I would like to replace the hard drive on my model of end 2011 MacBook Pro 15 inch, A1286 with a disk solid state drive (SSD). First of all, I would like to know if this is possible. Second, what is the best way to do it? I'm under the Yosemite OS if that makes a difference.

Here are some technical details of my current system:

-MacBook Pro 15 inch, late 2011 model A1286

    -OS yosemite

    -16 GB of memory/RAM

    -Currently using stock HD

All instructions step by step would be helpful with what software should I use to make backups of my current operating system (e.g., SuperDuper). I would also like to know what tools or material I need like type of screwdriver, cables to transfer data to the SSD, etc.. My goal is to not have to reinstall each app one by one on the SSD, but if that's the only way to do it then it's okay.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can see instructions OWC here. Tools are mentioned in the discussion (I used a plastic knife picnic with the stronger edge somewhat blunt for nylon pry tool). I suggest you invest in one of these external fences. Install the SSD in who and clone internally externally with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. Then move the external drive of the internal drive after the start of the SSD in the external to confirm the operation.

  • MacBook Pro 15 inch Mid 2009 running slow

My MacBookPro began to run more slowly. It was a bit lazy before I upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.14), but it seems that it becomes gradually slower.

The most affected elements: start-up, open programs and work on the Internet. (In regards to the Internet, I have restarted my modem, checked my speed of suppliers, cleared my cache, etc. I'm waiting for my provider to help me know if there are problems with my service, but it seems that my Internet is being heard more slow as well. I work from home on a website online. Internet delays are causing me considerable problems with my work!)

By different channels support Apple, I ran EtreCheck and provided the report below. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Confusing one, it says that my 8 GB of RAM is expandable. But I don't know why. I have 8 GB of RAM upgraded last year.

Thank you in advanced for your entry.

I see no problem at all in your report to EtreCheck. The 'extensible' indicator simply means that your machine can be extensible. Most recent Macs have no more extensible RAM. These types of downturns are a common complaint. You have an older machine, and they do not work El Capitan, but also a new machine. You can replace your hard drive with an SSD. But other than that machine seems to be running like he's going to run.

  • How to set up the iMac and macbook pro for sharing

I have an iMac desktop running a MacBook Pro runningMavericks and El Capitan. I would be grateful someone guide me through the process step by step to be able to share between these two platforms.

I know that I should probably update the laptop to El Capitan, but don't have the time to do it now.

I thank everyone for their tips and advice in advance.
