HP 15 f272wm: cost of replacement of a failed hard drive

I recently dropped my laptop and now I get dst short error. I said that the only solution is to replace my hard drive, I want to know how much a replacement will be for my hard drive. Thanks in advance.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

Page 40-46 shows the process.

You have a drive of 500 GB 5400 RPM hard and this is a replacement of a similar nature.

https://www.Amazon.com/Seagate-Momentus-5400rpm-internal-ST9500325AS-bare/DP/B001R4BBL0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8 & qid = 1469545768 & SR = 8-2 & Keywords = 500 + Gig + 5400 + rpm + 2.5

$43.75.

This is not your exact model, but essentially the same operation:

If your budget can handle I could recommend an SSD. Your laptop has a low processor range and would win a little to a faster disk drive. After the back if you want to explore the possibilities. Had already upgraded to Windows 10? If so reinstalling software is pretty easy.

I have a DV6408nr (windows vista Home premium) I had to replace the motherboard and hard drive. When installing the new motherboard (same part No.: 443775-001) and insert the recovery (bought from HP) discs that I have, I received an error message stating that the PC could not be recovered using my disks. The serial numbers on the label service and in my bios do not match. When I entered the serial number of my bios in HPpartsurfer, he said that the system is a DV6449us. I already checked my RAM and HARD drive is brand new/not formatted. I used these recovery discs (manufacturer: 483905-003/483906-003) successfully before on other flags of DV series. Is there a reason why these discs should not work on two motherboards in the same system with these similar specs? What should I do to get my system recovered?

The number of the motherboard and other show information in the bios of the new Commission?

The numbers do not match the recovery disks or information is missing in the bios.

If it's really a mismatch, then you will need to find the good recovery disks or use a Dell installation disk operating system and use the product key from the sticker on the laptop to get activated, and then manually install the drivers.

If the bios tattoo is damaged or missing information only a used HP Center can then fix the tattoo.

    Hi all

my laptop is 1 month out of warranty and keep Windows telling me my HARD drive is about to fail and I'm not sure on what disk HARD I need to buy to replace, I'm not in the best financial situation at the moment and I'm looking for the most cost-effective way of backing up my computer and install a new HARD drive.

I looked into buying a drive enclosure HARD 2.5 "and that he was going to create a clone of the original HARD disk, but if anyone who knows better if they could let me know. I have a 2 to external HARD disk, I was able to use to backup everything, but I don't know how to do and the cloning machine just seams easier as after his clone new HARD drive I just replace it in the laptop, I found a cloning case that comes with the son and the software for about $50 and a 1 TB drive HARD Hitachi for $80 , but I do not know which fits into HARD drive my laptop.

Any help is much appreciated as I am a little upset my laptop $1400 a too serious a problem 1 month out of warranty, cheers Jon.

    > I looked into buying a disk enclosure 2.5 "HARD and he's going to create a clone of the original HARD disk, but if anyone who knows better if they could let me know

It was sounds good to me.
In the past, I went from the HARD drive to SSD drive and I also clone HARD drive partitions and moved to SSD drive.
After that, you'll need mark the system partition active (on the external HARD disk)

Regarding the 1 TB HARD drive:
I think the HARD drive needs to be supported, because the controller SATA isn't limited to one size specific. This is why it is not a big problem to make it work.

Hi, my HP Elite 371f desktop computer needs a new internal hard drive. He l just replace one that is in it, or do you recommend a better? I listen to a lot of TV and my nephew likes to play video games on it. THX

    Hello.

According to the specifications of your motherboard, you have 2 ports SATA - 1xSATA I and II 1xSATA, so if you choose, you can add another hard drive and have two separate storage locations. However, remember that I have the speed SATA port will be limited to 1.5 Gb/s, which is the maximum speed available SATA I can reach.

Regarding a specific hard drive that I can recommend, because you want to run applications from the secondary storage unit, you can check WD Black, which is a performance oriented HARD drive with limited 5-year warranty and has good features like a built-in dual-core CPU that makes the ideal player for multitasking , or WD Blue, which is intended for the calculation of daily and he is quite able to run most of the games as well as many programs for editing or programming. Here are some links if you want to take a look:

  • NB550D - replace the RAM or HARD drive without voiding warranty?

    Hello!

I noticed, that generally, Toshiba users replace their HARD drives and RAM memory without voiding the warranty.

But I'd be happy to get official confirmation if NB550D netbook.
Can I pass without problem, my material in this model?
If it is relevant, I'm of the Poland.

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi dude

Since it is only a user to user forum you will get no official confirmation here
But you're right. The RAM and HDD Upgrade or replacement will not void the warranty.
These pieces are extensible, and as much as I know that is mentioned in the user manual.

  • PC HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT: Replacement of the SSD HARD drive and Recovery Options

I have a PC HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT I went recently to drive HARD original for one SSD of 850 Evo from Samsung using Samsungs cloning/copying software. Everything went well and the PC is in use today. I do not see the partition D: Recovery on this machine more well, so I think this has not copied or was lost. I still have the disk that was replaced.

I was wondering if there is a way to replace HARD drive like this with an SSD and everything by keeping the system recovery feature that was on the HARD disk, and if a set of system recovery disks of before installing SSD would continue to operate, or if I need to create new ones, and if I CAN create new ones.

    rgoodrich

I did what you want to do (for example, to replace a disk with a DDI) and was able to retain the function of HP recovery - but it's because of two important facts.

First of all, I used a DDI with the same capacity as the original HARD disk.  This is important because if you use a smaller SDS, the HP recovery feature will no more work as a reset begins with reformatting the drive and recreate the original scores - which will fail if the disc is too small.

Second, I use Macrium Reflect product to 'clone' the HDD to the DDI, which means, he made an exact copy of the partitions on disk on the SDS.  So, when I swapped drives, the PC restarted without any problem.

People have posted here on the use of the software from Samsung, and they seem to have problems restarting after use and (apparently) with successful copy from disk HARD original in the new SDS.

    Hello

I recently buyed a Hp Pavilion-e070sl delivered pre-installed with W 8 64 and I need to know how the name of God how can I reinstall the operating system, since there was no installation dvd disc in the box? Or better (if we exclude the recovery manager and windows recovery disk), if somehow the hard drive does not work and I can't revive the laptop only by replacing one damaged by a new, how do I re - install the OS? And no, I want to order and pay twice.

    Any idea will be useful.

    Thanks in advance.

    You are the very welcome.

Try to do the recovery with your old hard drive first media and see if it would work.

If this isn't the case, then I guess you have nothing to lose to see if the English version of the W8 will be install and activate it, but I don't know if you can change the language.

    If you can, great.

  • Failed hard drive on HP laptop. After replacement, can I put OS and memory?

I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment Notebook PC, model dv9617nr (HP pn GS730UA).  An error message at startup says "Operating system not found" so my Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit (updated two years ago) does not load. I guess that means that my hard drive has failed. How can I test this hypothesis? Yet once, guess I am not mistaken, and I ordered the recommended replacement (pn 590736-001 HP) of spare parts warehouse ($142.50 plus port charges). Are there instructions on internet to make this replacement? After I do this replacement, I thought I could install Windows 7 I have and upgrade to 4 GB SODIMM the 1 GB SODIMM memory that originally served as. What problems I have with hardware compatibility with Windows 7? If the memory module that I use has the same features as the HP recommended replacement (pn 598861-001 HP), i.e. 800 MHz, 200 pins, PC2-6400, SDRAM, but greater capacity memory of 4 GB, I have compatibility problems to use it? Please advise me on these issues. Thanks, Jeff

    Hi, Jeff:

    Let me knock your question...

First, to confirm that your HARD drive is dead, go into your BIOS menu. There should be a diagnostic utility hard disk and memory.  Run the HARD drive Diagnostics utility and see what it reports. More that likely that the disk HARD fell down, and is more usable.

You can order a replacement disk or you can get just about any hard drive SATA II - 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM.

You could go to 250 to 500 GB, if you choose. Unfortunately at the present time, HARD drive prices are unreasonably high due to the flooding in Thailand, where many HARD drive manufacturing plants. Some have been damaged heavily, causing HARD drive prices triple almost from one day to the next.

This is a disc, you can get that I think is better than what you have now: this one is 7 200 RPM. Faster but uses more energy.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822136279

You can get the version of 5400 RPM... too similar. Not as good as the caviar black. It's more along the line of what you would get at HP.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822136387

Read the comments at the same time, or you are free to get HP.

There are instructions for installing the hard drive and memory on your laptop support and driver page. Click on the manuals on the right side of the page.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01278446

So, you want to watch the maintenance and care guide.

You can upgrade the memory to a maximum of 4 GB by using 2 x 2 GB memory PC2-6400. You can get it at HP, or you can get it on the link below. It is the memory that I use. In fact I just ordered this same memory to install my sister-in-law in dv6700.

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820148159

Now you can install W7 very well. I installed W7 Home Premium 64 bit on my dv6810us which has pretty much the same material as your and 4 GB of memory (the same that I posted above).

However, here's the catch. It depends on what version of W7 you have. If you have a W7 upgrade version, you must install a qualifying operating system on the hard disk before you can improve.

If you have a full version of Windows 7, then you can install it on a blank hard drive.

If you have the version upgrade, contact the HP support and ordering a set of recovery disks Vista. Install Vista, then uprade to W7 if you have the updated release of W7.

You can use the vista drivers support page of your laptop for all the drivers you need that W7 has no power.

One thing... NOT (updated flash) BIOS while running Windows 7. You can Flash only using windows vista.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let us know.

  • Replace the failed HARD drive in Inspiron 1545 without recovery media

My COMPUTER illiterate brother gave me his Dell Inspiron 1545 [Amin Note: Service Tag published by policy TOU] set after he dropped it on the floor.  I used a cart of Sata USB drive to copy successfully most of his records off the coast to another PC (some were corrupt), but I do not know how to go on installing the OS, etc. on the new HARD drive, I bought (a 120 GB Samsung SSD Series 840).

Dell Diagnostics (F12 at startup) gives me several errors of HARD drive for the Western Digital HDD (WD-WX70A8983788) 320, for example:

Error code 2000-0146 test short DST. The reader also failed to conduct confidence test correctly eg 0F00:1348 error Code. When you try to boot normally, Windows Vista complains that there are mistakes, tries to correct them and sometimes I can get it to boot on Windows Home screen how it freezes.

When I have already fixed a laptop, I had access to a recovery media / DVD and a key product of Windows OS, but this Dell does seem to be none of that - just a recovery partition on a hard drive now doubtful.

What are my options to install the new HARD drive and hand over its files on since I have no recovery media or a product key Windows OS?

    I must:

    (a) reduce the size of the partition on the dodgy HARD drive less than 120 GB and then clone the dodgy HDD on the new SSD, so try and difficulty of installing Windows using the Dell recovery tools? (He had used<120GB of="" the="" old="">

    (b) clone just the recovery Partitions, and then copy the relevant files on?

    (c) try to make a Vista DVD and somehow get the product key of Windows disable the suspicious HDD (it doesn't seem to be a Windows product key sticker on the laptop, the Toshiba & IBM unlike I had sitting next to me).

    (d) something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.  First thing I will once I have it get up and running is to create the recovery media that he did not!

Option one could be quite bad if the performance of the system was initially quite bad. It depends on what has been installed on the machine. I recommend a clean installation.

Follow my Guide from reinstalling Windows / a Clean Install of Windows Vista:

    http://philipyip.WordPress.com/Dell-community-forums/

This will guide you through the clean install using downloadable Digital River Media (Microsoft online partner). It will tell you where to download the installation files and how to do an aswell USB bootable as the rest of the installation.

For product activation, there are instructions on the use of the activation program to backup and restore (step 2 and 11 b). I saved product activation OEM Dell Dell Windows Vista to 7 reinstallation DVD. If you run a utility finder key on the old installation, you will get a corresponding product key. It is not would be in line with the key on your COA. The guide explains system locked preinstallation and activation more in detail. An alternative to the product activation is also possible; You can use the product key on the laptops COST 25-digit which must be placed under the battery in the Inspiron 1545 to protect it from deletion. This will require automated activation of phone to a Center (11th step) Microsoft product activation so I prefer activation backup and restore program.

I am from the United Kingdom and do not like the fact that the form of relocation brackets is for US customers only. The situation has worsened for Windows 8, Microsoft has not provided downloadable media. Please add your voice to this idea from IdeaStorm Windows 8 media IdeaStorm resettlement so that users in the United Kingdom or elsewhere outside the United States can get media to reinstall via an online application form or download link. Unfortunately IdeaStorm requires connection separate from the rest of the Dell Community.

    Hello

Which firmware version are you running?

In versions prior to 2.0, we had has very little followed HDD and reports. The status UNKNOWN to the driver after installing a new is also due to a bug known in versions 1.4 or previous.

If you see the normal LEDs on the disc, then you know that the re - build is finished, you can also restart the blade and enter the optional ROM of LSI, and check the status of the drivers.
