HP 15-d005TU Notebook PC: upgrade HARD drive internal for laptop

The internal HHD is short on free space and I need to replace it with a larger one. The existing one is 500 GB, SATA and 5400 RPM.

What should I look for when you buy a new?

Any internal HARD disk will be suitable and compatible or am I looking for something specific?

Any internal hard drive 2 TB will be suitable and compatible?

Since the existing one is using a 5400 RPM, one, can I use one with 7200 RPM? There will be compatibility and or overheating problems?

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think not laptop 2 TB drives are made with the rotation speed of 7200 RPM. They are all 5400. 7200 TPM is larger than 1 TB. But, to answer your question directly, you can use any 2.5 inch wide and 7mm or 9.5 mm thick hard drive SATA or SSD on the market. The physical dimensions of each of them are the same, that is the industry standard interchangeable. No compatibility or heating problems.

The access door on the bottom does not contain hard drive. Access to the hard drive takes a broad dismantling so be careful. It will jeopardise any warranty you have left.

  • How to use the 2nd hard drive internal for storage?

Hi, I am a newbie in all of this. I would use the 2nd internal hard drive of our mac mini server (end 2012) for storage (in fact, I'll things rsync from a remote server to here. but this is not the point here.). The thing is, I don't know how to access the 2nd internal hard drive and where to start. I did all of the following commands in the Terminal, but I don't really know what they mean, and what can I do with this information. I've been Googling but most are guides on how to install a 2nd hard drive etc. I hope that the information below is enough for someone to give me advice please?

  • 2nd HARD drive internal for e9180f

Hi, I want to add a second internal hdd to my e9180f for the purpose of a backup drive. In my view, there is a spare Bay and a connection SATA spare available in the wardrobe, however there is no power cord. I notice that the power for the primary drive crosses a short red cable attached to the motherboard, and I also notice that there is an identical form on the right side of the motherboard which is used to power the main drive.

I am wondering therefore if Ineed to do, is to get another identical to the one that powers the main hard drive cable and connect it to the above mentioned plug?

    Thank you!

Hello Eaglezeye, there is a space in the hard drive next to the HDD cage existing.

The Red wire plugged into the existing hard drive is the data cable. There is also a longer power cable connected to the drive.

You can order a retail hard drive that should come with a red data cable. This cable would connect to the sata port existing next to the one you already have.

It takes a power connector in the wiring harness available for the new hard drive, probably just above the hard drive cage.

The new hard drive must be partitioned and formatted before that you can use.

The commercial version usually has a CD in the box that you can insert into the optical drive and restart the system. It will open the configuration screen and provide instructions on how to partition and format the new drive.

When it ends, just remove the CD and restart the system. When the screen appears, you will see a message that new hardware be found and drivers required for this drive will be installed very quickly.

The new hard drive will be recognized by the operating system and be ready to use.

    I hope this helps.

  • Firebird 802 - upgrade hard drives - Solid State / hybrid anyone?

I'm upgrading hard drives on my Firebird 802 (the part the WEAKEST of my Firebird and the SMALLEST score on Windows Index). I replaced the drive secondary with a Seagate 500 GB SATA drive at 7200 RPM (ST950042 4AS) and REALLY improved performance (I have my file on the secondary drive).

It's now time to upgrade the MAIN disk. I'm looking at a "Hybrid" car A Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500 GB Solid State Hybrid Drive - 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA 3 Gb/s.

Has anyone tried upgrading the main drive of a hybrid? For a solid Sate drive?

    Thank you

    Enzo

Well WELL, @ 10:39 PM PST after FOUR and a HALF and TWO attempts of the hybrid drive WORKS as my main drive on my Firebird 802!

Using the data transfer software CMS Bounceback ($14.99 per download) the program was missing several files that were essential for the computer to boot. Once I checked the transfer journal and moved the files myself IT BOOTS!

THUS, in a few weeks, I'll post the kind of increases in speed that I experience. First comment, my drives are running @ 98 degrees F. It's HOT, so I'll have to come back a fan for the hard disk enclosure, in fact, you can put at the front of the box and jump through this background grid. Going to put in place tomorrow. Now I'm BEAT!

Thus, it CAN BE DONE on your Firebird! Solution, HERE!

    Thank you!

  • Upgrade hard drive for computer laptop dv6626us

I searched for the hard drive on my laptop dv6626us upgrades. When I read the comments they seem to all be positive with regard to the replacement of my current (factory loaded hard drive). One of the concerns is that the computer has been delivered to the factory with Windows XP loaded. I don't see the comments of those who have Windows 8.

Upgrading the hard drive for the dv6626us with windows xp installed at the factory would be compatible with the hard disk depending on whether I have found as being compatible for windows 8.

    Hello mikee1960,

HP does not have hardware support for Windows 8 on any system purchased before October 1, 2011.  Most of the Windows 7 drivers work in Windows 8.

Check out this page to see if your computer has been tested by HP with Windows 8.

You can run the Upgrade Wizard, which will scan your PC and report on what is currently installed on your PC is compatible with Windows 8.  This guide was updated for Windows 8 provides lots of information which is needed for all those planning the upgrade.

  • 6400 upgrade Hard Drive just SHRUNK... Once again!!!

First of all let me state that I am ready to throw my computer and TWO 2, TWO Yes upgrade hard drives out of my 2nd floor window!

OK, my wind is done, for now.

I have an Inspiron 6400 with HDD 80 GB of origin (73.1 GB space.)  I wanted to go to a Western Digital 250 GB hard drive.  I bought the drive and cloned it.  My first attempt was a purchase Norton Ghost program (after the $150 for the reader, that's another $50 for the program) I cloned it from the laptop via a USB - SATA connection.  Everything seemed fine, until I swapped hard drives.  He got through the BIOS, no problem, then started to windows.  Immediately, it projected blue and that was that.  Swap return original hard drive, everything OK.  Put old drive in the spare computer/SATA slot and realized that the reader shrunk to 73.1 GB. . the SAME SIZE as the original drive.

After days/weeks and literally probably 5 to 6 hours of troubleshooting, downloading about 4-5 programs, utilities, etc, and have EVERY single utility, test and program otherwise tell me the car was very good (less the fact that he was now 170 GB smaller) I thought that drive was simply bad then returned.  (After fighting with Tiger Direct, I had to return it directly to WD, but they at least sent me a replacement unit before that I had to return the first...  (where my 'two' drives))

So I have the new, 2nd hard drive in hand and I say to myself that I would be the clone differently, from my desktop (Dell 690) who had a few ports SATA spare on it.  I cloned it with a different program and once again, everything seems to be okay.  It showed in my office.  This time, I've set manually the new disk partitions to what I end up with.)

So I put the new, larger, cloned drive in the computer, booted and BAAM!  Exactly the same thing.  Blue screen stop...  And guess what... The drive is now 73.1 GB. . and once more, there is nothing I can do to bring back to 250 GB... any computer, software, utility, etc. I throw at it or throw it out in...

Back to Western Digital... but this time, I don't know yet what to say or how to proceed.

    My questions are:

    1. What is happening and why I can't get a 250 GB drive in the machine.  (I can't find ANYWHERE a maximum limit of hard drive)

    2. any thoughts on how to get my drive to the correct size of declaration?

I'm really steam it... I have never spent so much time on what should be a simple question in my 15 years and more and about 20 + systems of computers through my hands...

    Thanks in advance

    Blake

  • Satellite 3000-100: upgrade hard drive

I would like to replace the original HDD 20 GB of my Satellite 3000-100 by a larger, preferably 80 GB.
I can replace it with any hard drive 2.5 "EIDE or are there restrictions (BIOS?) on the brand, size etc. ?
Is the replacement easy to conduct, or the risk of damaging the laptop?
There will be problems with the Windows ME product recovery CD or install it on a larger hard drive?

Thank you very much in advance

    FG

    Hello

Well, this unit is a little older. As far as I know, the HARD drive is under the keyboard.
In this case, you will have to remove all covers. Unfortunately, I n t find any detailed documents related to this procedure.

But I know that at the bottom of the device, you can find the modular Bay. This allows you to add an additional hard drive. I found some information that you can use a 30.0 GB HDD modular Bay.
In this case, you can use two hard drives of your laptop.

    Good bye
