What is now the current OS on the laptop?
Sometimes, it is recommended that you disable any antivirus for installation.

Once the Fixit has been downloaded and the system is started in the pure State, check that the native Windows Firewall is now on if a 3rd party firewall has been used previously. Now run the Fixit and choose the default mode. Restart once it's done and see if the system can be connected to the update servers. If he can't, then rerun the Fixit and choose aggressive mode. Turn it back on when he finished the race and updates.
I suggest before you stop and install the updates, disconnect from the Internet, first.

I can record is more than all of the new bookmarks after update to Firefox 40.0.2.
I have over 1000 bookmarks and also use xMarks.
I tried to remove 5 bookmarks and save a new bookmark, but it does not work.
When I click on the bookmark star, stars in the bookmarks folder jumps, but does not record, it does not offer the possibility of filing in the subfolder right it me and the star is not awarded (there should be one filled with stars when the Web site is updated bookmark)Thank you for your help. I tried the maintenance of places without success. I have disabled xMarks, but it made no difference, I couldn't save all new bookmarks. I went on the site help above and deleted the "places.sqlite" file and recreates a new file, but it didn't work. I uninstalled Firefox full using IOBit Uninstaller and reinstalled, but I found this program does not delete the profile folder (used to have a checked during uninstall of Firefox, but it seems to have disappeared in the latest versions). The problem persisted.
Finally, I took a screenshot of all my addons. Then, I uninstalled Firefox again, then delete the entire folder profiles (located very usefully described in the second link above https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file )
I reinstalled Firefox, reinstalled xMarks and connected and transferred all my favorites, I reinstalled all my previous addons and ALTO - it now everything works perfectly!Thank you for your help

Windows Installer service is missing from my Vista 32 bit SP2. How can I re - install Windows Installer? None of the 27 sets of update and Installer Cleanup solutions worked, a last resort option could work but it will not install without the Windows Installer Service.
I tried each FixIt option, says the problem is solved, but isn't.
I tried install Windows Installer 4.5, but it came back as not relevant to my system (because there is no previous installer to update).
Tried a number of recommended patches, but they are all geared toward fixing the problems of Windows Update not a lack of Windows Installer.
MicrosoftFixit50202.msi seems to have corrected Windows Update on my laptop but it won't install on Vista pc because there is no Windows Installer.
I ran the installation disc the option 'fix' with the original, it finished but has not replaced Installer and nothing was fixed. How can I put the installer of Windows on my computer? If there are files on the original drive that can be put into drive C what are they?
Someone suggested to uninstall Service Pack 2, and then reinstall, but if I have no installer of Windows that may not work. Others said they reformatted to correct same question, but it did not work. These previous solutions have not helped:
Could not locate the installer of Windows on Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Failed installation error msg error 80070641 Windows updateAfter a month of butting heads with the refusal of Microsoft to actually help except to sell us all a new copy of Vista or Win7 at the normal price I solved the problem myself.
- I made a list of all my software purchased, including required registration keys, etc. and site URL for those who I don't have a disk for.
- Deleted registry back up on my external hard disk, reloading apparently one makes the backed up registry problems breed more.
- Inserted my drive from Dell to factory since 2007 and restarted. Press a key to boot from the CD. Chose "reformat hard drive' first, then when prompted hit"Reinstall"(slightly different wording on your computer).
- After you have reinstalled the factory disc 32-bit Vista, I spent hours 7 next installation of SP1, SP2 and hundreds of updates. Note that several times Windows Update said some updates to date has failed, but finally everything installed correctly by repeating the sequence of installation/reboot to update. There have been a few files that reported to turn off computer completely, I've shown... clicked with indicator shutdown (stop), let it do its thing until it turned off the computer and then the computer restarted manually later. After a total of 8 hours and 14 minutes as my Vista has been fully loaded, updated the installer is still intact, everything works very well and did not cost a penny.
It has been 2 days since the reformatting/reinstall. I reinstalled all my additional software without problem. System Mechanic is back in service without any prejudice to my installation Service. Seems that something is involved with .NET Framework 4 triggered a defense mechanism that caused the installer should be deleted, solved the problem of the .NET Framework from Microsoft, but it can be installed by the installer being removed to protect our computers. The question was not just with Dell computers, it is Dell support is just as incompetent that Microsoft support batch so more Dell owners were here to complain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FYI: my mobile Samsung with Win7, the correction was easier because my installation Service has not been removed:- Uninstalled all the software using .net Framework 4 (only 2)
- Uninstalled all .net Framework 4 bodies found on my list of programs (Client Profile and Essentials)
- A ran my System Mechanic to remove debris aka too much clutter and correct registry problems
- Laptop rebooted then ran Windows Update. All the updates installed with 3 requiring the judgment to install. .NET framework reinstalled with updates.
- Reinstalled my 2 pieces of software that use .NET Framework.
It has been 4 days without any problem at all. So, in my case, it's .NET Framework 4 that created and continued the problem, even if the specific audit FixIt kept saying all .NET Frameworks have been installed correctly.

I have not a cd ROM is there another way to solve this problem. Thank you people
Thank you for taking the time to make this post very informative, excellent. Without the machine test myself that I can't be sure, but based on the age of the computer and what you wrote I suspect for lack of material. It could be something simple like the hard drive or RAM or something more serious like the motherboard. I wouldn't recommend replacing any material on such an old laptop.
As long as the hard disk has been physically, you can recover your data easily. If the hard drive has failed, then you will need to send the drive to a professional drive savers data recovery company. It is quite expensive ($500-3700), but they can usually recover your data. Some insurance policies cover also, professional data recovery in order to check with yours. But let's be optimistic. ;-)
IMPORTANT - If there is no question that the drive is at fault - there are noises, for example - and the data is crucial NOTHING else ON THE DISC. Whenever launch you this player you can destroy data. If this is the case, send the drive to a professional data recovery company.
I'll give you the information on how to test the hard drive to see if it's good physically and how to recover data when you can't in Windows but in doing these things requires a certain level of computer skills. You know yourself the best and that it would be better to take the laptop to a competent local professional. If you do this, do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place. Get recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.
A. test equipment
Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/SeaTools/seatooldreg
http://Seagate.custkb.com/Seagate/CRM/selfservice/search.jsp?docid=201271 (how-to)Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. You will probably need to change the boot order. Your Dell can give you a temporary boot menu if you press F12 as the computer starts. If so, use your arrow key to select the CD drive. Otherwise, press F2 to enter in Setup (BIOS) and change the order of boot on the CD drive first. If the disk fails all physical tests, it must be replaced. Although readers of the laptop cost around $60, you should really consider if it is to put money in such an old machine. You can replace the disk, but the laptop is definitely at the end of its normal life and something else is doomed to failure.
There is information about the RAM test and other materials here:

B. retrieve data detach a healthy disk when you are unable to Windows
1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd.2. you can start the target computer with a Bart PE (if you use XP) or a Linux live CD like Knoppix and retrieve the data in this way. General information about the use of Knoppix for this are:
You will need a computer with two cd records, which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB stick with a capacity to hold your data OR an external USB hard disk formatted FAT32 (not NTFS) *. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the mouse action by default in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a simple click to open instead of double-click traditional MS Windows. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.
* My understanding is that you can now write on NTFS from Linux partition. If you wish to do this, Google for instructions on the use of the NTFS driver.

I check the system configuration required and everything seems OK. The only thing that is not the same is the video card. The video card in the PC, I am installing on is an Intel (R) G33/31 Express Chipset Family 286 MB and not the ATIX700 or Nvidia 6100 128 MB. This will stop the installation of the game or is this something else. I tried to reinstall and also installation on another PC, but it happens with the same message that makes me think this is the game. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The computer on which I am trying to upgrade is vascular under Vista Premium, but it was never upgraded to Service Pack 1. He has a problem with PIECES that is caused by a defective ntdll.dll module and so the updates do not work. Windows Upgrade Advisor tells me I must update Vista SP1. I really don't want to spend the time to solve the problem of Vista. I would like to just do a clean install using the custom install option on the Win7 upgrade support.

First of all, note that you can use an upgrade, you cannot make a
update from XP to Windows 7. You'll have to do a cleaning
installation.Secondly, I do not understand why you bought both the download and the
disks. It would appear that you need one. Can you elaborate? Can I use the same drive to upgrade my computer laptop version of Vista to Windows 7? They will work or do I need to download again?
You need a copy of Windows 7 for each machine. You cannot use the
copy the same for both machines. But if you bought two copies, you can use
one of them for each machine.

I suspect that Norton might be part of the question, and if you were to perform an Internet search on something like:
the failure of the Norton windows update
You will see more than a million results with these words:
Granted there are problems with Windows Update, because for several months but if your updates are downloading and just do not install I would suspect Norton - because in their community of support online, there are so many reports of problems and many, many debates and ideas for things to try that can work sometimes maybe (sometimes they work) , adjustments for Norton, the reinstall from scratch... it is very messy.
In their community, they discuss especially Norton vs. Windows updates and you tell your update Adobe and Trusteer OK but those who use a different method to update that updates Windows, the problem could be JUST with Windows updates.
Unless you are forced to use Norton for a reason, you should consider at least temporarily uninstall, then reboot your system without it and see what things look like. You can always install it again later, no?
You must be sure to use their custom tool to be sure that the uninstall is clean:
https://support.Norton.com/SP/en/us/home/current/solutions/v60392881_EndUserProfile_en_us
Some people dislike not so much of Norton (and the problems that come with it) they believe Norton its own type of computer infection and malware. I would never recommend or install it, but your mileage may vary.
Remember to replace Norton with something like Microsoft Security Essentials, which has a much smaller footprint, and you can download the low low price of free:
https://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=5201
Your system will give you better performance.
As mentioned hit Windows Update for a long time too, but you can probably fix that part.

Recently, I reloaded a fresh load XP on my laptop. I was able to install SP3 and IE8, despite not being able to download them directly from the Windows Update site. I tried several times to install updates, one, five and all at the same time and is unable to install. Original title: Windows Update will not install on the new load XP
Hi all
Thanks for your replies. Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but he got late last night, and I got to reregister the Qmgr.dll and Qmgrprxy.dll BITS files.
I clicked Start, click on run and typed the command following, and then click OK:
Start, run and in the run box, Type regsvr32 qmgr.dll, click OK.
Start, run and in the run box, Type regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll, click OK.I was then able to start the updates. There are 124 updates, the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and the .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 (KB951847) x 86. He downloaded 124 updates, but even once asked me to insert the disc for qmgr.dll when he was installing the 10th update. I find the qmgr.dll file again and pressed OK, but it seems to hang forever and do nothing, then I simply cancelled updates and closed during the night. I have been relieved to have solved the problem of BITS, but is concerned by the hang up on the tenth update installation and he called again for the qmgr.dll file during the installation of updates.
This morning, when I rebooted, it installed some updates at startup, and I restarted again. He then held I first install the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and the .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for versions of .NET 2.0 to 3.5 (KB951847) x 86 to date. N BITS issue for that. It took time, but completed settle. Restart again and now there are only 21 updates to high priority required. My guess is that he downloaded all 124 updates last night, but when I cancelled the installation after hanging on #10, he just started to install it again this morning and did so successfully.
However, when I try to install the 21 remaining, he has not once again, and I find that the BITS service is not in the services again. After I have re-enter the BITS service and restart it, the downloads are working again.
I am now what I may need to reinsert and restart the BITS service whenever I need to download an update.
Ideas, suggestions or comments? I am slowly solve problems and if I persist, I can get this all taken care.
Hi Dan,.
From what you wrote, I understand where you are getting confused. Here are the steps to follow to solve this problem.
Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll
Research should show this file in the following locations:
C:\Windows\System32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsI hope they are all present, follow these steps to register the service.
Click on start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK
(If you do not have the command run in the start menu, hit the Windows key + R, instead)Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll and then restart.
Here are the next steps.
Copy / paste this command in the field to run, and then click OK
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.infWindows will launch a dialog box asking you to insert the Windows installation CD. Ignore this and change the way downstairs to C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
Then restart the PC again and continue with the rest of the troubleshooting steps.
Click on start, run and copy/paste the following and click OK: services.msc
You should now be able to see the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, or just "BITS" displayed in the list of Services.
Double click it to open BITS and then click on the Start button. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.
If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dllRestart then try and start the BITS.
If you get the same error again, copy / paste the following text in the field run and click OK:
Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackupReboot once more and then try and start the BITS.
Let me know how you please.
