Windows 8 cannot be updated

My Windows Update service does not work and I cannot figure out how to run it.  I have run several scans for viruses & rootkits and kidnapped a couple whose names I can't remember (I think one was sirefef?).  Anyway, I scanned the snot out of this computer (tdsskiller, roguekiller, malwarebytes, Eset, emsisoft) and they are not finding anything now, but all that changes the malware made, I'm more able to check updates.  I can't start the service wuauserv and it contains the following description .

Also, I can't update 8.1 or use the windows store (even after reset several times).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

For those who have a similar problem, I solved the problem by performing a 'Refresh', basically reinstalling system files while retaining my personal files (had to reinstall some software).  It took awhile, but once it was full, I could find and install updates but then does not open Windows Store.  I have fixed that by running the Tweaking.com all in a tool repair and limited to only running the "repair Windows 8 App Store (completely Reset App Store)" option.  It worked much better than the option wsreset.exe that I saw recommended before.

You can not uninstall IE8 on Windows 7, but you can disable access to it (for example, to disable IE8). Similarly, you cannot reinstall IE8 in Windows 7, but you can reactivate access to him (i.e., turn on IE8).

If it's a Win7 64-bit computer, you have two versions of IE8: IE8 64 bit (the default) and IE8 32 bit. See this previous discussion: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/babaa5f8-ff06-4ea2-aef6-a9416d65f981

  • WINDOWS 7 CANNOT BE UPDATED AND PRODUCED 80070017 ERROR CODE

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate in November 2009 using the MAPS software. All systems were running as normal. All updates up to 15 Dec (last updated) have been installed successfully. After December 15, 2009, updates cannot run Windows. It gives an error message that Windows 7 update has encountered an error with error code 80070017 unknowned.

My Windows 7 could not be updated since then. Simply, I can't find a solution to this problem. I installed Kaspersky AV 2010 and that updates normally. What would be the next course of action? I have a Pinnacle AV/DV2 card installed during the process of clean install of Win 7 and Win 7 detected this card. I have not yet installed any software for the card.

Could there be a confilct of firewalls between Win 7, Bit Defender and KAV 2010?

OK, I found the problem to this rather peculiar error code. Windows 7 is not activated. After a month, no update is therefore allowed. Simply forgot to activate Windows 7. Microsoft Win 7 should have drawn my attention to the activation state. Its okay to have Bit Defender and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 firewall all current Windows to run simultaneously.

    Thank you PA Bear.

In addition, Microsoft should have maintained the network of Win XP or Vista icon. The network icon could at least tell if there are data streaming in and out of the PC. This new icon of network (called Internet Access) simply not to say another thing that the status of access to the Internet. Is there a way to change this icon to the previous?

  • Why windows 7 cannot install updates?

Whenever I stop, I get a message: installation of the updates. Do not turn off your computer. Eventually the computer "installs" 4 updates and stops, but the next time it is turned on it says prepare to set up windows. 0% complete. This "hangs" for a while, then I get the newspaper account individual users on the screen and everything seems to work OK. When I stopped once again, however, it ascends through the same rigmarole again and also at the start. This has happened for a week. Any ideas how to stop it?

Please try to reset the Windows Update components to download and saving the Fixit on this page - How to reset the Windows Update components?

Once the download is complete, close all open programs and browsers.
Now run MicrosoftFixit50202.msi and choose it is the default mode.
When he has finished to see if running the system can search, detect, download, and install updates.

If no joy, then suggest that you Configure the system to boot .
After the reboot to clean boot state, run the Fixit once more and choose it's aggressive mode.
When it has finished running see if the system can be updated while still in the State of clean boot, including rebooting the system to see if the 'coup' persists.

    * Suggest that you leave an update to do later when the system is running in Windows normal mode. *

NOTE: In the clean boot state will be disabled all firewalls of part 3.
Make sure that the native firewall of Windows 7 is now on.

If the 'coup' does not occur when the system has been updated in the clean boot state after running the Fixit, then cancel the clean boot procedure, and then restart in normal Windows mode.
Now let's see if the rest update one installs correctly.

If the question of the hanging is still underway in the clean boot state, then please copy and paste the last lines of 50 or more WindowsUpdate.log in your response - How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

If the problem only occurs in Windows normal mode, then 3rd party software is the most likely cause.
